Teaching at one of Catherine’s events has been on my creative bucket list for quite sometime and I’m thrilled to get to check this one off my list. In my “Creatively Cute Cards” Class you will create four beautiful cards using the new paper line Modern Mercantile by Lisa Dickinson that she designed for Jenni Bowlin Studio. I LOVE the colors and patterns of this awesome new line. Happy New Year ~ 2013

Thank you all for such an awesome year. Throughout the year, I’ve celebrated with you the birth of our niece Olivia and Ansley turning 18. I introduced you to my love of needle felting, shared in my excitement of attending Ranger University and announced my Antiquated Collection Spring Release. I got to do a super fun Free Webinar with my friend Ronda Palazzari, had a blast at CHA-S and touring downtown. I was asked to do a demo & book signing for the Grand Opening of Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts in Sherman, Texas and got to teach classes at ScrapFest in MN. Caroline and I traveled to Bellagio, Italy where I taught at A Kiss on the Chic’s Creative Retreat. I discovered the art of resin and filled my online store and Etsy store with lots of fun stuff. While at Ranger U, Dyan Reaveley taught us some super fun techniques using her dyslusions ink spray and stamps. After we finished creating our technique tags she showed us her journals (which are AMAZING) and talked about doing what feels right for us and to make it our own. Well, art journaling scares me to death! Not sure why but my goodness it sends shivers down my spine just thinking about doing it. Really it shouldn’t freak me out so much because no one has to see what I create but it does… BUT I’m determined to do it my way with a little or a lot of inspiration from Dyan. Sunday evening, after Ranger U was over I along with Carolyn Ross, Aurea Estelle and Ronda Palazzari got the pleasure of going to Suze Weinberg’s house for dinner. She and Lenny “The Lenster” as Suze calls him were the BEST… so gracious, entertaining and funny. It certainly was a dinner I will never forget. While Lenny was getting dinner prepared Suze gave us a tour of their amazing home. They have art hung and displayed from all over the world. It is the most eclectic collection of art I’ve ever seen. Sprinkled among all their unique art you will find art pieces created by Suze. What Suze does with Bees Wax and UTEE is amazing. Day 3 started out with Dyan Reaveley and her awesome funky, quirky adorable self. Her art journaling has taken the craft industry by STORM and has me quite intrigued. Dyan will be in TEXAS at The Crafty Scrapper Thursday, May 10th & Friday, May 11th and it’s all the buzz. During Dyan’s segment we played with all her Dylusions Ink Sprays, Perfect Pearls and or course her stamp sets. This morning we started our day with Claudine Hellmuth. Claudine is such a sweet and very funny lady. She was quite entertaining and filled our heads with so many techniques and ideas my head was spinning by the time we stopped for lunch which was some awesome square pizza. During Claudine’s class we painted, transferred, glazed and tinted. The hands on experience you get with each instructor here at Ranger is unbelievable. They give you so much information that honestly by the end of the day my brain hurt and once again was swirling with ideas. During Claudine’s class Ronda and I laughed at the difference in our work area. She ALWAYS had a little mess here and there and I ALWAYS had mine cleaned up after each technique. So typical. Ranger University Day 1

There are no words to describe how awesome it is to be so fortunate to attend Ranger U. Today was incredible from start to finish. I’ve played with all the products we used today and learned so much new information. I cannot wait to get home to play and try out all the ideas I have swirling inside my head. Each person had a personal basket of supplies and tools and we had a stack of Tim Holtz and Dylusions stamp sets to share. We got an amazing tour of the warehouse which was super interesting to see how each product was put together from start to finish. Okay let me just start out saying the five years I’ve waited and wanted so badly to visit Tinsel Trading Company was so WORTH it!!! This store did not disappoint me one bit, every single square inch of this place is filled with amazing vintage and gorgeous gift items. The story of how the store came to be is a wonderful story and if you are as interested in knowing as I was chatting away with Marcia Ceppos… you can read all about it HERE. And the Adventure begins…

The fun started before we even took off… the lady that sat next to us was most amused that is for sure. When she got off the plane she told us we were really funny and quite enjoyable… I think I saw her run as she exited the plane little did she know this was only the first half of our flight, we weren’t getting off so she was safe. After we left St. Louis it was straight to Newark, NJ. Our driver Steve was awesome… really funny. Once we got to the Marriott we headed out to get some food. The Traveling Apron

The wonderful journey of my much loved apron has now begun. Saturday, it debuted at The Crafty Scrapper and now will travel to all the places this industry takes me. It’s next stop is New York City (LOL, typing New York City always makes me think of the Pace Picante Sauce commercials) then on to Ranger University in NJ. Carolyn and I leave tomorrow and we are beyond excited! Last year, my travels were haulted rather quickly due to terrible weather… all flights to NJ and surrounding areas were cancelled and I had to go home. Ranger’s Designer Challenge

I was so excited to be asked to participate in their Designer Challenge. They sent each designer a blank paper mache dress form to alter any way we wanted. All they asked was that we stayed true to our style and used any or all three of these items Stickles, Liquid Pearls and/or Crackle Accents.  Here is what I created… There are 18 different Ranger products on this piece. Year in Review ~ Perfect Pearls

In January Ranger asked me to participate in their Designer Challenge. They sent the frame and you had to alter it using the products they sent. Well the product was Perfect Pearls and Perfect Pearl Mist. I was a bit scared as I had not really played with Perfect Pearls before. I’d seen them demoed but that was it. So me being me I just jumped in and started going to town. They are really fun to use. My favorite way is to mix the Perfect Pearl Powders with the coordinating Perfect Pearl Mists. 2011 Designer Challenge for Ranger Ink Altered Canvas Roses accented with Perfect Pearl Powders, Perfect Pearl Mists and Stickles. After I created each flower I then mixed together the PP Powder and Mists and painted the mixture onto the book page...

Always adding more…

So the more I looked at the domino art piece I posted yesterday, the more I felt it needed more… it just lacked that little something extra. So back into the scraproom it went as I had ideas in my head and well, once and idea enters my head I can’t do anything else until I give it a go. So here is what the finished piece looked like, yesterday. And here is what it looks like now. Since I could not apply alcohol ink to the face to darken the complexion, without worrying that the alcohol ink would ruin the stamped image, I decided to stamp the image onto the blank margin of a vintage book page then carefully and  ever so precisely cut out the face. Each time I use a domino it brings me back to how I acquired them… One day as I was taking Ansley someplace after school when she was around 13 or 14 years old, as we were about to leave the neighborhood I noticed dominoes scattered all over the street. Well, I’m sure you can see where this is going… I immediately stopped the car (thankfully, we live in a quiet neighborhood) and had her jump out to pick up as many as she could out of the road. Christmas Baking

One of the things Ansley always looks forward to every holiday season is baking Christmas cookies… wait, let me rephrase this… me baking Christmas cookies. Each year, it is not Christmas to her unless I bake her all her favorites… Chocolate Chewies, Lemon Cookies, Pecan Sandies and Red Velvet cookies with a Hershey Kiss in the middle. The girl keeps me busy during the holidays for sure. But I love it and it makes me happy that she loves them so much. So Ansley and her cookies were the inspiration behind this card. Gentlemen’s Ornament or Gift Tag

I love the detail you get from the Gentlemen’s Puff stamp in the Antiquated Collection ~ Fine and Dandy Stamp Set. Each fine line in the Puff can be seen and it makes me so happy. This project can be used as an ornament for your tree to represent the men in the family or attached to a gift and used as a gift tag. The back is covered with the blank margin from a piece of vintage book page. I used two Maya Road Rectangle Foundation chipboard pieces as the base for this project. One complete rectangle front was covered with vintage sheet music. Then just the outer piece of the second rectangle was stamped using the fir tree stamp from Little Red Wagon by Pink Persimmon. Victorian Christmas

I love decorating the house for Christmas but must admit some years I decorate more than others. The one thing that is pretty consistent during every holiday season is my love for old fashioned ornaments. I have one 4′ tree that sits on top of a table and is decorated with all handmade paper ornaments that reminds me of an old Victorian Christmas. This year, I plan on adding a few additional ornaments to this tree that I feel will accent it beautifully. Although, to balance out the tree I’m going to have to create more of each ornament using different stamps from my Antiquated Collection stamp sets. Wendy did it again… I got this fabulous surprise in my inbox today just after getting a text telling me to check my email. I cannot even describe the feeling of what it feels like seeing my stamps used in projects but I can tell ya it is one awesome feeling. When the Antiquated Collection stamp sets were being put together never did I at the time think of how perfectly they would go with Wendy Vecchi’s Studio 490 Stamp Sets and Art Parts.
