It is Love ~ Scribbly Bird Tag

Feb 3, 2015

Since the birds are pretty happy Spring is coming and have been chirping non-stop outside my window and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner I decided to create this tag using Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Birds and Collage Hearts stamp sets. I think her stamp sets are some of the most unique on the market as all are created from images she has drawn in her art journals. This tag is layered with a Jenni Bowlin Stencil, Ranger Texture Paste, Dina Wakley Media Paints, Platinum Stickles, Book Pages, Washi Tape and of course stamped images using Manila Cardstock, Jet Black Archival Ink and Dina’s...

Ranger Designer Challenge 2015

Jan 16, 2015

It’s always so exciting to be invited to participate in the Ranger Designer Challenge. Basically how it works is Ranger picks a product line to feature, sends the designers a box of the products and you create a project using these products. This year the challenge was a canvas using Dina Wakley’s Media paints, stencils and stamps. Talk about a fun challenge. I also used some Tim Holtz Distress Stickles Dry Glitter Rocky Candy and of course Diamond Stickles. I have fallen in love with Dina’s Media paints. They come in a tube with a flip top and are heavy body acrylics that spread like butter! I already have her new colors Glitz, Sterling and Penny on my list of “Must Have Now” as well as Dina’s super cool new Media Fine Tip Applicator. These...

New Year and New Goals

Jan 6, 2015

I’ve had some ideas for canvas art swirling around my head for quite some time and this year my goal is to act on these ideas. So I’m starting out the year painting this canvas, “She is the keeper of their dreams”. As you can see this is still a work in progress. Painting is teaching me some patience as every little detail takes time. I plan to eventually have prints available of the completed piece as well as note cards. But I’m not sure when they will be available as I first need to finish the painting. One thing I did figure out is I cannot paint in vintage tones I have to paint in bright colors which I find rather odd. I’m also still de-stashing my studio. If you would like some...

Countdown to Christmas Calendar

Nov 24, 2014

This holiday season I’m all about getting projects done in a day. This year, I can’t afford the take a week to complete a project, you all know I’m very capable of creating a mole hill kinda project into a mountain kinda project. So I thought and thought of how I could create a “Countdown to Christmas Calendar” without it taking me days to complete. I love counting down to Christmas just as much as a kid and thought I would share with you what and how I made mine. This project should take 3  hours tops from start to finish including drying time for the paints. Products Used: Maya Road Countdown Shadowbox, Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber Juniper & Metallic Gold, Coffee Archival Ink, Glue Stick, My Mind’s Eye ~ Joyous 6” x 6”...

Altered Art Journal ATC 1

Aug 25, 2014

I was so super happy when I discovered (which is what happens when you clean areas of your studio, you discover things) I had a set of 6″ x 8″ pocket pages that fit inside my art journal. Since these pocket pages are a variety pack I have several different sized pockets that are perfect to add different sized art pieces into my journal. Yes, I’m happy. So once I discovered I had more options for my art journal I decided to create a small ATC type piece to put into one of the pocket pages. This card measures 2.75″ x 4″ so it is a bit off in measurements for a traditional ATC which is 2.5″ x 3.5″.  The base of the card is from a portion of the left over postcard I had from my first...

Faux Soldered Scallop Border Accent

Feb 18, 2014

Need a unique border for your canvas art? All you need are Ranger Memory Foil Tape ~ Aluminum, Scallop Scissors and a Stylus to create the decorative edge shown in this photo. Here’s how you do it, it’s super easy. First, measure the top edges of the canvas, then cut a strip of foil tape to fit each edge. Next, trim the right edge of each foil tape strip using scallop scissors. Now, attach each strip to the top inside edge of the canvas as shown in the photo. Using a stylus press the larger tip of the stylus in the middle of each scallop to create an indented dot. That’s it. The step by step instructions showing how I created the silhouette and tips on creating this canvas can be found in “Delight In...

My Life In A Dinghy ~ Hels Sheridan

Sep 25, 2013

“My Life In A Dinghy” featured artist, Hels Sheridan. Hels has been crafting since 2003, although she always did have a love of covering everything in glitter and glue when she was a kid. Hels started out making her own cards which then led to a brief stopover in scrapbooking and then she found her true crafty love, rubber stamping. Hels has a bit of a thing for altered art and mixed media and is happiest when covered in ink and paint. What started out as a hobby to release the stresses of her career as a Train Driver has become her job now after she had to leave driving trains due to ill health. She is a full time craft tutor and demonstrator and a Certified Ranger Educator. Hels is also on the design team...

CHA‑S 2013 ~ Dress Form Card

Aug 20, 2013

This is a card I created for Ranger using the new Stickles they debuted at CHA‑S. Oh my goodness are you going to LOVE the new colors. They are awesome and I have a few new favorites to add to my collection/addiction, Mercury Glass, Champagne and Pink Taffeta are my favorites from CHA‑S.   In this close up you can really see how pretty the Pink Taffeta Stickles looks accenting the design on the wings. It is the most beautiful shade of vintage pink. The dress form and bow are accented using Champagne Stickles. This new color looks just like antiqued gold. It’s gorgeous. Tip: To make the Stickles pop even more on the edge of the dress I first inked the edges using Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Then I applied the Stickles.  I used...

Keeper of Secrets & Dreams

Jul 1, 2013

The base for this altered box is Eileen Hull’s Box, Candy Drawer die. I tell ya I have a serious LOVE for Eileen’s dies and can pretty much pick her’s out without even looking at the name of the designer. After I cut the box out of mat board and assembled it I applied a thin layer of plaster all over the inner and outer areas of the drawer as well as the outer top, bottom and sides of the box. I really like the stability plaster gives to this box and when dry it resembles that of a ceramic box. Once completely dry I applied images around the box and sealed them in place with melted white bees wax pellets. I accented this Keeper of Secrets & Dreams box with lots of different...

Bees Wax Tools & Tips

Jun 21, 2013

Bees Wax is a medium I really enjoy creating with and if you are thinking about giving it a try I thought I would share some tips. First, if you are new to this medium there really is no need to go out and purchase expensive encaustic supplies right off, if you find out you love working with wax then you can begin adding high end encaustic wax and tools. But for what I do the tools I’m going to tell you about work perfectly. Insert here… husband clapping hands and doing a little happy dance. The heat tools I use are a Non-Stick Craft Sheet (always work on a Non-Stick Craft Sheet), Heat It Craft Tool, Melting Pot, Clover Quilting Iron and a Walnut Hallow Wood Burning Set. As far as wax, I...

This giveaway is now CLOSED and the winner has been announced HERE. Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I was thrilled when Ranger asked me to participate in their Melt Art Mania event. All they asked was that I create a project using their melting pot and any other Melt Art products. If this is the first you’ve heard about their Melt Art Mania event go check out their blog. Starting May 15th, Ranger has featured some of the most amazing projects and tutorials created by artists from all over using products from their Melt Art line. Petaloo Color Me Crazy & Ranger Ink ~ Mini Wreath

May 16, 2013

When I saw the Petaloo Color Me Crazy Chipboard Fairies (1581–004) I knew I had to make a little something for my nieces to hang in their room. So I decided on a door hanger. I tore two long strips of natural muslin and wrapped them around a 3″ Styrofoam wreath until the entire wreath was covered. I then attached the end of the muslin to the back of the wreath using fabric adhesive. Next, I wanted to add just a little wording here and there on the muslin so I inked my Perfumery stamp with Archival Ink ~ Coffee and randomly stamped the words here and there around the wreath. I didn’t use an acrylic block to stamp the words. I just held the stamp with two fingers and rolled the stamp onto the muslin....

All this week on the Petaloo Blog, Petaloo is showcasing guest designers using their Color Me Crazy Line that have been altered with Ranger Ink products. My guest designer post isn’t until Friday so I thought I would show you a few of the other projects I created just to peek your interest until then. You can see a gorgeous card Tammy Tutterow created and has posted on their blog now. This mini canvas was a snap to create and altering the Petaloo Color Me Crazy Petites, Butterflies, Fancy Frames and Keys are easy breezy lemon squeezy when using any of the products Ranger Ink has to offer. To create this mini canvas I first covered the mini canvas using a Paris themed napkin. If you have never used designer napkins as a base for a...
