CHA-Summer 2012 Day 3

Jul 22, 2012

Here is another of my favorite Maya Road summer release products… FABRIC TAPE! Their new Fabric Tape comes in Blossom Pink, Barn Red, Sun Yellow, Leaf Green, Ocean Blue, Coal Black, Country Rose and Floral Garden. The tag the samples are attached to is one of the new Maya Road Wood Shipping Tags. They come in 4 styles & 8 pieces that range from 2″ to 3″. One of the projects in the Maya Road booth I could not keep my eyes off of was this canvas created by Dina Wakley. She used Maya Mist mixed with gesso, Natural Wood Buttons and Vintage Wood Birds.  I LOVE Dina’s work. She is such a sweet, talented and very goofy kinda gal. She makes me laugh and I’m so glad I get to see her in...

CHA-Summer 2012 Day 2

Jul 18, 2012

Today, I was in the Maya Road booth all day doing make-n-takes. Let me tell you my feet and knees hurt so bad tonight I can hardly stand it. But before heading to bed I wanted to show you some of my favorite Maya Road products which just so happen to be pretty popular with store owners too. But before I show you these photos let me first show you this one… this is Terra Cameron with Simon Says Stamp. You can purchase my Antiquated Collection stamp sets from Simon Says Stamp HERE. If you ever have a chance to chat with Terra and/or Heidi you will love every second. They are the sweetest. Okay now on to the photos of my favorite new Maya Road products. You will be seeing these a lot...

Jul 17, 2012

Today was a total blast of a day. It was a busy one with make-n-takes, teaching a meeting and more make-n-takes but it was a fun one. Here is a run down of day one… 10:00 – 11:00 ~ start make-n-takes in the Maya Road booth. Gail Holley an instructor for The Scrapbook Page and More was my first make-n-take attendee AND knew the password *** I love Maya Road Pearl Bead Chain *** so she won a signed copy of “Delight In The Seasons”. 11:00 ~ take workshop kits and supplies to my classroom then head back to the booth to do a few more make-n-takes. 11:45 – 12:50 ~ back to the classroom to set up for my workshop “Welcome Home with Maya Road.” 1:00 ~ 3:00 ~ Teach my “Welcome Home...

What a DAY!

Jul 16, 2012

Today, certainly did NOT start out as a normal second day of set up in the Maya Road booth. Our booth did NOT arrive until 11:30 this morning… YES, 11:30 and the first day of CHA is TOMORROW!!!  I have never had such a pit in the bottom of my stomach as I had today. I cannot even imagine how Caroline and David felt. There is so much work to be done getting this booth ready for a show it will make your head spin and eyes glaze over. We stopped for 30 min. to eat lunch and thankfully, Jimmy John’s delivers. We inhaled our food and it was right back to work unloading crates filled with flooring, the display, product and lots of design team boxes… One good thing is we do have...

I Love Downtown Chicago

Jul 15, 2012

I think Chicago is one of my favorite cities to visit and I never tire of walking downtown. The architecture, landmarks and window shopping is amazing. Getting to spend the day with Caroline, David, Laura, Ronda, Emily and Jessica made it even better. So what started out not being such a great day ended up being a blast. I love riding the train into downtown and am intrigued with how close businesses and homes are to the train. The train is literally in their backyards. I’m sure it has to be super loud but I guess they get used to it. The Civic Opera House was really pretty and walking over the river is a guaranteed beautiful view and for some reason I really like seeing all the metal beams underneath the train. I think...

NEW Maya Road Pearl Bead Chain

Jul 14, 2012

Be still my HEART…. I am so excited about this new Maya Road product. Their new Pearl Bead Chain is AMAZING. I love using rosary type beads in projects and now having TWO different sizes to pick from makes me giddy! You can purchase the Pearl Bead Chain by the yard and in two different sizes… 6mm and 8mm. You are so going to want this, I promise. I made this cuff using pieces of the vintage quilt my great great aunts made long ago and accented it using Maya Road Pearl Chain, Rhinestone Trim, pearls, trims and vintage shell buttons. I plan on wearing this at CHA. Here is the Pearl Bead Chain used as a necklace I created to wear at CHA. This Pearl Bead Chain is the perfect weight and it’s super...

Maya Road Linen Album

Jul 12, 2012

So happy to finally be able to share the Maya Road Catalog for CHA-Summer. They have some awesome products coming out this release and one of my favorite’s is their new 4″ Binder Linen Album that has 3 linen pages and 3 chipboard pages. I finished my mini album using this album just in the knick of time too… I leave bright and early… no, wait it wont even be bright when I head to the airport Saturday morning, just early… ugh. I’m so not a morning person… I just hope while I’m passed out in my seat on the plane I don’t drool. Okay enough of my traveling and on to my mini album… I had fun altering this album with lots of amazing new product. Notice the key in the center, it’s...

Welcome Home with Maya Road

Jul 11, 2012

Here is a photo of the “Welcome Home with Maya Road“ workshop (#W0701) I’ll be teaching for Maya Road at CHA. I’m so looking forward to teaching this sold out class. I also want to give a great big Texas THANK YOU to my awesome SPONSORS… Clearsnap, Fiskars, Jenni Bowlin Studio and Ranger. They graciously donated product for me to alter the NEW Maya Road House Shadow Box. Each class attendee will have a kit filled with awesome Maya Road products and get to create using product by these top manufacturers. And of course a class always needs a give away or two, or three etc., so I’ll be giving away copies of my new book “Delight In The Seasons” to several lucky winners during the workshop....

Maya Road Mid-Release Lisa Uppercase

May 17, 2012

I cannot possibly explain to you all just how much I LOVE the new Maya Road Lisa Uppercase ~ Chipboard Alphabet. And not because they are named after ME but because they truly are my favorite font style and size chipboard alphas Maya Road makes. When Maya Road discontinued their Philadelphia Uppercase alphas (my first true love) I nearly had heart failure and let Caroline know I was not happy with that decision and begged PLEASE NO NOT THESE but there I sat anyway with no more Philadelphia alphas. I begged some more, pleaded some more but they were gone, gone, gone!  BUT  NOW I have a new love and I really do love these more than the first so all is well, this new set is the perfect size and I’m super happy and Caroline...

Maya Road Mid-Release – Hexagons

May 15, 2012

Yes, I’m in love with the new Maya Road Hexagons. They come in three sizes, basically small, medium and large and some are die cut which allows you to create a nice frame on top of another as I did with the hexagon that has the vintage sheet music inside. This canvas is covered with circles punched from old ledger paper and sheet music and a few doilies here and there. Each item is attached with natural beeswax, then sealed entirely with beeswax. Each hexagon is coated with beeswax and accented with a vintage button, bingo butterfly motif and altered key. The key is inked with Adirondack Pigment Snow Cap, covered with Glossy Accents and accented with a 5mm cream colored pearl. The crocheted doily is one my mom made… I have her creating...

Feb 13, 2012

You need to check out the latest Maya Road Designer’s Challenge Inspiration Book. Click HERE and you will see some really super cute tags that several of the Maya Road design team members created, after Caroline gave us a 7 product challenge. And I have to show you this super cute necklace Shelley Haganman sent me for my birthday. She makes the cutest flair buttons. The flair buttons for the necklace are magnetic so I can put which ever button I feel like wearing at the moment. And I must say I do think it is all about keeping calm and glittering on. I find the glitter part easier than the calm part though… gotta be honest. If you’re not familiar with Shelley’s etsy store “A Flair for Buttons” you really need to take...

Make n Take Giveaway

Feb 7, 2012

The last day of CHA-W, I showed lots of people how to create this super cute flower pin. You use about 12″ of Maya Road Satin Pleat Trim, 12″ of Maya Road Pleated Tulle and a Maya Road Antique Jewel Button for the center. To create the flower all you do is attach the pleated tulle on top of the satin pleat using Fabri-Tac adhesive at the sewn edge of each piece of trim. Then starting at one end  loosely begin rolling the two trims until you get to the opposite end. Next, apply Fabri-Tac to a punched patterned paper circle and attach the bottom end (sewn edging) of the rolled trims to the punched circle, let the trims spread out a bit to resemble a rose. Then using a hot glue gun, attach...

Flower Wall

Feb 6, 2012

Since I passed out each night before getting a blog post completed during CHA, I thought it would still be fun to tell you about the show and share photos. While we were getting the booth ready for day one, Emily Pitts was given the task of assembling a wall of flowers on the end of one of the display walls. She worked and worked and worked attaching small pieces of Velcro to the back of zipper flowers, ribbon blossoms and other small handmade flowers created from lots of Maya Road trims. This floral arrangement was very popular and photographed many times during the show. Here is Emily hard at work arranging each handmade flower along the wall. Maya Road Wood Mini Butterflies were placed among the flowers to look as though they were fluttering...

The Oh So Non-Glamorous Side of CHA

Feb 5, 2012

I thought I would share with you some of the photos Caroline, David and I took while we were all setting up the Maya Road booth for CHA-W. It’s amazing how it takes 2 days to set up and only 5 hours and 20 minutes to break it all down, re-pack panels, shelves, signs and product as well as repack all the design team projects and get everything back in the crates ready to ship back to the warehouse. It’s crazy!!!  First you start with a few handfuls of these and a nice cold Diet Coke Then we start putting down the flooring (Ronda, Laura & Emily)  After the flooring is down we start building the walls (Ronda, Laura & David)  While putting up the walls we dodge forklifts and trees (not kidding the...

Maya Road DT Member Canvases

Feb 4, 2012

I always find it fun to see what members of the Maya Road Design Team create when given the same challenge. Each CHA-W Caroline gives the DT members a blank canvas and tells us to alter it as we want, she only requires that we stay true to our style and include any Maya Road products we want… it is such a fun challenge. During CHA I took photos of each  DT member’s canvas so I could share… I hope you’re ready for some amazing inspiration because this post is filled with LOTS! Andrea Wiebe Angella Peardon  Anne Jo Lexander also known as Ania Caroline Lau Dina Wakley Emily Pitts Julia Stainton Karen Grunberg Linda Albrecht Lisa Pace that’s Me Ronda Palazzari Shelley Haganman  I wasn’t kidding when I said loads of inspiration. Coming out of my CHA fog

Feb 3, 2012

I have to say, this has been the most exhausting CHA I’ve ever attended. I had the best of intentions to post each evening I got back to my room about the days happening but each night, I was in bed asleep 30 minutes after I returned to my room. It was go, go, go, go every second of every day. And I have the aching feet to prove it. My goodness my feet have never hurt so much. But my book signings and demo were great, the Maya Road make-n-take table was super busy and super popular, people I chatted with about my stamp sets liked seeing the Antiquated Collection Stamp line up close and in person and I just might have a really cool venture to share in the months to come…...

Day 1 of Set Up

Jan 28, 2012

Today, we will have the Maya Road booth completed and all ready for Opening Day. With all the team work that was going on the booth is now 80% complete. I think this is a record for day one of set up. It all went far too smoothly if you ask me… kinda makes me nervous. We started unpacking some of the design team projects and oh my goodness are you all going to LOVE their projects. I do believe the design team out did themselves this show. AMAZING stuff was created for the show. I thought I would share some behind the scene (hope you don’t mind me using that saying Mario) type photos so you can kinda see what it is like preparing for the show. Set up days are not glamorous one teeny...
