It is Love ~ Scribbly Bird Tag

Feb 3, 2015

Since the birds are pretty happy Spring is coming and have been chirping non-stop outside my window and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner I decided to create this tag using Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Birds and Collage Hearts stamp sets. I think her stamp sets are some of the most unique on the market as all are created from images she has drawn in her art journals. This tag is layered with a Jenni Bowlin Stencil, Ranger Texture Paste, Dina Wakley Media Paints, Platinum Stickles, Book Pages, Washi Tape and of course stamped images using Manila Cardstock, Jet Black Archival Ink and Dina’s...

Keeper of Secrets & Dreams

Jul 1, 2013

The base for this altered box is Eileen Hull’s Box, Candy Drawer die. I tell ya I have a serious LOVE for Eileen’s dies and can pretty much pick her’s out without even looking at the name of the designer. After I cut the box out of mat board and assembled it I applied a thin layer of plaster all over the inner and outer areas of the drawer as well as the outer top, bottom and sides of the box. I really like the stability plaster gives to this box and when dry it resembles that of a ceramic box. Once completely dry I applied images around the box and sealed them in place with melted white bees wax pellets. I accented this Keeper of Secrets & Dreams box with lots of different...

Jenni Bowlin Studio ~ Thinking of U Card

Apr 15, 2013

Here is card 3 of 4. I always find it fun to surprise someone with a “Thinking of U” card. It’s such a simple to way to brighten someone’s day. And here’s a little tip for you… You can alter the Maya Road Afternoon Tea flower using Maya Mists, Inks and Distress Stains. This way you can color coordinate the flower with any project you are creating. Super fun and super easy. The Maya Road Wooden Buttons are another fun embellishment to alter. I left mine raw for this card but you can ink, mist, paint, glitter and don’t forget about adding transfer decals on them… And this is the list of all the products I used to create this card. Jenni Bowlin Studio Modern Mercantile ~ Paraphernalia, Miscellany & Etcetera,   one Maya Road Afternoon Tea...

Jenni Bowlin Studio ~ Thank U Card

Apr 12, 2013

Here is Card 2 of 4 and I must say, I think this card set is one of my favorite sets I’ve ever created. I just love the patterned papers and embellishments on each card. I’m telling you Lisa Dickinson’s Modern Mercantile line she designed for Jenni Bowlin Studio is so super inspiring. I love to create mini collages as the focal point on all my cards. A collage is not just layering and attaching paper and ephemera to a canvas it can be items of any kind grouped together, which is what I had loads of fun doing with this card. The wooden butterfly, heart pins, milk cap and resin flower make an adorable collage and the “thank u” sentiment works great to balance the collage perfectly. Creating 3D collages are wonderful ways to use...

Jenni Bowlin Studio ~ Congrats Card

Apr 11, 2013

It’s no secret I love Jenni Bowlin Studio products. I’ve been so lucky to have her sponsor all three of my books and have used her products since she started manufacturing items. When I saw the new line Modern Mercantile designed by Lisa Dickinson at CHA‑W I was in love. Modern Mercantile works perfectly with all of Jenni’s amazing embellishments. Today’s card is 1 of 4 that I’ll be sharing with you over the next several days. All the completed cards measure 4″ x 5.5″. EnviroTex Resin Charm Trio

Feb 5, 2013

I just realized I forgot to show you the Charm Trio I created for my oldest niece Amanda. If you are still on the fence about trying resin stop thinking about it and DO IT NOW! It is so much fun and EnviroTex Resin is so easy to use. So here is pretty much what I did for each charm. Starting from Top to Bottom. Charm One has a layer of Martha Stewart Brownstone glitter and a Making Memories Glitter Alpha Sticker. Charm Two has a punched circle of sheet music that is sealed using Nunn Design Glue. After about three applications of glue which was dried completely in between applications I attached a Nunn Design Transfer Decal on top of the sheet music as instructed on the packaging. I love that the decals...

You will accent each card with Maya Road, Doodlebug and Jenni Bowlin embellishments and of course use awesome Ranger products like Distress Ink and Diamond Stickles to give your cards that added awesomeness. What a DAY!

Jul 16, 2012

Today, certainly did NOT start out as a normal second day of set up in the Maya Road booth. Our booth did NOT arrive until 11:30 this morning… YES, 11:30 and the first day of CHA is TOMORROW!!!  I have never had such a pit in the bottom of my stomach as I had today. I cannot even imagine how Caroline and David felt. There is so much work to be done getting this booth ready for a show it will make your head spin and eyes glaze over. We stopped for 30 min. to eat lunch and thankfully, Jimmy John’s delivers. We inhaled our food and it was right back to work unloading crates filled with flooring, the display, product and lots of design team boxes… One good thing is we do have...

Welcome Home with Maya Road

Jul 11, 2012

Here is a photo of the “Welcome Home with Maya Road” workshop (#W0701) I’ll be teaching for Maya Road at CHA. I’m so looking forward to teaching this sold out class. I also want to give a great big Texas THANK YOU to my awesome SPONSORS… Clearsnap, Fiskars, Jenni Bowlin Studio and Ranger. They graciously donated product for me to alter the NEW Maya Road House Shadow Box. Each class attendee will have a kit filled with awesome Maya Road products and get to create using product by these top manufacturers. Halloween 2011 Completed Album

Nov 8, 2011

Here is the completed Halloween mini album. I love how it turned out. Jenni Bowlin and Maya Road were made to go together. I accented the stems of the pumpkins using JBS Decorative Brads, MR Leaf Pins and Trim. It’s now ready to fill with cute Halloween photos of little trick ‑or-treaters and some journaling about their fun candy filled evening. Front Cover I added brown and white baker’s twine to the top of the smaller pumpkins and accented the edges of the JBS Alterable Letters — Micro Dots using Chicken Feed and brown ink. And of course I accented the top of each letter using Diamond Stickles. The 2011 are JBS Vintage Black Stickers. Pages 1 and 2 Pages 3 and 4 The numbers 3 and 4 on page three are from the JBS...

Altering the House

Nov 5, 2011

I feel like I’m burning the candle at both ends, right now. I’ve been working on special projects, writing instructions for three classes that I will be teaching, next weekend at The Crafty Scrapper, gathering supplies to kit for the classes and trying to finish up this Halloween Mini Album. So tonight I finished altering the house and thought I would share it now instead of waiting until Monday. I covered the majority of the chipboard house using this Halloween 2011 patterned paper by JBS Mercantile. The small sections are perfect to alter the house and pumpkin. The owl and stars on the roof are from this patterned paper. After I covered the house with patterned paper I sanded and inked the edges using a brown ink. Then I attached the patterned paper of...

Altering the Leaves

Nov 3, 2011

As you can see the album is starting to come together, but please note I do not have anything attached to the cover just yet. Everything is just sitting in place. I like seeing the stems of the leaves and pumpkins sticking out. The album still lacks all the details that makes it special but you can begin to see how the completed mini album is going to look. I’m still not sure how I want to alter the banner.. paint, ink, paper? I’ll figure it out later. Today we are altering the leaves of the coaster mini album. I find it easiest when altering something like the shape of leaves is to apply the adhesive to the chipboard piece, attach the patterned paper and then cut the piece out using a craft knife...

Altering the Pumpkins

Nov 2, 2011

Please forgive me for the last few days. I have been working on some projects that I cannot wait to share. I will be doing an online chat with A Cherry On Top, November 19th (once we have the time set I will let you know) during this chat I will finally get to reveal my secret… needless to say, I am counting down the days. So, if you want to know make sure you are all signed up at ATOC to participate in the chat. Okay, so now to altering the chipboard pumpkins with Jenni Bowlin’s awesome Halloween 2011 line. To create the pumpkin template place a piece of computer paper on top and trace over the recessed area with a stylus and cut out. For the stem portion of the pumpkin I traced...

Getting Started

Oct 27, 2011

When creating a mini album I like to cover the base pages first and build from there. Jenni Bowlin’s Halloween line reminds me of the vintage Halloween items I come across now and then when thrifting and walking around flea markets. The images on the patterned papers are awesome. Tools and Supplies Used: Glue Stick, Craft Knife, Craft Mat, Sanding Block, Glossy Accents, Maya Road 1″ Ink Pads True Black, Metallic Gold, Maya Road Glitter Licorice Black, Regal Gold, Diamond Stickles Album Cover Pages 1 and 2 Pages 3 and 4 Pages 5 and 6 Pages 7 and 8 Back Cover Once all the pages are covered I then alter the mini chipboard embellishments. I inked and glittered a cat, two trees and two maple leaves. Then I altered two mini chipboard pumpkins using...

The Creative Process

Oct 26, 2011

I’m often asked how I come up with my ideas and how I create… so today’s post will give you a little insight into my creative madness. LOL, I really do torture myself and I’m not kidding. First, I get an idea which usually comes to me at night when in bed. My brain starts to unwind because I’m always wound up like an 8 day clock. It is then that all the ideas start creeping in my head and I take notes. The other night a mini album idea popped into my head for Halloween. I have some of the new super awesome JBS Halloween line and embellishments that I have really been wanting to use but could not come up with an idea that I really liked. I was thinking about all...

Last day of Show and Tell

Oct 20, 2011

This “Happy Birthday” tag can be found in the Summer chapter on page 64 of Delight In The Seasons. The technique featured is on page 65. But as you know this part still remains a secret. And just so you know, having to keep all of this a secret is killing me. I cannot wait for this book to hit the shelves. I used all kinds of fun products and tools when creating this tag.… Punches and Decorative Scissors, Ink and Paint, Stickles and Glitter, Stamping and Distressing and added texture using Seam Binding and Burlap. Machine stitching with a basic straight stitch using cream thread all around the patterned paper pieces and inner edge of the tag adds the perfect finishing touch. I hope this weeks Show and Tell has given you just...

Joyful Gift Tag

Oct 19, 2011

This tag can be found on page 44 in the Spring chapter of Delight In The Seasons. The adorable chicks are from Crafty Secrets Vintage Heartwarming. I’ve always been a huge fan of their vintage images. They have a wide selection that are perfect for vintage inspired projects. The altered Maya Road Scallop Frames accent the chicks perfectly. And I was thrilled when I discovered that Jenni Bowlin’s Paint Dabbers in Chewing Gum and Soap Powder matched the Little Yellow Bicycle patterned papers so perfectly. When everything came together for this project I ended up with an adorable tag to place on a gift bag or inside a frame to use as a Spring themed piece of art. And many thanks go to the following book sponsors… Little Yellow Bicycle, Jenni Bowlin, Maya Road, Ranger, Crafty...

The Ferry Ride

Aug 1, 2011

When we went to Galveston a few weeks ago I took a few photos of Ansley and her boyfriend Matt while waiting for and riding the ferry over to Galveston. So when I saw the colors and patterns in this months Cocoa Daisy kit “ ‘Siren’s Call” I was thrilled, as they matched the photos perfectly. The banner is created with the adorable stamp set included in this months kit. I used the ink from the “Mist and Ink” Add On kit to create the banner and the red and white twine came from the “Calypso” Add On Kit. And I was so happy to be asked to be this months Guest Designer for Vintage Street Market. If you are not familiar with this company you need to check them out.
