Nov 24, 2014

This holiday season I’m all about getting projects done in a day. This year, I can’t afford the take a week to complete a project, you all know I’m very capable of creating a mole hill kinda project into a mountain kinda project. So I thought and thought of how I could create a “Countdown to Christmas Calendar” without it taking me days to complete. I love counting down to Christmas just as much as a kid and thought I would share with you what and how I made mine. Rocky Mountain Memories ~ Artist Flood Relief

Jun 20, 2014

Last September Colorado was really hit hard with unexpected flash floods.  Dams broke, roads were washed out, rivers took control, and lives were lost.  It’s just so devastating.  Complete towns were evacuated, lives lost, people unaccounted for, homes & businesses demolished. Rocky Mountain Memories is hosting a silent auction to help Crossroads Ministries. This non-profit organization has provided a total of 725 flood relief assists but their funds are depleting.  Any assistance would be appreciated. Up for auction are many great pieces from various artists. I’ve donated autographed copies of  all three of my books Delight In The Details, Delight In The Seasons and Delight In The Art of Collage, plus several other items.   This shabby chic birdhouse was shared on my blog in July of last year. If you want to read how I created it...

Kids Week Day 1

Jul 9, 2013

Day one has been a whirlwind of fun. As soon as Madelyn’s feet hit the floor she was ready to go. Thankfully, I planned ahead the night before and had chipboard pieces, Stickles and Liquid Pearls for her to use while I was trying to get my first cup of coffee in me. This was a lifesaver, she created and I woke up. Then she decided she would like to make a video of how she alters her chipboard pieces using Stickles and Liquid Pearls. I was really impressed with how well she did since we didn’t talk about what she would say or anything. I basically just got my camera and started filming her very first unedited on-the-fly 10 min. instructional video. Not bad for a first time video. I love her. While...

Shabby Chic Birdhouse

Jul 5, 2013

The base of this altered birdhouse is created using Eileen Hull’s 3D Birdhouse die by Sizzix. After I assembled the birdhouse I covered it  with plaster. Once the plaster was dry I painted it with acrylic paint and accented the stenciled areas with ColorBox Chestnut Roan ink. I’m not kidding when I say I LOVE plaster and want to cover everything in it. It’s all I think about. The texture you can create with this medium is so amazing. The sides and top areas of the front and back of the birdhouse are accented with images from decorative napkins. The look is amazing and it’s so simple to do. Just cut out the image from your napkin, peel the white layers of the napkin off until all you have is the image layer, using your...

Stickles

Jun 5, 2013

Most of you should know by now that I have a serious LOVE for Stickles, especially Diamond and Platinum! When teaching these two are a given for items needed in class. I use Stickles on pretty much everything I create and I have a saying about them too, “Stickles is to Crafters what Botox is to Plastic Surgeons. You can always use a little somewhere”. If you are a crafter that does not like loose glitter Stickles is a product for you. It’s easy to use and there is zero mess. So today, I’m going to show you how I use a little or a lot on my projects. Diamond Stickles is a great way to give a simple flower a little pop. All you need to do is apply a small amount onto...

Thrift Store Finds ~ Storage & Photo Props

Apr 26, 2013

It’s no secret how much I love thrift store finds and the thrill of the hunt, I wish I could bottle up that feeling.  When scouring the shelves for items to use as storage and photo props I usually have no clue what I’m looking but when I find something I like I grab it. I don’t think I will ever have enough salt & pepper shakers on hand. They are perfect for storing glass glitter or filling with vintage buttons. I have an idea in my head right now using them as a base for a project that I cannot wait to start working on. I hope it comes out as well as I have it pictured in my head. I’ll let you know when it’s finished. The refrigerator box is perfect for...

All Occasion Card

This all occasion card is one I created for Maya Road to display while their product kits are being sold on HSN, tomorrow. I thought I would share a few projects using some of the products in each kit to give you a little inspiration. Caroline created I think 20 projects for the show. Talk about a crazy fast crafter. The Fabric Tape Flower Mini Canvas, Fabric Tape Mini Wreath (sharing with you tomorrow) and the Smile Mini Canvas that I shared with you last week are all projects using products from these kits. Since I’m sure you are not going to want to miss out I posted Maya Road’s time slots below, which as I understand can change at any given second so don’t hold me to it but these should be close to accurate. Beth...

Smile Mini Canvas

Apr 19, 2013

Oh goodness I gotta share some awesome tips with you today. I painted the sides of this mini canvas using Adirondack Shell Pink, once dry I found the pink was just a tad bit too pink. So I lightly applied ColorBox Creamy Brown Chalk Ink over the paint and it created the most BEAUTIFUL shade of  pink which just so happened to match the pink in the Pink Paislee Cottage Farms background paper perfectly. The next tip is if you apply ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink in Rose Coral on top of the Maya Road Mixed Blossom Mini Chipboard pieces then lightly apply Maya Road Pure White Pigment on top you create another gorgeous shade of pink that works BEAUTIFULLY with the Pink Paislee Cottage Farms patterned paper line. I just love discovering and sharing...

Imperfect is Perfect to me.…

Mar 29, 2013

When I found this beat up old utility cart at Frisco Mercantile I could not get my hands on it fast enough. I had been walking up and down each and every aisle looking for something to put in this very spot. I knew I needed it to be a certain width and height, wanted it to be an open piece so it would not close off the room too much, look nice and it had to be large enough to hold all the items seen. Well when I stumbled onto this cart and saw that the price was $18.00 it was sold. Yes it is scratched, yes it leans a bit to one side (but it’s still level) and yes it squeaks when the wheels roll but I think it’s imperfections are what makes it...

Stamp Embossed Clay Charms

Mar 1, 2013

Here is a really cool tip… when creating polymer clay charms use chipboard embellishments for templates. This is exactly what I did when creating these adorable dress charms for my nieces. I used the chipboard dress from the Maya Road Laundry Day mini chipboard set to create these two charms. All I did was roll out my polymer clay to the thickness I wanted, placed the mini chipboard dress on top of the clay then using a craft knife carefully cut around the chipboard dress. How simple is that! And here are a few other cool tips… to get the butterfly image onto the dresses I pressed the Maya Road Ornate Butterflies stamp set into the polymer clay. Stamps are a great way to emboss polymer clay. To add words to each dress I used...

Maya Road Sneak Peek ~ Wood Bird Cages

Jan 8, 2013

In between book projects, I squeezed in a little creative time to make some small CHA projects for Maya Road. I must say, I’m LOVING the new Wood Bird Cages (page 1 in the catalog) and 4″ x 6″ Card Sentiment Words Stamp Set (page 4 in the catalog). This tag was fun and pretty quick to create. I started with an Inkssentials #8 Manila Tag and covered it with Pink Paislee patterned paper. I then used the Maya Road Ornate Feathered Friends 4″ x 6″ stamp set as a background stamp (page 15 in the catalog). I then machine stitched a straight stitch all around the inside edge of the tag and distressed and inked the edges. Tip: I leave the stamps on the clear sheet as the come when purchased then ink the stamps with...

Family is Everything

Dec 26, 2012

This is the canvas I created for Mom. I made her a family tree sorta canvas. You will see me at the top as I’m the oldest, then I placed my two daughters Terri and Ansley underneath me. Next is my brother Richard, then my sister Belinda and her kids Amanda, Brittain, Madelyn and Isabella (Bellie). I created this canvas using the Maya Road Portrait Chipboard pieces, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Acrylic Paint Charcoal Black, Traditional Tan and Blank Canvas. I accented the sides using the Heart stencil by Dina Wakley as the hearts were the perfect size for this piece. I traced mine onto the sides using a pencil then using a paint brush filled them in with black paint and white accents. I painted each portrait chipboard piece using black paint. Once dry...

Reindeer Ornament

Dec 4, 2012

Isn’t this ornament cute. I love the whimsy style and think my nieces will too. So let me tell you how this ornament came about because this is NO WHERE close to being my vintage style. While cleaning and organizing my craft room I found a set of cookie stencils that I bought LAST year to do what with I have no idea but they were in the dollar bin so I grabbed them mainly for the snowflake and reindeer. Well the other day, while I was doing some serious procrastinating in the cleaning department I was looking on Pinterest and came across these really cute reindeer cookies click HERE and HERE. Inspiration hit right then and there. I thought how cute would it to be to make an ornament using the Gingerbread Man cookie...
