Maya Road Sneak Peeks Day 1

Jan 20, 2012

Finally the day is here… Maya Road Sneak Peeks have begun. I tell ya I don’t think I could have waited another day. I’ve been so inspired with this winter release and want to share, share, share. I know I say this every time but I honestly do believe it… this is their BEST RELEASE ever! So many awesome new items. Okay, on to today’s project. One of my favorite new items are the Wood Vintage Birds. Each package contains 5 styles & 10 birds that are just waiting for you to alter. They range in measurements from 1.5″ to 3″ and are perfect to paint, ink, glitter etc. I had fun painting, inking, crackling and glittering the fat chubby bird. He looks like a winter bird sitting in the snow all fluffed up...

Its been a Dogs day afternoon…

May 17, 2011

and soon to be bath day as well for three super wonderful doggies. Today, I am taking a day off from the studio to just relax and get myself organized. I’ve discovered I’m the worlds worst at relaxing. I just cannot do it. Always feel like I need to be doing something at all hours of the day or night. So today I sat outside with the four legged babies and threw toys and just chilled. They loved it and I love watching how they are all so different in personality. We can only throw rope toys or balls for one dog at a time. Chiefie being the youngest can out run the other two, Buster being the middle is a pure toot and will turn nasty the second Chief or Sonny even thinks...

Bird Nest Charm

May 9, 2011

I’ve been noticing a lot of bird nest charms being created lately and thought I would give making one a try over the weekend. It’s not perfect, yet not too bad for a first attempt either. So you have a reference point this charm is about the size of a quarter. The creative process is pretty simple… just thread a bead for each child in your family onto 26 gauge wire (I used 24 gauge but think the 26 would look nicer), twist the wire near the beads to secure them in place, then just wrap the wire around and around and around the beads until you get the birds nest to the size you like. I then cut two pieces of wire to about 2 inches in length and wrapped them around the...

The parentals came to town…

Apr 19, 2011

Saturday, mom and dad came up for a quick visit and when they come they always bring fun stuff. Mom painted me a gorgeous painting that will reside in my scraproom soon so I can see it everyday. I love the colors and texture so much. I did  my best to get the colors correct but the lighting is not working with me too well this morning. The size of the canvas is 16 x 20 and will fill the space in my scraproom perfectly. Hanging on the green wall will really make all the colors pop nicely. I really like the simplicity of the three little birds sitting on the twig. The sides of the canvas are the same color. Then you have several different shades of beige, red and turquoise. Love, love,...

Oh Pinterest…

Mar 18, 2011

Do you Pinterest? I sure do. My goodness this site can suck hours out of your day before it even starts. But I have to tell you it has so many wonderful DIY projects I can hardly stand it so if you don’t you need to check it out. The other day while I was “researching” as I call it, I came across this super cute Birds Nest Tutorial using paper mache and shredded brown lunch bags or dictionary pages. Yesterday, I could not take it any longer and had to make one although, I made mine smaller they they did in Country Living. So I pulled out our paper shredder and two brown paper lunch bags and got to business. Supplies Used: Collage Pauge Instant Decoupage Matte, Water, Shredded lunch bags, foil, plastic...

Acceptance my word for 2010

Dec 18, 2009

I have been thinking a lot lately about what word I plan to really embrace for myself this year. After a lot of thought and reading these two blog posts Katie’s and Karen’s I can really relate to some of what they are saying. I decided my word needs to be acceptance. I have a very hard time being happy with anything I create or do. I always feel I can or need to be better. This issue involves my art, family life etc. It carries over into everything. I have always had a hard time living just in the moment. I have a very type A personality and suffer from panic attacks that at times can be paralyzing. I worry about everything… am I a good mom, wife, artist, daughter, aunt, friend etc....

A little Valentine Tutorial…

Jan 19, 2009

I guess you can tell I LOVE Maya Road. Seriously love everything Deb and Caroline make and the great thing about their products are they mix and match perfectly. I always look at their coaster albums and think they would make wonderful fabric patterns. Well needing a break from book projects yesterday I decided to use the bird pattern to create my own fabric embellishment. Talk about super EASY to make. Seriously easy. This is the first piece of fabric anything I have ever sewn. Yes I got the sewing machine to sew on paper. Anyway, I thought I would create a little tutorial thinking you might like to give this a try. Supplies Needed: 2-Ring Heart Binder (1 page) Sheer Heart Scallop Book (1 page) Heart Chipboard Book (1 page) Bird Chipboard Book...
