Fun Getting To Know You Christmas Questions

Dec 19, 2014

Here are some fun getting to know you Christmas questions you can share with friends and family at a family gathering or party. I always find it interesting in how others celebrate the holiday season. If you don’t celebrate Christmas you can easily change the questions to fit your holiday celebration. My sister and her family arrive late tonight and I cannot wait to have some fun with everyone. You know I’m on “best weekend ever” notice for Madelyn and Isabella. I LOVE being their aunt. I have a weekend of fun all planned out that includes lots of hot chocolate, s’mores, cookie baking, holiday light looking and presents. It’s going to be a fabulous weekend. 1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? This year it’s all about Gift Bags.  2. Real tree or artificial? We...

Weekend of Holiday Decorating

Dec 8, 2014

The Christmas tree is the first item to go up in our house during the holiday season. Ansley designed this “Peppermint” tree a few years ago and we’ve kept it since. It’s a fun tree that is easy to put up and take down and lets face it during the holidays easy is the key word. Once the tree is all set Ansley and I start to plan how we want to decorate the house. This year it is all about lights. In the den, we decided to hang three wreaths with white lights and some garland with red and white lights in the bay window. We added white lights on the fireplace mantel and I accented it with some of my favorite vintage mercury glass ornaments, garland and green depression glass. I say “I” accented...

DART Rail & The Dallas World Aquarium

Jul 31, 2014

Tuesday, Ansley and I rode the DART rail into Dallas to take Bellie to visit the Dallas World Aquarium. The ride into Dallas was made super fun because we sat in our seat so that we were going backwards. When your 7 that’s awesome. Once we arrived it was absolute amazement. I’m a firm believer that if you really want to enjoy something like this completely take a child. Their wonder and excitement is priceless. We got to the sloth exhibit at the perfect time as it was climbing up and down the trees ever so slowly. This is my third time to visit the aquarium and the first time to ever see the sloth move. Usually, it’s sleeping and not moving a muscle. I thought Bellie’s eyes were going to pop right out...

Walk, Eat & Shop

Mar 5, 2014

To offset all the calories Alan and I have been consuming with just one meal a day Lola has been getting some nice walks when the sun decides to show its face. My gosh, Terri and Laren live near so many amazing places to eat.  Honestly, all we can eat is one meal and I can’t even finish my entire meal. The food in Deep Ellum is so incredible. For Lunch/Dinner Alan and I went to Allgood Cafe. He had their amazing Chicken Fried Steak and I had their OMGOSH lick your plate clean Truck Stop Hot Beef Sandwich. This sandwich was so darn incredible. Their mashed potatoes are absolutely to die for too. I could only eat half of my sandwich so Alan finished it off for me. I have no idea how...

Home For Christmas

Dec 27, 2013

This year, we seemed to celebrated Christmas a little bit at a time. We had a family get together with Terri and Laren at their loft on the 23rd then a small Christmas celebration at our house Christmas Eve.  Christmas morning, my nephew Brittain and I headed down to Beaumont to see family and celebrate Christmas with my parents. Alan and Ansley both had to work on the 26th so they couldn’t come along but when I return home they’ll have a small Christmas celebration with the gifts I bring back. We arrived at mom and dad’s house in the late afternoon and everyone was ready to exchange gifts. It’s always a flurry of excitement during Christmas at mom and dad’s. I’ve been very blessed to always have an amazing Christmas. Mom and Dad...

Hot Chocolate Recipe

Dec 10, 2013

During our iced in long weekend I made several pots of this hot chocolate. One batch for the family and a surprise batch for the neighborhood kids so they could warm up as they played outside. They had so much fun all weekend sledding down our driveway and ice skating in the street. And when you are between the ages of 6 & 10 years old there’s nothing better than having someone bring out a crock pot filled with Free Hot Chocolate, a Bag of Marshmallows and Dixie Cups then sitting everything on the porch telling you to drink all you want. Oh and I got a great laugh as I overheard one little boy telling his friend, “This is actually really good hot chocolate.” These kids really reaped the rewards of me terribly...

Cyber Monday Etsy Sale

Dec 2, 2013

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know I have a few added pounds from mom’s awesome turkey, stuffing and desserts. After dinner everyone was stuffed and all us adults needed naps except Madelyn and Bellie, they were running around like the energizer bunny and were glued to Ansley’s hip. Madelyn and Bellie LOVE Ansley. After 50 years, mom and dad finally have a table to sit the entire family. This has been one of mom’s wishes for years and I’m so glad it finally came true. Thanksgiving dinner was a wonderful way to break it in too.  From left to right are Mom, Laren (son-in-law), Terri (daughter), Amanda (niece), Steve (Amanda’s boyfriend), Dad (Santa), Brittain (nephew), Bellie (niece), Ansley (daughter), Me and Madelyn (niece). Chicken Spaghetti

Sep 3, 2013

Here is an awesome chicken spaghetti recipe I got from my niece, Amanda. It’s amazing and was gone before I knew it… seriously, Ansley and Brittain ate an entire 9″ x 13″ pan of it in less than 24 hours! This recipe is super simple with nearly no clean up needed. Talk about my kind of cooking. It is a bit spicy with the can of Rotel, if you don’t like real spicy food make sure you use the Mild...

Melt Art Mania

May 30, 2013

This giveaway is now CLOSED and the winner has been announced HERE. Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I was thrilled when Ranger asked me to participate in their Melt Art Mania event. All they asked was that I create a project using their melting pot and any other Melt Art products. If this is the first you’ve heard about their Melt Art Mania event go check out their blog. Starting May 15th, Ranger has featured some of the most amazing projects and tutorials created by artists from all over using products from their Melt Art line. I decided to feature their Melting Pot, Texture Treads, Bees Wax and Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel ~ UTEE. I love the feel and color of Natural Bees Wax and had my mind set on creating...

Stained Glass Boiled Eggs

Apr 1, 2013

Ansley and I had so much fun making these eggs, last night. She heard about this stained glass technique for boiled eggs and wanted to give it a try. After she explained it to me I had to see if it really worked so off to the store we went to get some eggs and neon colored food coloring because well that is how Ansley rolls. No vintage colors for this girl. It’s bright neon or nothing for her. I can’t believe I birthed two daughters that want nothing to do with anything vintage. How did this happen? To make your stained glass eggs you will need the following: boiled eggs, food coloring, vinegar & Ziploc sandwich bags First boil as many eggs as you want to make and let them cool. We ran cold...

DIY Super Easy Bead Charm

Mar 7, 2013

Making a charm really cannot get much easier than this one. I recently purchased Margot Potter’s 1 Pound Luxury Bead Soup Mix and as soon as Ansley saw the neon beads she instantly claimed them as hers. This bead mix is filled with all kinds of awesome beads. When I poured all the beads onto my work table I was thrilled with the wide assortment. Ansley decided she wanted a double sided charm so I placed the smaller of the neon beads on one side and once the Diamond Glaze is fully dried I will fill the back side of this charm with the larger neon beads shown above. To create this charm I used Diamond Glaze, Neon Beads, a sprinkle of Iridescent Glitter and a My Jewelry Shoppe 3/4″ Circle Double Sided Bezel...

Happy New Year ~ 2013

Jan 1, 2013

Thank you all for such an awesome year. Throughout the year, I’ve celebrated with you the birth of our niece Olivia and Ansley turning 18. I introduced you to my love of needle felting, shared in my excitement of attending Ranger University and announced my Antiquated Collection Spring Release. I got to do a super fun Free Webinar with my friend Ronda Palazzari, had a blast at CHA‑S and touring downtown. I was asked to do a demo & book signing for the Grand Opening of Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts in Sherman, Texas and got to teach classes at ScrapFest in MN. Caroline and I traveled to Bellagio, Italy where I taught at A Kiss on the Chic’s Creative Retreat. I discovered the art of resin and filled my online store and Etsy store with lots of fun stuff. I loved watching my nieces with the 25...

Family is Everything

Dec 26, 2012

This is the canvas I created for Mom. I made her a family tree sorta canvas. You will see me at the top as I’m the oldest, then I placed my two daughters Terri and Ansley underneath me. Next is my brother Richard, then my sister Belinda and her kids Amanda, Brittain, Madelyn and Isabella (Bellie). I created this canvas using the Maya Road Portrait Chipboard pieces, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Acrylic Paint Charcoal Black, Traditional Tan and Blank Canvas. I accented the sides using the Heart stencil by Dina Wakley as the hearts were the perfect size for this piece. I traced mine onto the sides using a pencil then using a paint brush filled them in with black paint and white accents. I painted each portrait chipboard piece using black paint. Once dry...

Christmas Cookies

Dec 17, 2012

Over the weekend I baked several of our favorite Christmas cookies. I doubled up on each cookie as one batch was for us and our local friends then made another batch for family in Beaumont. Needless to say our house smelled great all weekend. In case you want to try some or all of our favorite holiday cookies I thought I’d share the recipes. This is a new cookie I created this year. Alan and I love them but Ansley not so much. They are a spice cake type cookie with white chocolate morsels mixed inside and are kinda more like a brownie textured cookie. I love spice cake as it brings back wonderful memories of my grandmother, so I thought I would try to honor her at Christmas with a spice cookie. Grammy...

So much countdown fun

Dec 14, 2012

I’ve really enjoyed getting nightly photos of my nieces Madelyn and Bellie enjoying their 25 Day Countdown to Christmas activity. They are loving everything I’ve included so far. Each night is a surprise for all me and them as I don’t know the order in which Belinda has them doing their activity. Warning… this is a very heavy photo blog post but I really want to share their fun with far away family so I hope you don’t mind it not being crafty today. Madelyn and Bellie were making their Christmas cards, this night. I can only imagine how they decorated them because both love anything that has to do with art. Here they had a blast making paper chain garlands. This is such a fun, simple old fashioned decoration to make that brings...

Blast from the Past 2

Aug 3, 2012

Here is a layout I did in 2005 documenting Ansley going to her first “Daddy Daughter Dance.” This layout actually got picked up for publication and can be found in the JoAnn ScrapEssentials Idea Book Vol. 2. If you have this idea book this layout is featured on page 51. You can see I still love to use glossy accents and iridescent glitter. That is what I used to accent the journaling strips. Still love the journaling strip look. I still accent the edges of my paper with brown ink. Still love to use ribbon, buttons and rhinestones. Don’t use brads all that much anymore. Still love to create my own embellishments. Love using silk flowers but now would distress them with ink or paint and cover them in crystal coarse glitter. I created...

Look who is 5 months…

Jul 5, 2012

My gosh, I cannot believe Olivia is already five months. She is growing so fast and it makes me sad. A baby does not stay a baby near long enough. Although, when you’re deep in the middle of baby mode you feel like it will never end and your life will be like this forever. But when your youngest just graduated high school like Ansley just did when I look at baby photos of my niece Olivia it really seems as though Ansley should be around 2 or 3 not 18. I think the best advice I would give to first time parents if asked is first accept your child for who he or she is and enjoy each and every second of each and every day and document, document, document. Documenting doesn’t have...

A Birthday Luncheon Surprise

Jun 28, 2012

Madelyn had a super special day, yesterday. In this photo she had no clue what fun was headed her way. Before coming to see us this week, she discovered there was an American Girl store in Dallas. Madelyn LOVES her American Girl My Twin and wanted so badly to go and get her dolls ears pierced. So me being me could not just settle for that knowing her 9th birthday was so close… July 2nd. Before she arrived I called and made reservations for a surprise birthday luncheon in her honor. Ansley and Terri were able to come celebrate with us and my mom and dad and her mom and Malcolm made sure to send her money (unknowingly to her it was tucked inside her suitcase) so Madelyn could purchase her beloved McKenna doll. They did it!!!

Jun 5, 2012

Yes THEY, as my nephew Brittain graduated high school the night before Ansley. So my mom and dad get the grandparent’s award for sure. They went to Brittain’s graduation in Kountze, Texas Friday evening, then drove straight to Frisco to attend Ansley’s graduation, Saturday morning. They arrived at our place at 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning, slept a few hours and then bam it was graduation time all over again. Ansley and Brittain have worried about Mom Mom and Paw Paw attending their graduations since they were in the 6th grade. My mom and dad always told them they would get there one way or another and they stayed true to their promise.
