Maya Road Sneak Peek ~ Wood Bird Cages

Jan 8, 2013

Maya Road Wood Bird Cages

In between book projects, I squeezed in a little creative time to make some small CHA projects for Maya Road. I must say, I’m LOVING the new Wood Bird Cages (page 1 in the catalog) and 4″ x 6″ Card Sentiment Words Stamp Set (page 4 in the catalog). This tag was fun and pretty quick to create.

I started with an Inkssentials #8 Manila Tag and covered it with Pink Paislee patterned paper. I then used the Maya Road Ornate Feathered Friends 4″ x 6″ stamp set as a background stamp (page 15 in the catalog). I then machine stitched a straight stitch all around the inside edge of the tag and distressed and inked the edges.

Tip: I leave the stamps on the clear sheet as the come when purchased then ink the stamps with Jet Black Archival Ink and stamp the images onto the patterned paper. You end up with a perfect background stamp every single time. I do this with all of the Maya Road 4″ x 6″ stamp sets. So technically, you have a background stamp and lots of individual stamps with one set.

I covered two Maya Road  chipboard birds from the Home Tweet Home chipboard set (page 11 in the catalog) with Pink Paislee patterned paper and inked the edges of both birds and one branch entirely using Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Next I colored all three Maya Road Wood Bird Cages using Copic Markers and accented each one using Diamond Stickles. Once dry I thread the top of each Maya Road Wood Bird Cage using Maya Road Twine Cording in Celery Green, Blueberry and Lavender Fields (page 5 in the catalog).

Next, I placed (did not glue) the Wood Bird Cages onto the tag where I wanted them. Then I trimmed off the excess Twine Cording. Now I attached the birds and branch using a strong adhesive to the tag and top of Wood Bird Cage. I only glued the twine cording to the tag not the Wood Bird Cages as I wanted the cages to move on the tag.

Lastly, I stamped the words “Happy Birthday Wishes To You” onto Pink Paislee patterned paper using Jet Black Archival Ink, distressed and inked the edges of each word using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and attached them to the tag as shown using a strong liquid adhesive. I created a tie for the tag using Maya Road Clementine Orange Twine Cording.

Now I’m off to start packing… I sure hope the weather we are supposed to get tonight and tomorrow morning does not mess up my travel plans. Thankfully, I will have Caroline and David to talk to if there are delays. I love being their travel buddy.
