CHA~W Day 2

Jan 30, 2012

It was CRAZY at the Maya Road make n take table today… crazy, crazy, crazy. But I love reconnecting with people from all over the world each year. This is certainly a wonderful bonus by being in this industry. And since I’ve done make n takes for Maya Road since 2007 (cannot BELIEVE it has been this long) I’ve been able to keep in touch with so many awesome people. Tomorrow is going to be a super busy day. I have two book signings, a demo and more awesome Maya Road make n takes. Book Signings ~ Tuesday, January 31st 11:00 R&M West Coast Enterprises Inc. Booth #1329 2:00 F + W Media Inc. Ranger’s Designer Challenge

Jan 29, 2012

I was so excited to be asked to participate in their Designer Challenge. They sent each designer a blank paper mache dress form to alter any way we wanted. All they asked was that we stayed true to our style and used any or all three of these items Stickles, Liquid Pearls and/or Crackle Accents.  Here is what I created… There are 18 different Ranger products on this piece. Adirondack Lights Acrylic Paint Dabber ~ Juniper Jenni Bowlin No. 10 Malted Milk Tim Holtz Distress Stain ~ Mustard Seed Distress Crackle Paint ~ Clear Rock Candy Inkssentials Crackle Accents Claudine Hellmuth Studio Multi-Medium Matte Claudine Hellmuth Studio Gesso Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink ~ Latte & Ginger Archival Ink ~ Coffee Perfect Pearls Mists ~ Biscotti Liquid Pearls ~ Copper Pearl & Gold Pearl...

Day 1 of Set Up

Jan 28, 2012

Today, we will have the Maya Road booth completed and all ready for Opening Day. With all the team work that was going on the booth is now 80% complete. I think this is a record for day one of set up. It all went far too smoothly if you ask me… kinda makes me nervous. We started unpacking some of the design team projects and oh my goodness are you all going to LOVE their projects. I do believe the design team out did themselves this show. AMAZING stuff was created for the show. I thought I would share some behind the scene (hope you don’t mind me using that saying Mario) type photos so you can kinda see what it is like preparing for the show. Set up days are not glamorous one teeny...

Olivia Dylan Pace

Jan 27, 2012

I’m so happy to share the newest addition to the Pace family. My niece, Olivia Dylan Pace was born January 25th. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 2 oz. and is doing great. Olivia is the first child born to my brother-in-law Douglas and his wife Karen. They live out of state so it is pure torture not being able to snuggle on her. Nothing sweeter than a new born baby. First Family Photo January 25, 2012 Olivia Dylan Pace Olivia and her daddy. As you can see by his expression… Olivia already has her daddy wrapped around her finger. This photo of Karen and Olivia looks like the Norman Rockwell of all mommy and baby photos, there is such sweet honest emotion between a mom and her newborn baby. You can see the...

On My Way to CHA

Jan 26, 2012

But first one last sneak peek before I go… This is a cuff I created using the new Maya Road Cream Soft Vintage Scallop Trim, their Small Organza Grey Roses Ribbon, the new Antique Pearl Center Flowers and one of their Cream Winter’s Roses accented with an Antique Jewel Button center. Now back to last minute packing, checking, double checking and triple checking my list of things to bring. I love the hustle and bustle of CHA. And I’m so fortunate to get to work with a great group of people at Maya Road. It’s hard to believe I’ve been with them since 2007. Seems just like yesterday that I tried out for the design team. Lots of great things have happened since I became a Roadie. So come see us in booth #1793 as...

Celebrating 45 Years…

Jan 25, 2012

Fiskars is celebrating 45 years of making their awesome Orange Handled Scissors. I cannot remember our house not having a pair of Fiskars scissors in it while growing up. And I can honestly say they are still my all time favorite scissors. I create with several different styles Original Orange Handled 8″, Micro Tip Comfort Grip #5, Micro Tip #5 and Non-Stick Fashion Detail #5 but the pair I seem to wear out the most are the Micro Tip #5 pair. I use these every single day as they fit perfectly in my hand and cut so precisely. To help Fiskars celebrate the 45th anniversary of their iconic Orange-Handled Scissors, check out their page on facebook . This celebration is going to be a fun-filled 45-day countdown leading up to the first day of...

Maya Road Sneak Peek 5

Jan 24, 2012

My Love, Dream, Create, Soar banner is created using the new Maya Road Flag Banner. This banner comes with two binder rings, four scallop pages, four plain pages and measures 4.9″ x 6.2″. It’s the perfect size for altering. The top of each banner page is accented using the new Vintage Rhinestone Iridescent Diamond and Amber Trim. This Trim is amazing!!! It looks just like vintage rhinestone trim I would find in antique stores. Each plain page on this banners is stamped using the new Ornate Frames Clear Stamp Set. I was so happy to discover that the Antiquated Collection ladies and gents fit perfectly to scale in each frame. The look just like framed vintage portraits. Love, Dream, Create, Soar are stamps from the Art Journaling Words Stamp Set. Each word is stamped onto...

Maya Road Sneak Peek 4

Jan 23, 2012

This Sampler Piece is one of my favorite projects I created for CHA. It showcases all kinds of Maya Road embellishments as well as stamps from all the Antiquated Collection stamp sets. The base of the canvas is covered with linen and all the altered square and rectangle chipboard pieces are from the Maya Road Foundations Chipboard Set. I covered them with vintage ledger paper and vintage sheet music. Then stamped all the images using Jet Black Archival Ink. So on to the Maya Road winter release items… the top middle rectangle has their new Vintage Metal Trinket Dress Form Hangers. The second row first square showcases their new Wood Mini Butterflies and the second row third square showcases their new Canvas Shipping Tags. In the upper left corner you can see a new...

Maya Road Sneak Peek 3

Jan 22, 2012

I’m really liking all the wood items Maya Road is releasing at CHA. You can alter these in so many different ways. I applied watered down Espresso Brown Maya Mist on the Wooden Doily then once dry lightly rubbed a Maya Road Gold Ink Pad around the edges. This gave the doily a nice aged look. Next, I painted the entire top side of the Wooden Bird with a thin layer of acrylic paint, while the paint was still wet I sprinkled a light coating of Maya Road Iridescent Glitter on top. Once the paint was dry I covered the top of the bird with two layers of Diamond Glaze, making sure it dried completely in between each layer. The top of the bird is accented with vintage buttons, a piece of Vintage Rhinestone...

Maya Road Sneak Peek 2

Jan 21, 2012

This 3″ x 3″ mini canvas that I like to call a “This & That”, “Odds & Ends” or “Junk Style” Mini Canvas uses up all the extra embellishments we have left over in our stash taking up valuable space.  This canvas is ALL Maya Road with the exception of one vintage button and the stamped word and pattern on the Kraft Flag and chipboard spool. These are from my Antiquated Collection stamp sets. Now let me see if I can find all the new Maya Road winter release products… this might be a challenge for me and I made the project. Okay from top to bottom. Clementine Orange Twine Cording (over 100 yards per roll) Tomato Red Twine Cording (over 100 yards per roll) Vintage Kraft Flag Pins (2 Styles 20 pieces +...

Maya Road Sneak Peeks Day 1

Jan 20, 2012

Finally the day is here… Maya Road Sneak Peeks have begun. I tell ya I don’t think I could have waited another day. I’ve been so inspired with this winter release and want to share, share, share. I know I say this every time but I honestly do believe it… this is their BEST RELEASE ever! So many awesome new items. Okay, on to today’s project. One of my favorite new items are the Wood Vintage Birds. Each package contains 5 styles & 10 birds that are just waiting for you to alter. They range in measurements from 1.5″ to 3″ and are perfect to paint, ink, glitter etc. I had fun painting, inking, crackling and glittering the fat chubby bird. He looks like a winter bird sitting in the snow all fluffed up...

Last Sneak Peek of the Sneak Peeks

Jan 19, 2012

As you can see by the sneak peek of this sneak peek I was not kidding when I said I was loving Distress Crackle Clear Rock Candy Paint. I love the look on top of the ad from the Antiquated Collection Perfumery stamp set. And just look at the detail of the perfume bottle and crown, it’s spectacular. Judi at Pink Persimmon did an amazing job cleaning up all the images. I colored the perfume bottle using Distress Ink Worn Lipstick. All I did was wet a paintbrush with water then applied a small amount of worn lipstick ink on to the paintbrush and used the ink as a watercolor. How simple and it’s the perfect vintage shade of pink. Just make sure you use Archival Ink when you stamp your image. This ink...

Old Fashioned Sampler

Jan 18, 2012

One item I always have to stop and admire when stumbled upon in antique stores and flea markets are vintage samplers. Each stitch is so lovingly placed and framed for all to see. I find them to be such an inspiring piece of art. These such items were the inspiration for the project I’m showing sneak peeks of today. Once the official Maya Road sneak peeks begin (I’ve heard Thursday is the day… fingers crossed) I’ll show the entire piece. Caroline is torturing us with this wait but it will be worth it… promise. The design team has created some amazing projects. This Square Chipboard Foundations piece is covered with vintage ledger paper and stamped with the Antiquated Collection Perfumery stamps. I accented the square using Maya Road skinny spools and white pearl flower...

The Anatomy of a Design Team Canvas

Jan 17, 2012

This is the design team canvas I created for the Maya Road booth 1793 at CHA‑W. I thought it would be fun to share with you my thought process and why I used some of the items. The way this works is Caroline sends each design team member a blank canvas to alter any way we want. The only criteria is it must include Maya Road product, our photo and be a reflection of us. Super fun is all I can say. The first thing I did was cover the canvas with vintage sheet music then aged it a bit more using ink and paint. I wanted a bit of whimsy so I painted the scallops all around the inside edges. Since you all know I LOVE glitter I had to add a little...

We still keep in touch and I’ll see her at CHA. Can’t wait! This canvas is a mini as it only measures 2.5″ x 3″. Arty Friends are FUN!!!

Jan 12, 2012

I was chatting with my friend Wendy Vecchi the other day and while we were talking away she shared a super cool technique she discovered while creating with her Clearly For Art Blackout Modeling Film. Wait until you see what she altered using her technique at CHA. STUNNING, is all I can say. My jaw dropped when I saw it. Truly AMAZING!!! So fast forward a few days and while I was working on this project, last night I wanted to put this escutcheon piece on it but felt it looked too new. So thanks to Wendy, I decided to try out the technique she shared with me and I love the outcome. It looks just how I had it visualized in my head. THANK YOU, WENDY! Wait until you see this finished project…...

The Art of Felting

Jan 11, 2012

I’ve been playing around with several new mediums lately and felting has been the latest one. It has always intrigued me and I find taking wool roving and shaping it into something is quite relaxing, that is unless your my dad. Then, well… it’s not so relaxing. I taught him and mom how to do it during their Christmas visit and he was not too impressed. He’s decided to stick to woodcarving. But I do have a star and a bird that they both completed that I’ll show you tomorrow. They did a great job. I decided to take this felted heart and cover it with small scraps of stamped muslin, linen and burlap then accent them with vintage buttons, pearls and charms. I attached two jump rings at the top of the heart...

Art Requires Courage

Jan 10, 2012

As I was looking for a quote for this piece (yes I know sneak peeks… sorry), I came across the quote “All art requires courage” by Anne Tucker. I felt it was the perfect quote as it is so true. Art does require courage. When creating I start out with not a clue of what I will create… I have the base for my creation but that is all, I just start gathering items from bags, drawers, boxes, storage bins etc. I pretty much create the same way I hunt for treasures in thrift stores, flea markets and antique shops. I just dig and dig until I have a combination of unique items that compliment one another then start putting them all together. Once finished is when the real courage comes for me… posting it...

Year in Review ~ Goals

Jan 9, 2012

I’m very goal oriented and love creative challenges, so in 2011 I set two goals finish my second book without a hitch and find someone that believed in me enough to launch a very vintage stamp line. With a lot of hard work and faith by the end of the 2011 I was able to check these two goals off my list. It is such a nice feeling to set goals and see them obtained. 1. In early May, I completed my second technique based book ~ “Delight in The Seasons” this book will give you ideas to create a year of memorable holidays & celebrations and is filled with loads of inspiration. Year in Review ~ Perfect Pearls

Jan 6, 2012

In January Ranger asked me to participate in their Designer Challenge. They sent the frame and you had to alter it using the products they sent. Well the product was Perfect Pearls and Perfect Pearl Mist. I was a bit scared as I had not really played with Perfect Pearls before. I’d seen them demoed but that was it. So me being me I just jumped in and started going to town. They are really fun to use. My favorite way is to mix the Perfect Pearl Powders with the coordinating Perfect Pearl Mists. 2011 Designer Challenge for Ranger Ink Altered Canvas Roses accented with Perfect Pearl Powders, Perfect Pearl Mists and Stickles. After I created each flower I then mixed together the PP Powder and Mists and painted the mixture onto the book page...
