Sing Your Own Song

Jun 3, 2014

I wasn’t kidding when I said I LOVED Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Birds stamp set. Here is another piece I made over the weekend. Using Jet Black Archival Ink I stamped the bird image onto a 6″ piece of watercolor paper, then filled it in with acrylic paints. I painted the entire background with teal acrylic paint. I used the Kaleidoscope stencil by Ronda Palazzari and some of Wendy Vecchi’s Crackle Texture Paste to add texture to the piece. Once the paste was dry and did it’s magic I inked it with Archival Inks and Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Using Multi Medium I attached some vintage sheet music and an image from a book. Next I covered the stenciled areas and the branch image with bits and pieces of a dress pattern. Once the multi  medium dried I...

Rocky Mountain Memories ~ I’ll be There Soon

Apr 14, 2014

I’m getting so excited about my return visit to Rocky Mountain Memories in Estes Park, CO. This is the sweetest most quaint store that sits in the heart of downtown Estes Park along the riverwalk. Rocky Mountain Memories is filled with great products and super fun people. Cheryl Grigsby, the owner is living my dream. Seriously, a scrapbook store in Estes Park, CO, pure heaven. Last year, when I taught there I got to stay in Rick and Cheryl’s amazing cabin. While there all I could think about was how much mom and dad would love staying at “Redemption Cabin“. So this year, I’m bringing Mr. & Mrs. Claus along for the ride. They are getting  a wonderful mini vacation in one of their all time favorite spots while I teach. Mom and Dad...

Inspiration for a Crafty Weekend

Nov 30, 2012

Since I am cleaning out and reorganizing my craft room, this week, which is total torture but thankfully I have an awesome neighbor, Jennifer who is helping me and keeping me on task. I just keep telling myself once I’m finished it’s going to be so awesome working in it once again. These are just a portion of the empty boxes I had to go through, empty out and put stuff away. Caroline Lau is to blame for LOTS of these boxes. Anyway, I thought I would take a break and go through my blog post Archives and find some weekend inspiration for you. I plan on making all my Christmas gifts this year and if you are as well, well there might be a few things to inspire you. Sometimes it good to...

Everything Wendy Vecchi

Jul 24, 2012

Yes, this post is all about my friend, Wendy Vecchi. She has so many wonderful things going on right now that there is no way I could post several throughout the week. I have to post it ALL today! First up are her awesome new Stamp Sets by Stampers Anonymous. They are adorable, gorgeous and funky. I love the unique mix in this release. Next are her new Art Parts… Look at the Pitcher of Roses piece… I love how it has the inside piece cut out so the pitcher stays flat on your piece… so smart that Wendy is I tell ya. Her Birds with Wings set is another of my favorites. And look at the huge secret she has been keeping… Wendy now has Stencils for Art… wait until you see what...

Here is a run down of day one… 10:00 – 11:00 ~ start make-n-takes in the Maya Road booth. Gail Holley an instructor for The Scrapbook Page and More was my first make-n-take attendee AND knew the password *** I love Maya Road Pearl Bead Chain *** so she won a signed copy of “Delight In The Seasons”. 11:00 ~ take workshop kits and supplies to my classroom then head back to the booth to do a few more make-n-takes. 11:45 – 12:50 ~ back to the classroom to set up for my workshop “Welcome Home with Maya Road.” 1:00 ~ 3:00 ~ Teach my “Welcome Home...

Arty Friends are FUN!!!

Jan 12, 2012

I was chatting with my friend Wendy Vecchi the other day and while we were talking away she shared a super cool technique she discovered while creating with her Clearly For Art Blackout Modeling Film. Wait until you see what she altered using her technique at CHA. STUNNING, is all I can say. My jaw dropped when I saw it. Truly AMAZING!!! So fast forward a few days and while I was working on this project, last night I wanted to put this escutcheon piece on it but felt it looked too new. So thanks to Wendy, I decided to try out the technique she shared with me and I love the outcome. It looks just how I had it visualized in my head. THANK YOU, WENDY! Wait until you see this finished project…...

Always adding more…

Dec 9, 2011

So the more I looked at the domino art piece I posted yesterday, the more I felt it needed more… it just lacked that little something extra. So back into the scraproom it went as I had ideas in my head and well, once and idea enters my head I can’t do anything else until I give it a go. So here is what the finished piece looked like, yesterday. And here is what it looks like now. Since I could not apply alcohol ink to the face to darken the complexion, without worrying that the alcohol ink would ruin the stamped image, I decided to stamp the image onto the blank margin of a vintage book page then carefully and  ever so precisely cut out the face. I then placed the cut out image...

Black Friday

Nov 25, 2011

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Ansley went out with friends early this morning to do some Black Friday shopping. I on the other hand enjoyed a nice quiet evening and slept. I’m also hoping that what my friend Wendy says, “any pie eaten on a holiday has zero calories” is true. But, from the tightness of my jeans, today I think the pie might have been calorie free but what got me was the turkey, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, stuffing and deviled eggs.  I’m going to have to visit my long lost friend Mr. Treadmill ASAP. I am so not looking forward to his visit. Ok on to the fun… All you local Scrappers, Stampers and Mixed Media Arts  The Crafty Scrapper is having a wonderful BLACK FRIDAY SALE… I’m happy...

Antiquated Collection and Studio 490…

Nov 24, 2011

Wendy did it again… I got this fabulous surprise in my inbox today just after getting a text telling me to check my email. I cannot even describe the feeling of what it feels like seeing my stamps used in projects but I can tell ya it is one awesome feeling. When the Antiquated Collection stamp sets were being put together never did I at the time think of how perfectly they would go with Wendy Vecchi’s Studio 490 Stamp Sets and Art Parts. But look for yourself… they work together perfectly. In this project, Wendy used the gentleman a.k.a. dapper dude from my Antiquated Collection Fine and Dandy stamp set. His robe is inked with the new Ranger Festive Berries Distress Ink. I’m so happy I just purchased this set while at The...

Filled with thanks…

Nov 22, 2011

I try to stay pretty positive in life but there are times when the old monkey wrench gets thrown in and increases my anxiety levels just a tad bit. Today, started out being one of those days and then two wonderful things happened that made me realize just how fortunate I am to be blessed with wonderful friends and acquaintances. This morning, I get a text from my friend Wendy telling me to check my email… well I instantly do it because, well it’s from Wendy and she told me too… love her so much. Well my eyes nearly popped right out of my head! Look at what was attached to her email. I cannot tell you how incredibly excited I was to see the awesome project she created using my Antiquated Collection Dr. Warner’s...

Last day of Show and Tell

Oct 20, 2011

This “Happy Birthday” tag can be found in the Summer chapter on page 64 of Delight In The Seasons. The technique featured is on page 65. But as you know this part still remains a secret. And just so you know, having to keep all of this a secret is killing me. I cannot wait for this book to hit the shelves. I used all kinds of fun products and tools when creating this tag…. Punches and Decorative Scissors, Ink and Paint, Stickles and Glitter, Stamping and Distressing and added texture using Seam Binding and Burlap. Machine stitching with a basic straight stitch using cream thread all around the patterned paper pieces and inner edge of the tag adds the perfect finishing touch. I hope this weeks Show and Tell has given you just...

Art Parts

Jul 16, 2011

While I was at the Great American Scrapbooking Convention in Arlington, this past June, I got to see my friend Wendy Vecchi. She surprised me and gave me one of her new Art Parts pieces and told me I could create anything I wanted. I was so excited and had so many ideas running through my head it took me awhile to decide what to do but this is the idea that made it to the canvas. Carolyn, at The Crafty Scrapper and I are working on coming up with a date to teach this project at her store. It’s super fun to make. I have a few Maya Road new release items included in this project too, their “Wooden Vintage Snowflakes” and “Vintage Findings Raspberry Beads”. Today, is all about washing, packing and...

Just a little something…

Jun 17, 2011

I’m so proud of my oldest daughter, Terri. She is a super hard worker and doing so well in her career. I really do miss the days when she was younger with her sweet little “Roo” voice, oh how I loved it when she would say “Momma.” But I must admit, seeing her grow and achieve her goals as an adult is equally rewarding. So yesterday, I decided to play in my studio and create a little something for her to put in her cubical. As you can see it’s filled with lots of Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 and Tim Holtz Ranger goodness. Supplies Used: Art Parts Square and Rectangle Frames, Art Parts Scallop Trim, Studio 490 Botanical Art, Studio 490 Live And Make Art, Distress Crackle Paint Rock Candy, Distress Crackle Paint Tattered...

Remember Today…

Jun 6, 2011

Actually I wish the cardstock sticker said “weekend” as it was such a fun one. Friday night, I taught my “Quilted Memories” class at The Crafty Scrapper. I left a few kits with Carolyn if you would like one. Just give her a call at the store: 972-923-3151. My friend Lisa E. joined me at the store which is always fun. We’ve been friends going on 11 years. She is my scrapping buddy. I had some super fun ladies in class and hope to see them again soon because we sure did laugh a lot. After the class was finished Lisa and I stayed and laughed with Carolyn (the owner). The girl cracks me up and is always entertaining. Saturday, Lisa E. and I went to GASC in Arlington to see Carolyn’s awesome booth....

Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers

Feb 11, 2011

I bet you were expecting another tag using Perfect Pearls? Well this one features Ranger’s Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers. When using paint I find it most inspiring to create whimsical pieces with brighter colors rather than my usual vintage style and shades. Kinda strange when I think about it. Also, did you notice I used my Canvas Album as inspiration for this tag? If you did, you are a very devoted blogger. I always find it fun to use items around my scraproom to create designs… one of the simplest things to create are polka dots with the non-bristle end of my paintbrushes. All you do is dip the end of the brush into the lid of the paintbrush and start creating dots. Clean up is super simple too. All you have to do...

Condolences and another tag…

Feb 10, 2011

First I must give my heart felt condolences to my Aunt and cousins. Yesterday, my Uncle David passed away peacefully at home. Uncle David was a quiet man yet when you talked with him he was so interesting as he could talk about all kinds of wonderful topics. Sadly, 10 years ago he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and not long after that Parkinson’s disease. Aunt Brenda cared for him at home every single day from the time of his diagnosis. Even though it is a blessing Uncle David has passed on it is still so sad and he will be missed. Aunt Brenda was a wonderful example of how family should care for family. We never heard her speak of any frustrations which I am certain there were many and we never ever heard...

Who do you love?

Feb 8, 2011

As a child growing up I loved getting to visit my grandparents. Grammy Childers and Grammy Spinney always had one thing in common… flowers. I remember knowing I was at Grammy Spinney’s house as soon as I saw the pansies in her yard. And every summer Grammy Childers had the most gorgeous Hydrangea bush just below her kitchen window. The blooms were the size of dinner plates. Her garden always had flowers growing around it as well as along the sidewalk of her house. So each time I see flowers blooming I always think of them. So since flowers seem to remind me of those two special ladies I thought I would share this tag I created for Ranger. It was in there booth during CHA-W. The flowers on this tag were created using...

Perfect Pearls Love Tag

Feb 7, 2011

I created this tag using the new Perfect Pearls Confections Kit just released at by Ranger CHA-W. If you went to Ranger’s booth you might have seen it. This new combination is so pretty and reminds me of Spring. If you would like to recreate this tag just go here and you’ll find the entire supply list and step by step instructions. I used the Tim Holtz Alterations Tattered Florals Bigz Die to make the flower. I like the look of the pearls and vintage buttons strung on 24 gauge wire. I think I might be doing this more often. And yes you can see I used UTEE on the tag. It adds just the right amount of dimension and is so simple to do. I need jars and jars and jars of this...
