Artist Trading Block ~ Night Light

Feb 25, 2014

Have you heard of Eileen Hull’s “Artist Trading Blocks“? Artist trading blocks allow you to create on a multi-dimensional canvas. I decided to turn my ATB into a night light. Before creating my ATB using a pencil I drew a heart shape on one end of the die cut ATB. Please Note: this end will open and close so you can place a battery tea light inside so don’t seal it shut. Using a craft knife cut the traced heart out of mat board. Now you are ready to assemble the ATB per the manufacturers instructions. Attach patterned paper to the ATB then ink the edges using Chestnut Roan ink. Using a craft knife, cut the patterned paper that is now covering the heart to create a heart shaped window. Attach a piece of lace...

Jenni Bowlin Studio ~ Thank U Card

Apr 12, 2013

Here is Card 2 of 4 and I must say, I think this card set is one of my favorite sets I’ve ever created. I just love the patterned papers and embellishments on each card. I’m telling you Lisa Dickinson’s Modern Mercantile line she designed for Jenni Bowlin Studio is so super inspiring. I love to create mini collages as the focal point on all my cards. A collage is not just layering and attaching paper and ephemera to a canvas it can be items of any kind grouped together, which is what I had loads of fun doing with this card. The wooden butterfly, heart pins, milk cap and resin flower make an adorable collage and the “thank u” sentiment works great to balance the collage perfectly. Creating 3D collages are wonderful ways to use...

A Shabby Christmas with Maya Road

Dec 13, 2012

Gosh it’s been a while since I last posted on my blog. I had to dust off the keys. This year, I’m making all my Christmas gifts so my still incredibly organized craftroom has had a flurry of glitter going on in it. Besides Christmas gifts it’s CHA prep time and book projects that are freaking me out but enough of that stress lets get on to this fun project. I thought of a cute idea when I found this little trophy in my scrapbook stash and just had to make this home decor accent or ornament (which ever you prefer) and of course share with all my blog readers. This shabby tree is really fun to make. Here are the basic supplies I used… small plastic trophy, Sisal Christmas Tree, Claudine Hellmuth Studio...

Christmas Baking

Dec 6, 2011

One of the things Ansley always looks forward to every holiday season is baking Christmas cookies… wait, let me rephrase this… me baking Christmas cookies. Each year, it is not Christmas to her unless I bake her all her favorites… Chocolate Chewies, Lemon Cookies, Pecan Sandies and Red Velvet cookies with a Hershey Kiss in the middle. The girl keeps me busy during the holidays for sure. But I love it and it makes me happy that she loves them so much. So Ansley and her cookies were the inspiration behind this card. I thought the Maya Road Heart Tart Tin Bottlecap was perfect to start with, then using Jet Black Archival Ink, I stamped the Antiquated Collection Misses’ Aprons onto grungepaper three times so I could cut out the apron from one and...

Doily Flower Brooch

Sep 10, 2011

Here is a brooch I created using a vintage doily and some Maya Road Velvet Pleat Blossoms. It looks so cute on my sweater which I plan to wear during ScrapFest… come on cool weather. I’m so looking forward to teaching classes for Maya Road, helping them with make-n-takes and a book signing each day. It’s going to be so fun surrounded by crafty, creative people. If you want to make this brooch all you need is one small vintage doily, 7 Maya Road Velvet Pleat Blossoms, Fabri-Tac and a pin back. Then just start attaching the Blossoms using the Fabri-Tac. Once the adhesive is dry attach a pin back to the back of the doily and that’s it… instant brooch. Yesterday and today I have been out junking and antiquing and the finds...

CHA Day 3

Feb 1, 2011

What a great day today was. Thank you to all my sweet friends who came by the booth to wish me a happy birthday. It was so sweet of all of you. Those of you that decided to sing happy birthday to me I thank you too even though I wanted to run and hide. It was funny and I must admit so sweet. Carolyn and Keri made me a birthday card out of one of the catalogs they got at the show. I will have to take a photo of it tomorrow so you can see… it is too cute!  Caroline and David took all the Roadies out to eat and surprised me with a wonderful brownie and singing waiter after dinner. Yes I was beet red, wanting to hide but was touched...

Velvet Flower Tutorial…

Jun 2, 2009

Here is the wall hanging I created with scraps kept from my Cocoa Daisy June Kit. I provided Tricia with a PDF of all the templates I created in this piece. If you are a subscriber she will have this available for download. The mini velvet flowers in this piece are super simple to create. All you need is scallop velvet trim (provided in the June Kit) , scissors, a sewing needle, 3 strands of embroidery floss, adhesive and a rhinestone. Cut the trim so you have 9 scallops (approximately 3.25″) thread 3 strands of embroidery floss into a sewing needle and begin gathering at one end. Continue to gather the trim along the sewing needle all the way to the opposite end of the trim Pull the embroidery floss together tightly until you have...

Cocoa Daisy Layouts…

Jun 1, 2009

I finally get to share the layouts I created using this months kit by Cocoa Daisy. As you can see the June Kit and the Add On Kit are very versatile. It was loads of fun playing the Daisy Divas once again. I used Vintage Photo Distress Ink to darken the Eyelet Cardstock. Traced a dinner plate to create the circle out of patterned paper, cut out leaves and butterflies from a piece of Webster’s Pages patterned paper using a craft knife, attached Maya Road green pom pom trim around the edge, created a scallop border using scallop scissors and a paper piercer, accented the horizontal strip with self adhesive pearls then used my sewing machine to add additional texture by sewing a straight stitch along the circle and horizontal strip. I wanted this layout...

Love you tag…

May 14, 2009

Tags are a simple way to use up your scraps. I have a terrible time throwing any size scrap piece of paper away especially if it is a vintage piece as I always think it will be perfect to accent a tag, card or embellishment. I created this “Love you” tag using scraps from vintage sheet music, an old book page and even the area from a book pages blank margin… which is perfect for typing out my sentiment and keeping with the vintage feel. Supplies Needed: Office Tag (approx. 2 3/8″ x 4.75″) Vintage Sheet Music Faux Vintage Millinery Flower Maya Road Crushed Velvet Trim (Cream) Brown & White Baker’s Twine Dresden Trim ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink (Creamy Brown) Tools Needed: Paper Trimmer Scissors Sewing Machine (optional) Tim Holtz Paper Distresser (Seriously is...

Faux Vintage Millinery Pin Tutorial…

May 7, 2009

I love anything vintage especially vintage millinery pins. I always wonder how the previous owner wore theirs… did they adorn their hat, a lapel, accent a scarf or sweater etc… so with Mother’s Day just around the corner I thought it might be fun to make one just for Mom. You could present this pin to her by attaching it onto a card, placing it into a special altered box or by attaching it to the center of a bow to include with another gift. Either way I know she will love it especially since you made it just for her. I hope you enjoy this simple tutorial of a time gone by and oh so treasured millinery pin. Supplies Needed: Sizzix Die Flower, Build A Lilac (sign up for the Sizzix newsletter, they...
