Year in Review ~ Goals

Jan 9, 2012

I’m very goal oriented and love creative challenges, so in 2011 I set two goals finish my second book without a hitch and find someone that believed in me enough to launch a very vintage stamp line. With a lot of hard work and faith by the end of the 2011 I was able to check these two goals off my list. It is such a nice feeling to set goals and see them obtained. 1. In early May, I completed my second technique based book ~ “Delight in The Seasons” this book will give you ideas to create a year of memorable holidays & celebrations and is filled with loads of inspiration. If you would like to see inside my new book please click HERE. Then scroll down to the “Selected Pages” and...

Year in Review… Techniques

Jan 3, 2012

One of the new techniques I tried and LOVED was playing with Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s stencils she designed for The Crafter’s Workshop. When I sat down at her make-n-take table at CHA summer I was a bit worried as I don’t do messy very well. I never have liked being messy for as long as I can remember and I can remember back to being around 2 1/2 to 3 years of age. So the thought of getting ink, mist, paint, modeling paste and glazes all over my hands kinda freaked me out. But I took the leap to the dark side as Julie said and I have to admit I LOVED it! Here is the proof I did get messy… not as messy as Julie gets but messy is messy whether it’s only...

Yesterday, was such a DELIGHTFUL day. The advance copy of my latest book Delight In The Seasons arrived… yes, I sat and looked at every single page feeling so accomplished. I allowed myself to soak up the excitement and joy of seeing all my hard work finally in print. I don’t do this nearly as much as I should. I’m always ok, finished that now move on to the next idea/project… And once again, F+W Media, Inc. did an incredible job turning my vision into reality. Their entire team is amazing. They help to create some of the most gorgeous books on the market. If you are wondering a bit about this book here is how they describe it on the back cover… Make Each Season Delightful! This is one of my favorite summer photos of Ansley. It was taken the summer before her freshman year of high school. All the bright colored patterned papers work perfectly with her swimsuit. I inked, punched, stitched and distressed all over this layout. The circle background is stitched to look like a summer garland and I had to add butterfly accents because what would summer be without butterflies? The distressed edges of each circle add dimension to the layout. Diamond Stickle accents added to the edges of the tags, butterflies, horizontal strip and the photos edges and mat bring on the bling which as you know, I love so much. The vertical edges of the aqua and white mat are trimmed with scallop scissors to add some interest as well as a little pop...

Summer Memento Box

May 30, 2011

Now that reveal day is over at Cocoa Daisy and what a fun time that was I might add, I can now start to show you some of the projects I created using the Cherry Soda June Main Kit and Fruit Smoothie and Chocolate Malt Add On Kits. I had a blast creating this summer memento box for Ansley. It’s perfect for her to store all her photos, souvenirs and other keepsakes from this summer. If you want to learn how to make this project, I’ll  have a tutorial in my Tips, Techniques & Tutorials online workshop posted sometime this week. I’m telling ya, Christine ROCKS the Cocoa Daisy Kits! Wishing you all a wonderful Memorial Day and thank you to all the service men and women (past and present) who bravely put their lives on...

Miniature stand

Apr 29, 2011

Well yesterday was a day of one flight disaster after another so I ended up not being able to attend Ranger U. I am so sad about it but it was out of my hands. I got to the airport, baggage checked in, through security and flight delay #1 came up, then not too longer flight delay #2 came up, not too longer after that flight delay #3 came up and then BAM flight canceled as well as all flights to Newark. I was on the phone, internet and texting trying to figure out a way to get to Newark but it was just not in the cards for me. So here I sit at home waiting for my luggage to return to me and let me just say I’m a true Texas girl...

Leaving on a jet plane…

Apr 28, 2011

I’m heading to Ranger U today and cannot wait to play all weekend with a group of friends I’ve never met, yet feel like I already know.  We have been emailing and planning for weeks. New Jersey just might not ever be the same again once we hit the streets. So while I’m gone I thought I would give you all a little something to create this weekend. “You R 2 Tweet” is now a free online workshop. I hope you have fun creating the mini banner. This is a class I taught at CHA when my book debuted at CHA-W 2010. You can use my book “Delight In The Details” to reference the techniques used in this project. The page numbers are included in the instructions. To gain access to the workshop click...

Magnetic Board and Doily

Apr 5, 2011

Here is how I plan on using the tray I found a few weeks ago at Frisco Resale. Once my scraproom is cleaned up from all the book projects being created it will find a permanent home in there until then it will sit out in the living area. The button magnets are old buttons my dad attached magnets to the back of. They work perfectly on this tray and look adorable. I plan on using this tray as an inspiration board, receipt holder and what ever else I need to not misplace at the moment. I always keep the letter from my sweet Uncle Ed near by… he always has such wonderful words of encouragement and is so proud of my book. The doily flower magnet you see at the bottom of the...

4 Chapters and 2 Promos…

Mar 31, 2011

Are in the can!!! Today, we worked it and got 13 techniques shot with 30 min. left in the day. So Jenni and I started organizing for the two technique videos I”ll be shooting tomorrow. I will be so glad when tomorrow is over. I’ve worried about shooting these videos all week long. But Jenni says it will all be okay and I have nothing to worry about. It’s so strange as I can talk to anyone, have taught at CHA, have instructed 1,000’s of make-n-takes, taught classes without any fear but pull that camera out and I freeze up. If I lose my fear of the camera tomorrow Amy Coon wont know how to act. Every time she comes to the Maya Road booth at CHA I want to just take off running...

Techniques, Food and Props…

Mar 30, 2011

Today, we were one technique short of completing all the techniques for Chapter three but it was another great day in the studio. Here is a photo of just a few of the products I used today. Jenni took me and Christine to Skyline Chili for lunch. Let me just tell ya this chili is nothing like what I’ve ever had in Texas. I had a 3-Way which is spaghetti on the bottom then chili topped with shredded cheese. And when you take a bite you need to pop 1 or 2 oyster crackers in your mouth. I know it sounds crazy but it is so good. Then once you finish you place the remaining oyster crackers in the chili so they can soak up all the liquid and eat away. YUMMY is all...

Chapter Two and Lunch…

Mar 29, 2011

It was another great day in the studio. We were able to complete the step outs for all of Chapter Two which means we’re halfway done. Completing each technique means I am that much closer to having this book in my very eager hands. I can’t wait to see it all finished. I do believe you all are going to LOVE it just as much as Delight In The Details. This is the table where all the supplies I need to recreate each of the 40 techniques in my book are placed. Yesterday this table was completely covered. It’s nice to see some empty space on it now. Each baggie is filled with supplies and marked with the chapter and technique numbers. Being organized like this helps speed up the process just a tad...

Chapter One Techniques are Done!

Mar 28, 2011

What a great day. This morning, I finally got to meet my editor Jenni Claydon in person. We’ve chatted over the phone for months so finally having a face with the voice is awesome. We headed straight to the studio to start photographing techniques for each of the 40 techniques featured in my book. It was great getting to see Christine Polomsky once again. She is so patient when taking all the step by step photographs. In this photo I’m prepping some Pink Paislee patterned papers with Diamond Stickles. You will see lots of Diamond and Platinum Stickles being used in this book. Are you surprised? Something tells me not. And way over in the background hanging on her wall are two beauty shots from  my book. I was so surprised to see them...

New Tutorials…

Mar 22, 2011

I added a few new projects to my “Tips, Techniques and Tutorials” online workshop. You will find tutorials showing you how to recreate a cute fleece flower and an adorable yarn bunny. Below are a few sneak peeks of the two projects. I’m kinda scared, ok a whole lot of scared, to paint the face on the bunny so I’m leaving it blank. Although I do think it looks cute this way. Also if you like creating for Easter, here is a code CCBF3 for my “Hippity Hop Easter Workshop“. This is a $5.00 discount and will make the cost of the workshop only $4.95. I cannot believe I leave this weekend for Cincinnati, OH for the techniques photo shoot at F+W Media. I look forward to meeting my editor Jenni in person as...

That HUGE sigh…

Mar 15, 2011

of relief you just heard came from me. I just completed my second book deadline and let me just say, it was a humdinger, but I have 45 projects completed. I’m so glad this one is behind me and everything has either been emailed or shipped. I leave for Cincinnati in a few weeks to photograph all the step by step photos for each featured technique. It will be a week of photographing during the day and writing at night but I can finally start to see the book coming together and cannot wait for it to hit the shelves. I do believe you all are going to love this book. I’m already in love with it. So after a weekend of writing for 20 hours starting Friday evening and ending Saturday then packing...

Inspirational Baubles…

Not that I don’t already have enough to keep me busy with CHA  just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to make something small to randomly hand out to a few people each day at CHA. Just little random acts of inspiration and kindness. And yes, it does involve UTEE. I tell ya this stuff is so fun. And I am so glad to hear some of you are going to wipe the dust off your jars and use yours. I got lots of email yesterday thanking me for the UTEE inspiration. Just remember I WARNED YOU… this stuff is addicting. I plan on altering 14 of these little hearts. Each one will have a different word and different embellishments. I will post a tutorial on how I made them in...

Saturday, while co-teaching the snow globe project with Trisha, Ann-Denise Anderson of Whim & Fancy Designs was teaching in the next room. I’ve loved her work for such a long time. Ann-Denise has been featured in several issues of Somerset magazine and since the moment I laid eyes on her work I’ve hoped to meet her. Our paths just never seemed to cross at the same time so you can imagine my excitement when I...
