3rd Annual Creative Retreat ~ Bellagio ~ Class 2

Nov 22, 2013

I shared a sneak peek of my “Textile Collage Sampler” a few days ago and today I’m sharing a sneak peek of my second class “Charmed Memento”. In this class I’ll show you how to take a simple wooden spool and turn it into a beautiful piece of wearable art. You’ll use pieces of linen burlap and scallop trim to cover the spool then add accents of iridescent rhinestone trim and vintage buttons. You will create a unique charm holder from copper wire that will attach to the base of the spool to display charms like a miniature handmade crocheted doily lovingly created by my mom, a vintage button, a glass bottle you fill with a bit of sand from Lake Como and a chandelier bead ready for you to add words to from a...

Sweet Darling ~ Card

Oct 16, 2013

Seam Binding and Archival Ink make for a fabulous combination. I wanted a little something different for the title of my card so I decided to stamp the wording onto seam binding. This effect reminds me of the cute satin tags I’ve seen on baby items in antique shops. And the best thing is this is a beautiful and super simple way to create unique titles for cards, tags and layouts. I mean really could it get any simpler? We are talking, ink & stamp, that’s it! The patterned paper used on this card is by Pink Paislee. It’s their Cottage Farms Collection. What I love so much about this line is that it can look vintage or modern. I tell ya, that Rebecca is so awesomely talented and super sweet. I’m thrilled that...

2014 Creative Retreat in Italy

May 18, 2013

I’m thrilled to be teaching once again for Laura McCullough at her amazing Creative Retreat in Italy, May 17-24, 2014. I will be teaching alongside Heidi Swapp, Rebecca Cross and Laura. If you are not familiar with Laura’s Italy event, let me just tell you when I taught for her last year, it was like no other I’ve ever experienced. Laura is so knowledgeable of the area it’s like having your very own personal tour guide. She knows the best places to get a great slice of pizza for lunch and hosts some of the most amazing dinners. Laura knows all the hot spots to shop and the best place to get some late night gelato. She schedules amazing sight seeing excursions but also allows you enough down time to explore the area on your own....

An Afternoon in Verona & an Evening in Venice

Oct 2, 2012

September 22nd Caroline and I along with Laura, her daughter Victoria and a group of ladies from the retreat got up early that morning to meet our driver so he could take us to Venice. Laura planned a stop in Verona so we could each lunch and site see for a bit. She named off some sites she thought we would love to see and sent everyone on their way. To which we all headed in different directions. Photos 1, 2 and 3 are photos I took in the Piazza Bra. There’s a fountain in the middle with benches and trees. You can get coffee and gelato and it has an amazing view of the Roman Arena. Photo 4 is of Juliet’s Balcony. The area was super crowded but still cool to see. Photos 5,6, 10,...

A Kiss on the Chic’s Creative Retreat ~ Bellagio Day 4

Oct 1, 2012

September 21st, was the last day of the retreat. After I taught my Antiquated Curiosities Shadow Box class Caroline and I ate lunch and headed out for a walk to go see the harbor side of Bellagio. Talk about worth every single grueling step up and down all the hills and many, many, many sets of steps. I told her I felt like I was at ultimate fat camp and the only thing instead of chocolate being dangled in front of me to keep me going was the gorgeous view around each and every turn along our path. Photo 1 is of the amazing classroom. Photo 2 is the view from the amazing classroom. Photo 3 was taken along the short walk to Babayaga where we had a wonderful Cheese Platter, Caprese Salad and Pizza....

A Kiss on the Chic’s Creative Retreat ~ Bellagio Day 3

Sep 30, 2012

September 20th, everyone got up bright and early to ride the ferry from Bellagio to Como to do some site seeing and and of course some much needed shopping.  The ferry ride down to Como was filled with beautiful sites all along to way. Photo 1 was the view of Lake Como from our front door. I loved hearing the church bells chime and watching the sun rise and highlightthe mountains. Photos 2, 3 and 4 were taken at the Ferry landing in Bellagio. It is just a short walk from the hotel and really pretty first thing in the morning. Photos 5, 6 and 7 were taken while riding the ferry down to Como. I’m not kidding when I say every single second you want to take a photo. Photos 8, 9, 10,...

A Kiss on the Chic’s Creative Retreat ~ Bellagio Day 2

Sep 29, 2012

September 19th was day 2 of the retreat for me and Caroline. Classes started at 9:30 and I instantly started photographing the classroom. It was absolutely stunning. The opened windows allowed for a gentle breeze to enter the room as well as the sounds of birds and church bells. The group of ladies who attended this retreat were wonderful, fun and full of joy. It was a true pleasure to get to know each and every one and I hope our paths cross again. Photos 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 show just how amazing the classroom was… well as amazing as I could capture it in a photo. Honestly, these do not do this room justice at all. Seeing it in person is awe inspiring. All the details from floor to ceiling...

Still Here…

Sep 10, 2012

This is my work area due to the results of one insane deadline after another which I have more approaching faster than I care to think about. I LOVE what I do and feel very fortunate to get to do it but right now, in order to keep any amount of sanity I have left, and depending on who you speak with there is a very broad spectrum to my sanity, I must surrender to the fact that I cannot do it all. So for now I will be taking a blog break and hopefully get back on schedule in a few weeks. I am heading to ScrapFest, Wednesday (need to start packing) to help Maya Road with set up for all their awesome make-n-takes, teach some workshops and host an area crop then...

The Art of Felting

Jan 11, 2012

I’ve been playing around with several new mediums lately and felting has been the latest one. It has always intrigued me and I find taking wool roving and shaping it into something is quite relaxing, that is unless your my dad. Then, well… it’s not so relaxing. I taught him and mom how to do it during their Christmas visit and he was not too impressed. He’s decided to stick to woodcarving. But I do have a star and a bird that they both completed that I’ll show you tomorrow. They did a great job. I decided to take this felted heart and cover it with small scraps of stamped muslin, linen and burlap then accent them with vintage buttons, pearls and charms. I attached two jump rings at the top of the heart...
