Altering the House

Nov 5, 2011

I feel like I’m burning the candle at both ends, right now. I’ve been working on special projects, writing instructions for three classes that I will be teaching, next weekend at The Crafty Scrapper, gathering supplies to kit for the classes and trying to finish up this Halloween Mini Album. So tonight I finished altering the house and thought I would share it now instead of waiting until Monday. I covered the majority of the chipboard house using this Halloween 2011 patterned paper by JBS Mercantile. The small sections are perfect to alter the house and pumpkin. The owl and stars on the roof are from this patterned paper. After I covered the house with patterned paper I sanded and inked the edges using a brown ink. Then I attached the patterned paper of...

Altering the Leaves

Nov 3, 2011

As you can see the album is starting to come together, but please note I do not have anything attached to the cover just yet. Everything is just sitting in place. I like seeing the stems of the leaves and pumpkins sticking out. The album still lacks all the details that makes it special but you can begin to see how the completed mini album is going to look. I’m still not sure how I want to alter the banner.. paint, ink, paper? I’ll figure it out later. Today we are altering the leaves of the coaster mini album. I find it easiest when altering something like the shape of leaves is to apply the adhesive to the chipboard piece, attach the patterned paper and then cut the piece out using a craft knife...

Altering the Pumpkins

Nov 2, 2011

Please forgive me for the last few days. I have been working on some projects that I cannot wait to share. I will be doing an online chat with A Cherry On Top, November 19th (once we have the time set I will let you know) during this chat I will finally get to reveal my secret… needless to say, I am counting down the days. So, if you want to know make sure you are all signed up at ATOC to participate in the chat. Okay, so now to altering the chipboard pumpkins with Jenni Bowlin’s awesome Halloween 2011 line. To create the pumpkin template place a piece of computer paper on top and trace over the recessed area with a stylus and cut out. For the stem portion of the pumpkin I traced...

Getting Started

Oct 27, 2011

When creating a mini album I like to cover the base pages first and build from there. Jenni Bowlin’s Halloween line reminds me of the vintage Halloween items I come across now and then when thrifting and walking around flea markets. The images on the patterned papers are awesome. Tools and Supplies Used: Glue Stick, Craft Knife, Craft Mat, Sanding Block, Glossy Accents, Maya Road 1″ Ink Pads True Black, Metallic Gold, Maya Road Glitter Licorice Black, Regal Gold, Diamond Stickles Album Cover Pages 1 and 2 Pages 3 and 4 Pages 5 and 6 Pages 7 and 8 Back Cover Once all the pages are covered I then alter the mini chipboard embellishments. I inked and glittered a cat, two trees and two maple leaves. Then I altered two mini chipboard pumpkins using...

Last day of Show and Tell

Oct 20, 2011

This “Happy Birthday” tag can be found in the Summer chapter on page 64 of Delight In The Seasons. The technique featured is on page 65. But as you know this part still remains a secret. And just so you know, having to keep all of this a secret is killing me. I cannot wait for this book to hit the shelves. I used all kinds of fun products and tools when creating this tag…. Punches and Decorative Scissors, Ink and Paint, Stickles and Glitter, Stamping and Distressing and added texture using Seam Binding and Burlap. Machine stitching with a basic straight stitch using cream thread all around the patterned paper pieces and inner edge of the tag adds the perfect finishing touch. I hope this weeks Show and Tell has given you just...

Joyful Gift Tag

Oct 19, 2011

This tag can be found on page 44 in the Spring chapter of Delight In The Seasons. The adorable chicks are from Crafty Secrets Vintage Heartwarming. I’ve always been a huge fan of their vintage images. They have a wide selection that are perfect for vintage inspired projects. The altered Maya Road Scallop Frames accent the chicks perfectly. And I was thrilled when I discovered that Jenni Bowlin’s Paint Dabbers in Chewing Gum and Soap Powder matched the Little Yellow Bicycle patterned papers so perfectly. When everything came together for this project I ended up with an adorable tag to place on a gift bag or inside a frame to use as a Spring themed piece of art. And many thanks go to the following book sponsors… Little Yellow Bicycle, Jenni Bowlin, Maya Road, Ranger, Crafty...

Winter Mittens

Oct 18, 2011

This winter project was super fun to create. As you all know, I love Winter and think mittens look so cute placed around our home during the cold winter months.  I love the homey feel they give. This project can be found in the Winter chapter on page 24 of Delight In The Seasons. Page 25 features step by step instructions and detailed photographs showing you how to recreate the featured technique. I love all the sparkle from the white iridescent glitter, red rhinestones and silver beaded trim and think the white boa feathers accent the cuff of each mitten perfectly. The boa feather cuff on each mitten reminds me of the little white hand muff I had when I was around 3 or 4 years old. I remember like it was yesterday, sitting...

So HAPPY to share…

Oct 17, 2011

Since my book has gone to print I can now share with you one of the four projects featured on the cover of Delight In The Seasons. This book has been inside my head for a very long time… I wanted one that was filled with lots of inspiration for holidays, celebrations and special occasions. I didn’t want it to be just holiday related. It’s so exciting to know this book idea will become a reality in just a few short months. Delight In The Seasons is filled with 40 techniques and 60 projects all created by me for Winter, New Year’s Day, Christmas, Valentines’ Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Spring, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Summer, Independence Day, Graduation, Birthday, Wedding, Travel, Autumn, Halloween, Grandparent’s Day, New Baby and Thanksgiving. I think you can tell...

Studio 490 and Maya Road

Jul 28, 2011

I cannot believe these are the only photos I took of Wendy’s incredible art pieces. I was in the Ranger booth several times looking at her art as well as in the Stampers Anonymous booth. But as you can see she never ever disappoints. I could look at her art over and over again and still find things I did not notice the first 100 times I looked at them. Not one detail is forgotten. I must say the door knob projects above really fascinate me. They are awesome! As you can see Wendy has lots of new Art Parts that go with her stamps. I think I’m an Art Parts kinda girl too. Just look at how cool they are. And her flowers below are just amazing. Wendy even tells you what products...

UTEE Fun

Jul 22, 2011

Gotta say, I am loving the new packaging for all the Melt Art products by Ranger. It looks so edgy and cool.  While at CHA I studied every square inch of the Ranger booth looking at all the incredible products. One of the make n takes taught by Debbie Tlach was creating this really cute ring you can see on Ranger’s blog… click here for that link and here for the step by step instructions. Great minds do think alike as I too loved Tim’s rose button from his Fanciful Flower button collection and made the very same mold using Ranger’s Mold-n-Pour back in January. His rose button is the perfect size for a ring or charm for a necklace. I used a simple silver ring base on mine because Ansley is a simple kinda...

Faux Beach Glass

Jul 6, 2011

You all know how I love UTEE, well I figured out how to make embellishments look like tumbled pieces of glass found on the beach. I wanted something that resembled a broken piece of glass from a  jar or vase that looked as though it had been tumbling and tumbling in the ocean and the rough edges smoothed by the sand… this is what I made. I love it. It looks just like old mason jar glass. I will certainly be creating more of these with different images to make into charms. And if you want to pop it up a little just add some Perfect Gold ~ Perfect Pearls and you get a nice embellishment that reminds me of vintage bowls and platters with embossed areas accented with gold. This is so super...

Just a little something…

Jun 17, 2011

I’m so proud of my oldest daughter, Terri. She is a super hard worker and doing so well in her career. I really do miss the days when she was younger with her sweet little “Roo” voice, oh how I loved it when she would say “Momma.” But I must admit, seeing her grow and achieve her goals as an adult is equally rewarding. So yesterday, I decided to play in my studio and create a little something for her to put in her cubical. As you can see it’s filled with lots of Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 and Tim Holtz Ranger goodness. Supplies Used: Art Parts Square and Rectangle Frames, Art Parts Scallop Trim, Studio 490 Botanical Art, Studio 490 Live And Make Art, Distress Crackle Paint Rock Candy, Distress Crackle Paint Tattered...

Miniature stand

Apr 29, 2011

Well yesterday was a day of one flight disaster after another so I ended up not being able to attend Ranger U. I am so sad about it but it was out of my hands. I got to the airport, baggage checked in, through security and flight delay #1 came up, then not too longer flight delay #2 came up, not too longer after that flight delay #3 came up and then BAM flight canceled as well as all flights to Newark. I was on the phone, internet and texting trying to figure out a way to get to Newark but it was just not in the cards for me. So here I sit at home waiting for my luggage to return to me and let me just say I’m a true Texas girl...

Leaving on a jet plane…

Apr 28, 2011

I’m heading to Ranger U today and cannot wait to play all weekend with a group of friends I’ve never met, yet feel like I already know.  We have been emailing and planning for weeks. New Jersey just might not ever be the same again once we hit the streets. So while I’m gone I thought I would give you all a little something to create this weekend. “You R 2 Tweet” is now a free online workshop. I hope you have fun creating the mini banner. This is a class I taught at CHA when my book debuted at CHA-W 2010. You can use my book “Delight In The Details” to reference the techniques used in this project. The page numbers are included in the instructions. To gain access to the workshop click...

My work in progress necklace

Apr 27, 2011

Remember this blog post about the Stanley Ruler Necklace. Well I’ve been adding baubles to it here and there and love how it’s coming together. I attached some Tim Holtz idea-ology Baubles and an Adornment Bird Charm as well as some keys I’ve had in my stash for quite a long time. I really like the eclectic feel of this necklace. Today, I’ll be packing for my trip to Ranger U and trying to get one more book project completed before I leave. If I do, this means I’ll only have 4 left to complete when I get home. May 9th is the final deadline then book #2 will be on it’s way to the editor....

Birthday Box

Feb 18, 2011

This is a small gift box for a special birthday someone. I think my favorite part is the vial with the candle inside and the make a wish journaling strip wrapped around it. My husband Alan was looking at me a tad bit strangely as I was burning down the candle so it would fit inside. He is not a visual person so he could not figure out what in the world I was doing. But once he saw the finished project it all made sense to him and he loved it. I really like the tissue tape bow too… it is covered in crystal coarse glitter and outlined with Platinum Stickles. Anything birthday themed has to have glitter. Ha who am I kidding, it’s more like anything I create has to have glitter....

Altered Birdhouse…

Feb 17, 2011

This altered paper mache birdhouse was so much fun to make. Every little spot has something attached to it. You’ll notice all kinds of Tim’s new products attached here and there. I must admit one of the products he sent were his new light bulbs. At first I was kinda stumped on what to do with them but then I had a “light bulb moment” sorry couldn’t help myself and started tucking them in among all the other baubles and think they worked perfectly. The light bulbs are the perfect size for the miniature projects I like to create. And that fractured doll… oh how I could have a million of them and would still want more. I love those dolls so much. You will be seeing them in future projects and classes for...

Artful Couture Tag

Feb 16, 2011

Where do I even start… this 4.25″ x 8.5″ tag is FILLED with loads of inspiration! The dress form, button and spool are part of Tim’s new Sizzix Alterations ~Sewing Room Bigz Die. Those of you who know me know I am FAR from being a “couture” girl but for some reason seeing the dress form and other items made me think couture and I thought this theme would be a fun twist. And since Tim released the hanger clips it was only too perfect… “artful couture” was it’s destiny. I like how the book page flower boa adds just a tad bit more dimension to the tag… nothing cuter than flowers made of book pages. Then accenting the spool with one of his pearl baubles finished that simple cutie off perfectly. Adding glossy...

Ranger Designer Challenge

Feb 14, 2011

I was thrilled when Ranger asked if I would be interested in creating a canvas for their Designer Challenge. I could not reply back fast enough with a very excited yes! They sent each designer a box filled with a 12 x 12 frame, Perfect Pearls and Perfect Pearl Mists and told us to create something that reflected our style. Well I knew mine had to include book pages, Platinum Stickles and glitter and once I got started I could not stop. I used loads of Ranger product and when you look at the list below you’ll realize I’m not kidding. It was so much fun to sit and just create whatever came to mind. I cut the grungepaper into squares, embossed them using my cuttlebug then sewed them all together with a zigzag...

Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers

Feb 11, 2011

I bet you were expecting another tag using Perfect Pearls? Well this one features Ranger’s Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers. When using paint I find it most inspiring to create whimsical pieces with brighter colors rather than my usual vintage style and shades. Kinda strange when I think about it. Also, did you notice I used my Canvas Album as inspiration for this tag? If you did, you are a very devoted blogger. I always find it fun to use items around my scraproom to create designs… one of the simplest things to create are polka dots with the non-bristle end of my paintbrushes. All you do is dip the end of the brush into the lid of the paintbrush and start creating dots. Clean up is super simple too. All you have to do...

Condolences and another tag…

Feb 10, 2011

First I must give my heart felt condolences to my Aunt and cousins. Yesterday, my Uncle David passed away peacefully at home. Uncle David was a quiet man yet when you talked with him he was so interesting as he could talk about all kinds of wonderful topics. Sadly, 10 years ago he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and not long after that Parkinson’s disease. Aunt Brenda cared for him at home every single day from the time of his diagnosis. Even though it is a blessing Uncle David has passed on it is still so sad and he will be missed. Aunt Brenda was a wonderful example of how family should care for family. We never heard her speak of any frustrations which I am certain there were many and we never ever heard...
