You’ve Been Grinched

Dec 5, 2014

Here’s a little something fun to do with your family, this weekend. We “Grinched” some neighbors one year in our neighborhood and had a blast. That year, we also decorated our Christmas tree super bright and funky and called it our “Grinch” tree. This is the one tree we still talk about to this day. You’ve Just Been Grinched! You’ve been selected as the recipient of this ornament. The Grinch made it especially for you. If you want to see presents under your Christmas tree, Christmas morning, you must follow his demands. 1. Hang up a copy of his festive face where all can see so you aren’t Grinched again! 2. Make or buy two ornaments. 3. Send the ornaments to two unsuspecting friends-you must include a picture of the Grinch and a copy of this letter so...

Photo Ornaments

Dec 4, 2014

These ornaments were first blogged about on December 13, 2007 and are an easy and fun ornament to make for an ornament exchange, to give as a housewarming gift using their family photo or attached to gifts for family and friends. Just one thing though, be careful… these are very fragile! I know first hand because I broke one. I think I’m going to look for some clear plastic ornaments as they will be more durable. Supplies Needed: Clear Ornaments, Transparency, Maya Road Rubons, Ribbon, Faux Snow Tools Needed: Coluzzle (circle), Scissors Instructions: Print wallet sized photos in greyscale onto transparency Cut out photo using your Coluzzle or other form of circle cutter to appropriate size for your ornament Roll up transparency and place inside of ornament (you might need to flatten it out just a bit once it is...

I really enjoy needle felting and as you can see I’ve been busy. I find creating something out of a rolled up piece of wool fun and rewarding. If you live in the DFW area and are wanting to learn needle felting Carolyn Ross (The Crafty Scrapper) and I are trying to figure out when I can teach a class. So be on the lookout. This needle felted cupcake or petit four holiday ornament is created from brown, beige, red and green wool. It measures approximately 1.75″ in width and 2″ in height. The cupcake sits in a vintage candy mold and can be found in my Etsy Shop.  Each acorn base is needle felted from wool in colors of Teal, Red, Orange, Gold, Green and Light Green then accented with a dried acorn cap. The...

Hand Stitched Ornaments

Dec 5, 2013

I love to make handmade items during the holidays. I believe it all stems from my childhood and making holiday items with my mom. For as long as I can remember she and I have made something for the holidays and these fabric ornaments are fun to create especially if you like instant gratification. I did the stitching one night and then stitched the back on the next. The images are Maya Road stamps that I stamped onto natural muslin using Archival ink. I stitched a simple outline stitch all along the images, then using a pencil, lightly wrote the name onto each ornament and hand stitched over it. Inside the butterfly I added some Diamond Stickles for a little sparkle. Once I had the images stitched I decided to use a Maya Road...

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know I have a few added pounds from mom’s awesome turkey, stuffing and desserts. After dinner everyone was stuffed and all us adults needed naps except Madelyn and Bellie, they were running around like the energizer bunny and were glued to Ansley’s hip. Madelyn and Bellie LOVE Ansley. After 50 years, mom and dad finally have a table to sit the entire family. This has been one of mom’s wishes for years and I’m so glad it finally came true. Thanksgiving dinner was a wonderful way to break it in too.  From left to right are Mom, Laren (son-in-law), Terri (daughter), Amanda (niece), Steve (Amanda’s boyfriend), Dad (Santa), Brittain (nephew), Bellie (niece), Ansley (daughter), Me and Madelyn (niece). Stylish and Fashionable ~ Card

Oct 23, 2013

I love to create mini collages on most all my projects. I get great satisfaction in combining multiple items to create a focal point on cards, tags etc. This card uses stamps from the Antiquated Collection Society Lady & Stylish and Fashionable stamp sets and patterned paper by Pink Paislee. I have a huge crush on their Cottage Farms Collection. I closely trimmed around the brooch and boot using my favorite of all times as in forever, Fiskars Coastal Craft Knife. If you have not tried this craft knife do yourself a favor and give it a try. This knife fits perfectly in my hand. To add a bit more dimension to the card, because I don’t think I can ever have enough dimension, I attached the brooch and boot to the card front...

A Shabby Christmas with Maya Road

Dec 13, 2012

Gosh it’s been a while since I last posted on my blog. I had to dust off the keys. This year, I’m making all my Christmas gifts so my still incredibly organized craftroom has had a flurry of glitter going on in it. Besides Christmas gifts it’s CHA prep time and book projects that are freaking me out but enough of that stress lets get on to this fun project. I thought of a cute idea when I found this little trophy in my scrapbook stash and just had to make this home decor accent or ornament (which ever you prefer) and of course share with all my blog readers. This shabby tree is really fun to make. Here are the basic supplies I used… small plastic trophy, Sisal Christmas Tree, Claudine Hellmuth Studio...

Reindeer Ornament

Dec 4, 2012

Isn’t this ornament cute. I love the whimsy style and think my nieces will too. So let me tell you how this ornament came about because this is NO WHERE close to being my vintage style. While cleaning and organizing my craft room I found a set of cookie stencils that I bought LAST year to do what with I have no idea but they were in the dollar bin so I grabbed them mainly for the snowflake and reindeer. Well the other day, while I was doing some serious procrastinating in the cleaning department I was looking on Pinterest and came across these really cute reindeer cookies click HERE and HERE. Inspiration hit right then and there. I thought how cute would it to be to make an ornament using the Gingerbread Man cookie...

Inspiration for a Crafty Weekend

Nov 30, 2012

Since I am cleaning out and reorganizing my craft room, this week, which is total torture but thankfully I have an awesome neighbor, Jennifer who is helping me and keeping me on task. I just keep telling myself once I’m finished it’s going to be so awesome working in it once again. These are just a portion of the empty boxes I had to go through, empty out and put stuff away. Caroline Lau is to blame for LOTS of these boxes. Anyway, I thought I would take a break and go through my blog post Archives and find some weekend inspiration for you. I plan on making all my Christmas gifts this year and if you are as well, well there might be a few things to inspire you. Sometimes it good to...

25 Day Countdown to Christmas

Nov 23, 2012

Today, I’m making a 25 day Countdown to Christmas project with my nieces Madelyn and Bellie. As you can see from the photo they are loving their new matching jammies. New flannel jammies are the best especially when you find matching ones like my mom did with a monkey print design. Ok sorry, back to the project. Both little sweet peas will decorate 12 standard sized card envelopes using stickers, self adhesive gems, then stamp the numbers needed on each of their bags. Madelyn will stamp the odd numbers and Bellie the even numbers. I will decorate envelope 25 for them to either use as a sample or for inspiration. Once all the envelopes are decorated I’ll fill each one with 2 pieces of candy and a printed strip of paper that has one...

Memories made

Dec 27, 2011

The day I became an aunt was such an amazing day. My sweet niece Amanda was the first to come along and make me an aunt. She would come and stay with me and Alan for two weeks, each summer. I would sit outside on the patio and watch her as she poured water from a little pitcher to a cup for HOURS straight or watch her play dress up, then as she got older show her how to put on make up and surprise her at a football game when she was cheering as well as many other special moments. Each time we were together we watched or talked about the movie Cinderella. We’ve watched it so many times I can honestly say, I lost count. But since it is my favorite movie...

Gentlemen’s Ornament or Gift Tag

Dec 1, 2011

I love the detail you get from the Gentlemen’s Puff stamp in the Antiquated Collection ~ Fine and Dandy Stamp Set. Each fine line in the Puff can be seen and it makes me so happy. This project can be used as an ornament for your tree to represent the men in the family or attached to a gift and used as a gift tag. The back is covered with the blank margin from a piece of vintage book page. I used two Maya Road Rectangle Foundation chipboard pieces as the base for this project. One complete rectangle front was covered with vintage sheet music. Then just the outer piece of the second rectangle was stamped using the fir tree stamp from Little Red Wagon by Pink Persimmon. I used Jet Black Archival Ink...

Ornamental Christmas PDF

Nov 23, 2011

Many of you asked if I planned to offer the “Christmas Wishes” and “Vintage Ornament Trio” classes I taught at The Crafty Scrapper as an online workshop. Well the answer is yes, but I did something a bit different this year. Instead of an online workshop where I post something each day like I usually do I (well let me clarify, Alan) created PDF’s for you to download. I took additional photos and added additional instructions to the PDF’s so it will make it easier to recreate the projects, since I’m not actually standing in front of you giving you all the instructions. Click the badge on the left to go to “Ornamental Christmas” on my “Workshops” page. The PDF downloads include step by step instructions, color photos, complete supply lists for both incorporated...
