Mini Shadow Box

Feb 19, 2014

Here is another example of creating a faux soldered border using metal foil tape and zig zag decorative scissors. I think this type of edge really completes a project beautifully. The mini shadow box is filled with one of my handmade Frozen Charlotte dolls that I altered with paint, some Maya Road Paper Posies, an Altered Maya Road Wooden Button and a punched butterfly accented with a Maya Road Rhinestone Trim piece. I cut a piece of Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 Clearly For Art Modeling Film and covered the shadow box front to keep everything in place, just another awesome use for this fun product. The patterned papers used are by Pink Paislee. Yes I do hoard this paper line. I love everything Rebecca designs. This shadow box hangs by beautiful rosary type beads and has...

Season’s Greetings Altered Hoop

Dec 16, 2013

I decided to make a fancy holiday altered hoop with this little embroidered piece I stitched using two new stamp sets by Pink Persimmon, Christmas House & Holiday Hello. I find great joy in hand stitching a bit each night. It’s a great way for me to relax as I’m usually wound up tighter than an eight day clock. This sweet holiday decor piece can either hang or sit on an easel to add a little holiday cheer to any spot. The wooden hoop measures approximately 4″ in diameter. I used Maya Road Rhinestone Trim, Fabric Tape, and Satin, Mini Gingham and Tulle Trims to alter the side and back edge of the hoop. A White Snowflake Transparency adorned with a vintage earring and a clear glass button accents the front. I hope this...

Hand Stitched Ornaments

Dec 5, 2013

I love to make handmade items during the holidays. I believe it all stems from my childhood and making holiday items with my mom. For as long as I can remember she and I have made something for the holidays and these fabric ornaments are fun to create especially if you like instant gratification. I did the stitching one night and then stitched the back on the next. The images are Maya Road stamps that I stamped onto natural muslin using Archival ink. I stitched a simple outline stitch all along the images, then using a pencil, lightly wrote the name onto each ornament and hand stitched over it. Inside the butterfly I added some Diamond Stickles for a little sparkle. Once I had the images stitched I decided to use a Maya Road...

I just listed a Scrapbook Embellishment Grab Box that comes to you filled with lots of assorted Maya Road products that’s perfect for any scrapbook or craft enthusiast and get this, SHIPPING is FREE on this item! Society Lady ~ Card

Oct 22, 2013

Today I’m showing you how to create a simple all occasion or notecard using my Antiquated Collection Society Lady stamp set. First using Coffee Archival ink stamp the image of the lady onto cardstock or patterned paper. I used a sheet from the Pink Paislee Cottage Farms line. Next, cut a piece of patterned paper slightly smaller than the front of the blank notecard.  Using a Fiskars scalloped circle punch, punch a scalloped circle into the patterned paper piece in the lower right corner as shown in the photos. Apply Platinum Stickles along the outer edge of the large patterned paper piece as well as along the edge of the punched scallop circle as shown in the photos and let dry. Trim the area around the stamped image so it is a bit larger...

Saying Goodbye

Sep 5, 2013

My last day with Maya Road was Aug. 31st, and I guess now that I’m posting this to my blog it really is official. I’m no longer a part of Maya Road but as I see it, once a Roadie always a Roadie. I’ve worked for Caroline, Deb, and the two Davids since November 2006. It’s been an amazing journey watching Maya Road grow, learning some of the ins and outs of the industry, making wonderful friends and traveling to awesome places sharing the joy I have for creating. But I have dreams and goals I want to achieve, the biggest being a product line I’ve had swirling around in my head for a long time. So now I feel it’s time I put 100% towards achieving my own goals. I’ve been in contact with a...

Keeper of Secrets & Dreams

Jul 1, 2013

The base for this altered box is Eileen Hull’s Box, Candy Drawer die. I tell ya I have a serious LOVE for Eileen’s dies and can pretty much pick her’s out without even looking at the name of the designer. After I cut the box out of mat board and assembled it I applied a thin layer of plaster all over the inner and outer areas of the drawer as well as the outer top, bottom and sides of the box. I really like the stability plaster gives to this box and when dry it resembles that of a ceramic box. Once completely dry I applied images around the box and sealed them in place with melted white bees wax pellets. I accented this Keeper of Secrets & Dreams box with lots of different...

All Occasion Card

Apr 22, 2013

This all occasion card is one I created for Maya Road to display while their product kits are being sold on HSN, tomorrow. I thought I would share a few projects using some of the products in each kit to give you a little inspiration. Caroline created I think 20 projects for the show. Talk about a crazy fast crafter. The Fabric Tape Flower Mini Canvas, Fabric Tape Mini Wreath (sharing with you tomorrow) and the Smile Mini Canvas that I shared with you last week are all projects using products from these kits. Since I’m sure you are not going to want to miss out I posted Maya Road’s time slots below, which as I understand can change at any given second so don’t hold me to it but these should be close to accurate. Beth...

Smile Mini Canvas

Apr 19, 2013

Oh goodness I gotta share some awesome tips with you today. I painted the sides of this mini canvas using Adirondack Shell Pink, once dry I found the pink was just a tad bit too pink. So I lightly applied ColorBox Creamy Brown Chalk Ink over the paint and it created the most BEAUTIFUL shade of  pink which just so happened to match the pink in the Pink Paislee Cottage Farms background paper perfectly. The next tip is if you apply ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink in Rose Coral on top of the Maya Road Mixed Blossom Mini Chipboard pieces then lightly apply Maya Road Pure White Pigment on top you create another gorgeous shade of pink that works BEAUTIFULLY with the Pink Paislee Cottage Farms patterned paper line. I just love discovering and sharing...

LISTEN UP…. Did you know Maya Road is having a guest designer call?  If you didn’t well they are and the deadline is fast approaching so get your entry in BEFORE the 16th. The great thing about this guest designer opportunity is Maya Road is not requiring the projects for your guest designer application include Maya Road products. Maya Road just wants to see how well potential guest designers create. They want to see each applicants strengths as well as how each applicant photographs their application projects. PHOTOGRAPHY will MAKE or BREAK you on this one so I highly recommend you visit the Maya Road DT blog and look at how the DT members photograph their projects.  If your projects cannot be showcased well in your photographs it really doesn’t matter how talented you...

Jenni Bowlin Studio ~ Thank U Card

Apr 12, 2013

Here is Card 2 of 4 and I must say, I think this card set is one of my favorite sets I’ve ever created. I just love the patterned papers and embellishments on each card. I’m telling you Lisa Dickinson’s Modern Mercantile line she designed for Jenni Bowlin Studio is so super inspiring. I love to create mini collages as the focal point on all my cards. A collage is not just layering and attaching paper and ephemera to a canvas it can be items of any kind grouped together, which is what I had loads of fun doing with this card. The wooden butterfly, heart pins, milk cap and resin flower make an adorable collage and the “thank u” sentiment works great to balance the collage perfectly. Creating 3D collages are wonderful ways to use...

Fabric Tape Flower Tutorial

Apr 10, 2013

Here is a really fun flower to make using Maya Road Fabric Tape in Gingham Barn Red, Ocean Blue & Floral Garden. This little flower can be used in so many different types of projects and I have a feeling this is not the last flower I will create. Wouldn’t it look cute tied to the top of a package wrapped with butcher paper then tied with any of the awesome Maya Road Twine Cording. It could even be the main flower in a boutonniere or placed inside an altered wooden spool as a decor piece… so many ideas. To begin making your flower you will need to create a petal form. Using wire cutters cut a piece of 20 gauge wire to 4 inches in length. Then about an inch from one end...

Imperfect is Perfect to me….

Mar 29, 2013

When I found this beat up old utility cart at Frisco Mercantile I could not get my hands on it fast enough. I had been walking up and down each and every aisle looking for something to put in this very spot. I knew I needed it to be a certain width and height, wanted it to be an open piece so it would not close off the room too much, look nice and it had to be large enough to hold all the items seen. Well when I stumbled onto this cart and saw that the price was $18.00 it was sold. Yes it is scratched, yes it leans a bit to one side (but it’s still level) and yes it squeaks when the wheels roll but I think it’s imperfections are what makes it...
