Bird Nest Charm

May 9, 2011

I’ve been noticing a lot of bird nest charms being created lately and thought I would give making one a try over the weekend. It’s not perfect, yet not too bad for a first attempt either. So you have a reference point this charm is about the size of a quarter. The creative process is pretty simple… just thread a bead for each child in your family onto 26 gauge wire (I used 24 gauge but think the 26 would look nicer), twist the wire near the beads to secure them in place, then just wrap the wire around and around and around the beads until you get the birds nest to the size you like. I then cut two pieces of wire to about 2 inches in length and wrapped them around the...

Happy National Scrapbook Day

May 7, 2011

What better way to celebrate NSD than with a giveaway. It’s a fun mini album to create and can be any theme you want. You get an entire sheet of Jenni Bowlin Reverse Black Stickers so the title and journaling should not be an issue. All you need to add are your photos, Glue Stick Adhesive, Foam Squares, Diamond Stickles, Black Pen, 3mm Cream Self Adhesive Pearls, Creamy Brown Ink and Basic Tools. 4 Chapters and 2 Promos…

Mar 31, 2011

Are in the can!!! Today, we worked it and got 13 techniques shot with 30 min. left in the day. So Jenni and I started organizing for the two technique videos I”ll be shooting tomorrow. I will be so glad when tomorrow is over. I’ve worried about shooting these videos all week long. But Jenni says it will all be okay and I have nothing to worry about. It’s so strange as I can talk to anyone, have taught at CHA, have instructed 1,000’s of make-n-takes, taught classes without any fear but pull that camera out and I freeze up. If I lose my fear of the camera tomorrow Amy Coon wont know how to act. Every time she comes to the Maya Road booth at CHA I want to just take off running...

Perfect Pearls Love Tag

Feb 7, 2011

I created this tag using the new Perfect Pearls Confections Kit just released at by Ranger CHA-W. If you went to Ranger’s booth you might have seen it. This new combination is so pretty and reminds me of Spring. If you would like to recreate this tag just go here and you’ll find the entire supply list and step by step instructions. I used the Tim Holtz Alterations Tattered Florals Bigz Die to make the flower. I like the look of the pearls and vintage buttons strung on 24 gauge wire. I think I might be doing this more often. And yes you can see I used UTEE on the tag. It adds just the right amount of dimension and is so simple to do. I need jars and jars and jars of this...

Gosh how fun would it be to sit at a table with these two and create… I would LOVE that! Maybe someday… here is to wishing! Saturday, while co-teaching the snow globe project with Trisha, Ann-Denise Anderson of Whim & Fancy Designs was teaching in the next room. I’ve loved her work for such a long time. Ann-Denise has been featured in several issues of Somerset magazine and since the moment I laid eyes on her work I’ve hoped to meet her. Our paths just never seemed to cross at the same time so you can imagine my excitement when I...

I am so lucky as I got to play with this kit because I am their December Guest Designer. When Christine asked me I was thrilled. What a busy week…

Nov 24, 2010

I hope you all are getting ready to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family. We will be having a very slow paced day tomorrow. This year we are staying put as we decided to do our traveling to see family for Christmas. I must admit it will be nice to just relax and not worry about entertaining or traveling. This Thanksgiving I am getting off so easy… all Ansley requested is “Stove Top” stuffing and a pumpkin pie!!! Can you believe that… Ansley is not a big turkey eater and Alan doesn’t want me to go to all the trouble of cooking for just us three. So they got major brownie points with me this Thanksgiving. I’m thinking a big pot of stew or chili will be great to eat while...

Wishing you all the best and hope to see you again soon. Each kit included three different house templates and lots of fun little goodies to use to decorate....

Memory Jar and a winner…

Oct 6, 2010

While in Mykonos I collected simple items I could use to fill a memory jar of my trip. This old sugar dispenser contains lots of wonderful memories. I picked the sugar dispenser because it reminded me of the columns I saw while touring Delos. I painted the metal top blue to remind me of all the blue on the houses and buildings. Then along the bottom of the jar I typed 2010 – Cocoa Daisy Destination – Mykonos on vintage paper to document the year and name of the event. I tied blue and white seam binding around the top of the container to remind me of all the gorgeous white buildings with blue accents. I then tied some red and white baker’s twine around it as there is always a little pop of...

I love small houses…

May 11, 2010

I could create an entire village out of this old fashioned putz style house. Really, there are so many wonderful ways to decorate this sweet little house. I have other patterns in my head to create as well but I wanted something simple this go around. I like the simplicity of the black paint against the old book page. Also the accented star… it’s a Texas thing in gold German glass glitter really adds a nice pop of color to the front. Oh and don’t forget the crystal coarse glitter, it adds the perfect amount of sparkle. Tips, Techniques and Tutorials I have been super busy creating some new technique classes to teach at The Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie. My “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” Technique Class will be taught June 12th at...

Say Say Old Playmate

Apr 6, 2010

Here is a sneak peek of my upcoming workshop, Say Say Old Playmate. I feel one is never too old to play with dolls. In this workshop you will create one doll, alter three dresses and create adorable items for her to hold. Your doll and all her belongings would look adorable kept in an altered box or hung on the wall attached (magnets are involved with this project) to a vintage tray. This way those that pass by can change her outfit or hand held embellishment. I will certainly be hanging mine in my scraproom. The cost for this online workshop is $19.95. Once registered you will have access to the private blog where you can view the complete supply list. The Crafty Scrapper will be putting together and selling a few kits....

Glittered Easter Eggs

Mar 25, 2010

I see glittered paper mache eggs all over the stores this time of year and never can allow myself to purchase them since they are so easy to recreate. I love how they sparkle when the light hits them. You can find paper mache eggs in all sizes but since I have a bag full of small ones I decided to make some mini glittered eggs. Right now it is all about me trying to use up my stash. You can create and attach a hanger to the top of each egg out of Baker’s Twine then place it on that Easter tree I keep talking about… which should just about be filled if you are making these projects. I tell ya what, if you are creating these Easter projects send me a photo...

Altered Easter Eggs

Mar 20, 2010

While cleaning out a drawer in my scraproom I found a package of 12 small (1.5″ tall) paper mache eggs. By the way, it is amazing what you find when you clean out drawers. I highly recommend you give it a try. You’ll be surprised at the things you have that you totally forgot about…  anyway, I thought some altered eggs would look really cute on my Easter tree along with the Easter Ornaments (only 1 kit left) from the class I taught at Crop-Paper-Scissors. I think a set of 6 glittered with German Glass Glitter and 6 covered with vintage sheet music and crystal coarse glitter will look adorable. The Glass Glitter and the vintage sheet music will accent the vintage postcard images perfectly and transform a plain Spring tree into an adorable...
