#BringBackOurGirls

May 12, 2014

I’ve always told my daughters that THEY are the LUCKIEST women in the world because THEY were born in the USA and have EVERY opportunity to succeed in life with hard work and determination. The story of the abducted Nigerian girls is one that sadly proves my point. The way so many girls and woman are treated in other countries is heartbreaking. Artist Jessica Sporn is putting together an auction to help raise money for a wonderful organization called Girl Rising. I am donating the mixed media canvas shown below to help raise money for this awesome cause. Girl Rising is a global campaign for girl’s education and their mission is to change the way the world values girls. Please take a few minutes to visit the website and learn about Girl Rising. If we all work together I truly believe...

I Love Downtown Chicago

Jul 15, 2012

I think Chicago is one of my favorite cities to visit and I never tire of walking downtown. The architecture, landmarks and window shopping is amazing. Getting to spend the day with Caroline, David, Laura, Ronda, Emily and Jessica made it even better. So what started out not being such a great day ended up being a blast. I love riding the train into downtown and am intrigued with how close businesses and homes are to the train. The train is literally in their backyards. I’m sure it has to be super loud but I guess they get used to it. The Civic Opera House was really pretty and walking over the river is a guaranteed beautiful view and for some reason I really like seeing all the metal beams underneath the train. I think...

I’m home…

Apr 16, 2010

It was a super fun week visiting Jessica and her family. Below is one of the photos I took while visiting and let me just say it was a week. Not only were we creating like crazy in the evenings we were also taking care of one kid with a mild case of chicken pox, one with strep throat and a 5 month old… some days we didn’t know if we were coming or going. It got so comical all we could do was laugh. Especially the day Jess called the Dr. to make an appointment to bring Jacob in due to some strange bumps on his face, turn right back around after dropping Hanna off at school to pick her up because she wasn’t feeling well, then call the Dr. to see if...

Heading home

Apr 15, 2010

Jessica and I finished our last project yesterday. I can’t believe I head home this afternoon. This was one fast paced week. The sneak peek of the sampler album uses one of the fabric flowers we made earlier in the week. I think accenting the flower with the vintage bottle cap worked out perfectly. You will be seeing more of this album in the near future. And Jessica and I thought you might enjoy this photo of our creative mess… creating is so much more fun than putting up. We made a huge mess but fun was had and that was all the...

Another day of flowers

Apr 14, 2010

Are you tired of seeing flowers? I sure hope not because Jessica and I are having a blast making them. The flowers shown below are made out of several different kinds of material. Thankfully, Jessica is the fabric queen and made the selections. If not I would still be standing in the fabric section trying to make up my mind as there were too many colors and textures. Talk about sensory overload. Honestly, it would have taken me forever… she just said, “How about these colors and textures?” And I quickly replied back with “Perfect, looks great to me.” Jessica found the tutorial on how to make these flowers on the Sew 4 Fun blog. You really need to check it out. I think you will love creating them. They are another really easy flower to create. The...

Flowers, dish towels and lemon bars

Apr 13, 2010

Okay here are some more flowers Jessica and I created. Be on the lookout for some new tutorials coming your way soon. These shown below are so fun to make. This is a zipper flower we made using a white zipper and mist. And here are the fabric flowers we created to accent Jessica’s banner. You can find the tutorial to make your own on the Sew 4 Fun blog. We made 12 flowers then made ourselves stop. We could have gone on forever. These flowers are super fun and easy to make. Notice the yellow and green seam binding… we dyed and crinkled it… another tutorial headed your way soon. The flowers are all made in the quiet of the night so during the day we do fun stuff like go to Anthropologie. I thought these dish...

You know the story…

Apr 12, 2010

“Give A Mouse A Cookie” well this is what happens when you give two friends ribbon, fabric, a sewing machine, one free hour and Rebecca Sower. Jessica and I are having a blast making these flowers. And just a little FYI… this is a great way to use up your ribbon scraps. That is if you are like me, I keep every little piece. Now I have a super cool project to use them in. Warning: These flowers are extremely addicting to make. Once you start you do not want to stop. We also created a gorgeous banner using some of the family photos I took. It took us two days to finish it and it is wonderful… yes fabric flowers on this one too… as soon as I take some photos of it I will...

This morning I’m headed to Boise to visit my friend Jessica (Maya Road roomie at CHA) and her family. I will be taking some family photos for them, spoiling the kids with homemade cookies and other not so healthy foods, creating with Jess and the kids and snuggling as much as I can on baby Ethan. Then on the 15th I leave her and Brian with all the damage from spoiling and head home. It’s gonna be a fun...

If you love CUPCAKES…

Nov 19, 2008

you need to check out this new Etsy store. My friend Jessica has a sister-in-law that is SO TALENTED. So Jessica convinced her to open up an Etsy store “Raubski”. You can purchase originals and/or reproductions at a great price. I think this is the most incredible cupcake. Look at that detail and the vibrant colors… makes me want to eat one now. Anyway, you will find others in her store like Chocolate, Striped, Blue Heart, Cherry and as you can guess my favorite is shown above “Freddie’s cupcake“. Actually I love them all and just closed my eyes and picked to see which one I would feature. The colors are so vibrant and the designs are incredible. Brenda is just now starting her store so check back often as she will be adding...
