Happy Fall Y’all

Sep 22, 2014

To celebrate the first day of autumn I picked at least a bushel of acorns from our red oak tree. I’m now in the process of removing lots of little acorn caps to add to the tops of some handmade felted acorns. I love making felted anything and find my felting inspiration seems to come more in autumn and winter. I’ll have a few sets of felted acorns in my Etsy shop soon. I plan on drying the remaining acorns and placing them around the house. It’s great being able to bring a little bit of nature inside our home and from the looks of our red oak tree this winter is not going to be pretty. The branches all the way to the tippy top are filled with 100’s and 100’s of big fat acorns....

Handmade Art Journal

Aug 21, 2014

I really love seeing all the amazing art journaling that lots of my friends do but I have issues, like serious issues when it comes to the journals. I love dimensional collage which means, I like to stick LOTS of bulky things in my art. Well, this does not work well with a lot of art journals due to the type of binding most have so the problem was solved this week by creating my own art journal. Now I can add all the bulky items I want and the art journal will still close. The thicker my art journal gets is no biggie because all I need to do is use larger binder rings. Even though I’ve used vintage items that you might not have on had to create my art journal my ideas...

To make your bracelet you will need to head to the Valentine’s day aisle to get these cute miniature cookie ornaments (on sale right now for 30% off) then head to the jewelry aisle to get this chain bracelet, some silver 2″ head pins, silver jump rings to make wire wrapped bead charms and some silver earring hooks. Reindeer Ornament

Dec 4, 2012

Isn’t this ornament cute. I love the whimsy style and think my nieces will too. So let me tell you how this ornament came about because this is NO WHERE close to being my vintage style. While cleaning and organizing my craft room I found a set of cookie stencils that I bought LAST year to do what with I have no idea but they were in the dollar bin so I grabbed them mainly for the snowflake and reindeer. Well the other day, while I was doing some serious procrastinating in the cleaning department I was looking on Pinterest and came across these really cute reindeer cookies click HERE and HERE. Inspiration hit right then and there. I thought how cute would it to be to make an ornament using the Gingerbread Man cookie...

Inspiration for a Crafty Weekend

Nov 30, 2012

Since I am cleaning out and reorganizing my craft room, this week, which is total torture but thankfully I have an awesome neighbor, Jennifer who is helping me and keeping me on task. I just keep telling myself once I’m finished it’s going to be so awesome working in it once again. These are just a portion of the empty boxes I had to go through, empty out and put stuff away. Caroline Lau is to blame for LOTS of these boxes. Anyway, I thought I would take a break and go through my blog post Archives and find some weekend inspiration for you. I plan on making all my Christmas gifts this year and if you are as well, well there might be a few things to inspire you. Sometimes it good to...

Aug 10, 2012

Tomorrow, I am participating in the Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts Grand Opening in Sherman, Texas. I will be there for a Book Signing and Demo from 11:00-1:00. I’ll be instructing those in attendance how to create a beautiful paper rose to accent a gift tag or card for any celebration or special occasion. And with just a simple change in paper color these beautiful roses are perfect for any holiday.  Come see me… it’s going to be fun! Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts 4127 N. US Highway 75 Sherman, Texas Ok, so on to today’s project. I love shadow boxes of any kind and decided to create a mini shadow box tag for one of my projects for CHA. As I started gathering Maya Road supplies I came across a Maya Road Scallop Square Basic Album...

Custom Art Journal

May 7, 2012

While at Ranger U, Dyan Reaveley taught us some super fun techniques using her dyslusions ink spray and stamps. After we finished creating our technique tags she showed us her journals (which are AMAZING) and talked about doing what feels right for us and to make it our own. Well, art journaling scares me to death! Not sure why but my goodness it sends shivers down my spine just thinking about doing it. Really it shouldn’t freak me out so much because no one has to see what I create but it does… BUT I’m determined to do it my way with a little or a lot of inspiration from Dyan. Remember, “An Artist Cannot Fail.” So while doing a little thrifting I found this cute vintage hardback book from 1909. It measures 4″...

Need some INSPIRATION

Feb 13, 2012

You need to check out the latest Maya Road Designer’s Challenge Inspiration Book. Click HERE and you will see some really super cute tags that several of the Maya Road design team members created, after Caroline gave us a 7 product challenge. And I have to show you this super cute necklace Shelley Haganman sent me for my birthday. She makes the cutest flair buttons. The flair buttons for the necklace are magnetic so I can put which ever button I feel like wearing at the moment. And I must say I do think it is all about keeping calm and glittering on. I find the glitter part easier than the calm part though… gotta be honest. If you’re not familiar with Shelley’s etsy store “A Flair for Buttons” you really need to take...

Each CHA-W Caroline gives the DT members a blank canvas and tells us to alter it as we want, she only requires that we stay true to our style and include any Maya Road products we want… it is such a fun challenge. During CHA I took photos of each  DT member’s canvas so I could share… I hope you’re ready for some amazing inspiration because this post is filled with LOTS! Old Fashioned Sampler

Jan 18, 2012

One item I always have to stop and admire when stumbled upon in antique stores and flea markets are vintage samplers. Each stitch is so lovingly placed and framed for all to see. I find them to be such an inspiring piece of art. These such items were the inspiration for the project I’m showing sneak peeks of today. Once the official Maya Road sneak peeks begin (I’ve heard Thursday is the day… fingers crossed) I’ll show the entire piece. Caroline is torturing us with this wait but it will be worth it… promise. The design team has created some amazing projects. This Square Chipboard Foundations piece is covered with vintage ledger paper and stamped with the Antiquated Collection Perfumery stamps. I accented the square using Maya Road skinny spools and white pearl flower...

Year In Review ~ UTEE

Jan 4, 2012

When I was asked to create some projects using Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE) I had no idea I would fall in love with this medium like I did. This product is endless in possibilities. I made rings and charms, altered a gift box, created a mini canvas, made faux lollipops, inspiration baubles and discovered a faux sea glass technique. This product is FUN! UTEE Rings I pressed a Tim Holtz button into Mold-n-Pour to create the flower mold and a vintage earring to create the blue polka dotted one. Once the mold was ready I removed the button and earring and filled them with UTEE. Altered Gift Box using UTEE The flower center is the same vintage earring mold I used to make the polka dot ring. The box lid is covered with...

Christmas Baking

Dec 6, 2011

One of the things Ansley always looks forward to every holiday season is baking Christmas cookies… wait, let me rephrase this… me baking Christmas cookies. Each year, it is not Christmas to her unless I bake her all her favorites… Chocolate Chewies, Lemon Cookies, Pecan Sandies and Red Velvet cookies with a Hershey Kiss in the middle. The girl keeps me busy during the holidays for sure. But I love it and it makes me happy that she loves them so much. So Ansley and her cookies were the inspiration behind this card. I thought the Maya Road Heart Tart Tin Bottlecap was perfect to start with, then using Jet Black Archival Ink, I stamped the Antiquated Collection Misses’ Aprons onto grungepaper three times so I could cut out the apron from one and...

The Big Book of Scrapbook Pages

Jun 22, 2011

Have you all seen this book in your local scrapbook or craft stores? If not, you need to look for it as it’s filled with LOADS of inspiration for every scrapbooking topic you can imagine. I was thrilled to be asked to create a few projects for the book. F+W Media included a spotlight on my book “Delight In The Details” along with my two projects. As you can see Jenni Bowlin sponsored products for these two projects. Oh how I love Jenni’s products. I certainly do have a hoarding issue with her items. If you love Jenni Bowlin products as much as I do make sure you check out her Inspiration Blog…. it’s filled with LOTS of incredible projects. Thanks for the sponsorship, Jenni. Here is a closer look at the two projects...

Magnetic Board and Doily

Apr 5, 2011

Here is how I plan on using the tray I found a few weeks ago at Frisco Resale. Once my scraproom is cleaned up from all the book projects being created it will find a permanent home in there until then it will sit out in the living area. The button magnets are old buttons my dad attached magnets to the back of. They work perfectly on this tray and look adorable. I plan on using this tray as an inspiration board, receipt holder and what ever else I need to not misplace at the moment. I always keep the letter from my sweet Uncle Ed near by… he always has such wonderful words of encouragement and is so proud of my book. The doily flower magnet you see at the bottom of the...

Spring is near…

Mar 16, 2011

This little card was created for my design team post on the Maya Road blog. If you want to see loads of inspiration you need to check out their blog. The design team creates some of the most amazing projects. With spring just around the corner I thought it would be fun to use the “Green Thumb” mini chipboard set and the “Gingham Point Blossoms” as they work perfectly together on a card. One thing I love to do is add little banners to the “Vintage Pearl Pins” it is such a quick and easy thing to do and really finishes this card beautifully. And The Girl’s Paperie “Paper Girl” line is awesome for any spring project. I love, love, love the colors and the patterns. I created the cute little bunny using a...

Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers

Feb 11, 2011

I bet you were expecting another tag using Perfect Pearls? Well this one features Ranger’s Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers. When using paint I find it most inspiring to create whimsical pieces with brighter colors rather than my usual vintage style and shades. Kinda strange when I think about it. Also, did you notice I used my Canvas Album as inspiration for this tag? If you did, you are a very devoted blogger. I always find it fun to use items around my scraproom to create designs… one of the simplest things to create are polka dots with the non-bristle end of my paintbrushes. All you do is dip the end of the brush into the lid of the paintbrush and start creating dots. Clean up is super simple too. All you have to do...

CHA Day 3

Feb 1, 2011

What a great day today was. Thank you to all my sweet friends who came by the booth to wish me a happy birthday. It was so sweet of all of you. Those of you that decided to sing happy birthday to me I thank you too even though I wanted to run and hide. It was funny and I must admit so sweet. Carolyn and Keri made me a birthday card out of one of the catalogs they got at the show. I will have to take a photo of it tomorrow so you can see… it is too cute!  Caroline and David took all the Roadies out to eat and surprised me with a wonderful brownie and singing waiter after dinner. Yes I was beet red, wanting to hide but was touched...
