Merry and Bright

Nov 27, 2013

This shadow box is created from plaster then painted and glazed with an antique wash to give it that perfect aged look. It measures approximately 5.5″ W x 7″ H x 1″ D. The outside edge of the shadow box is wrapped with vintage lace, red seam binding and accented with two vintage Christmas picks. The background of the shadow box showcases hand cut words “Merry and Bright” from vintage sheet music from the early 1920’s and a glittery snowflake with an iridescent rhinestone center. I created the doll from plaster using a mold from a vintage doll in my collection. She is hand painted with acrylic paint and given an antique wash. The dolls dress is created from antique doilies and she wears a crown made from a vintage book page sprinkled with...

New Handmade Holiday Ornaments

Nov 25, 2013

These are the latest handmade ornaments I created over the weekend. I love cold rainy days when I can just sit, listen to music and create. These cute characters are created from antique ornaments that were made in Japan. I created a mold of each one then filled them with plaster, let them dry and started painting. I think each one is adorable. And since they are all hand painted no two of the same character will ever be alike. Each ornament base is painted, has vintage sheet music from the early 1920’s and is sprinkled with glitter. Glitter and Christmas just go together and I feel makes everything so magical.  Santa’s Helper  Santa Claus  Christmas Caroler  Christmas Angel...

Jingle, Jingle, Jingle

Nov 6, 2013

The Jingles and Jingle Bell stamps from my new Antiquated Collection “Winter Girl” stamp set makes me happier than an elf on a sugar high. The jingle bell is the perfect size for holiday cards, tags, layouts, Project Life and your December Daily album. When stamped with Coffee Archival ink, reminds me of the vintage ones I see in antique shops. I used foam squares to attach mine to the card as I love dimensional cards and wanted them to resemble those found strung together and hung for the holidays. I can almost her them jingling. For DIY holiday projects please check out my etsy shop as I have several mini kits...

Stylish and Fashionable ~ Card

Oct 23, 2013

I love to create mini collages on most all my projects. I get great satisfaction in combining multiple items to create a focal point on cards, tags etc. This card uses stamps from the Antiquated Collection Society Lady & Stylish and Fashionable stamp sets and patterned paper by Pink Paislee. I have a huge crush on their Cottage Farms Collection. I closely trimmed around the brooch and boot using my favorite of all times as in forever, Fiskars Coastal Craft Knife. If you have not tried this craft knife do yourself a favor and give it a try. This knife fits perfectly in my hand. To add a bit more dimension to the card, because I don’t think I can ever have enough dimension, I attached the brooch and boot to the card front...

Home for Christmas

Aug 14, 2013

This is the second of three classes I will be teaching at Creative Cards and Crafts in Villa Park, IL ~ Oct.18th & 19th. In this Home for Christmas class I will show you how to create three old fashioned Putz style houses using patterned papers from the new Graphic45 12 Days of Christmas line. Once all three houses are built and accented with Stickles and glitter you will group them on a decorative acrylic platter covered with faux snow and sisal trees to complete a miniature winter themed neighborhood. As a bonus I will show you how easy it is to bleach sisal trees at home if you wish for yours to be off white in color. And a vintage Christmas project would not be complete without including a few vintage mercury glass...

Merry Christmas

Dec 25, 2012

I hope you and your family are all enjoying a wonderful holiday season. I certainly do wish you all the very best and happiest of holidays. Now that everyone has opened their gifts I can finally share all the projects I created this Christmas to give to my family. Today’s canvas was my gift to my dad. As you all know he is Santa and has quite a collection of Santa’s so I thought I would add to it. I’m happy to report Santa’s sitting in his recliner with his feet up and a tummy full of milk and cookies resting from all his travels during the night. I really did have a lot of fun creating this 4″ x 4″ canvas for dad. I  tried hard to make each gift I create personal....

Christmas Cookies

Dec 17, 2012

Over the weekend I baked several of our favorite Christmas cookies. I doubled up on each cookie as one batch was for us and our local friends then made another batch for family in Beaumont. Needless to say our house smelled great all weekend. In case you want to try some or all of our favorite holiday cookies I thought I’d share the recipes. This is a new cookie I created this year. Alan and I love them but Ansley not so much. They are a spice cake type cookie with white chocolate morsels mixed inside and are kinda more like a brownie textured cookie. I love spice cake as it brings back wonderful memories of my grandmother, so I thought I would try to honor her at Christmas with a spice cookie. Grammy...

A Shabby Christmas with Maya Road

Dec 13, 2012

Gosh it’s been a while since I last posted on my blog. I had to dust off the keys. This year, I’m making all my Christmas gifts so my still incredibly organized craftroom has had a flurry of glitter going on in it. Besides Christmas gifts it’s CHA prep time and book projects that are freaking me out but enough of that stress lets get on to this fun project. I thought of a cute idea when I found this little trophy in my scrapbook stash and just had to make this home decor accent or ornament (which ever you prefer) and of course share with all my blog readers. This shabby tree is really fun to make. Here are the basic supplies I used… small plastic trophy, Sisal Christmas Tree, Claudine Hellmuth Studio...

25 Day Countdown to Christmas

Nov 23, 2012

Today, I’m making a 25 day Countdown to Christmas project with my nieces Madelyn and Bellie. As you can see from the photo they are loving their new matching jammies. New flannel jammies are the best especially when you find matching ones like my mom did with a monkey print design. Ok sorry, back to the project. Both little sweet peas will decorate 12 standard sized card envelopes using stickers, self adhesive gems, then stamp the numbers needed on each of their bags. Madelyn will stamp the odd numbers and Bellie the even numbers. I will decorate envelope 25 for them to either use as a sample or for inspiration. Once all the envelopes are decorated I’ll fill each one with 2 pieces of candy and a printed strip of paper that has one...

Give Thanks…

Nov 20, 2012

If you have my book “Delight In The Seasons” you just might recognize this project as it’s featured in the Autumn Chapter on pages 104 & 105. It showcases one of my favorite techniques using Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel also known as UTEE. It’s no secret how much I love UTEE and just the other day Suze Weinberg dubbed me the new “Queen of UTEE.” THE Queen, dubbing ME the new Queen, I will certainly wear this crown proudly. If you don’t have my book… GASP, well it’s your lucky day because “Create Mixed Media” is featuring my “Give Thanks” project/technique on their website just in time for Thanksgiving. Frozen Charlotte Dolls ~ For Sale

Art Abandonment

Aug 14, 2012

As mom, dad and I left the hotel this morning I left a piece of abandoned art in the lobby. This was the third piece I left on our trip to WV and must say it is so super fun. You really need to do this… the gift of receiving an email from a recipient is so worth it. Here is an email I received from a lady who found my dream tag. Just wanted to say thank you. My name is Karen and I serve breakfast at the Holiday Inn express in White House, TN. I hope you enjoyed your stay and I was the one who found your gift and I love it. I went out and hung it from the rear view mirror in my car. I wish I knew who...

Ready for the New Year

Dec 28, 2011

I hope you all had a wonderful time with family and friends this holiday season. My mom and dad arrived at our house Christmas day and we had a blast. We all laughed, ate too much food, baked way too much and did some shopping… can’t really ask for much more than that in 2.5 days. Our tree this year designed by Ansley… hopefully, I will take it down before March, this year.  I have issues with this… Taught Mom and Dad how to create cute little felted embellishments… This quote is so true… “One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day. Don’t clean it up too quickly.” ~Andy Rooney First photo of EVERYONE together at the same time… Christmas miracle for...

Growing up with Santa

Dec 19, 2011

No matter how old Santa’s grandkids are they’re never too old to have a photo taken with Santa. This year, Laren (SIL) and Terri my oldest daughter went to Beaumont for Thanksgiving. This meant they were able to get their photo taken with Santa. It’s been several years since they’ve been able to make it down for the holidays and Mr. and Mrs. Claus were very happy to see them. This photo is of Santa and my sister Belinda’s kids… from left to right is my adorable nephew Brittain (poor boy he is the ONLY boy out of 6 grandkids), Isabella, Paw Paw Santa, Madelyn holding Grand-Dog Zeus and niece Amanda. Believe it or not this photo was the first one they took! Talk about a Christmas miracle. Even Zeusy was good and looked...
