Weekend of Family Fun

Dec 23, 2014

This past weekend, my sister and her family came up for the weekend. Her Christmas gift to Brittain was a ticket to see the Cowboys play the Colts, Sunday. It wasn’t the game Brittain was hoping for but it was a fun time spent with his mom. Since he isn’t able to go to Beaumont for Christmas I decided to have a family Christmas party for him at our house. Saturday morning, Madelyn and Bellie made snowmen out of donuts for breakfast. These were a big hit with the girls. All you need are powdered donuts, orange jelly beans for the nose and mini chocolate morsels for the mouth and eyes. A cup of hot chocolate is a great drink to go with the snowman donuts too. Saturday evening, we had our family party....

Road Trip with Madelyn Day 1

Jul 1, 2014

Last week, my niece Madelyn was visiting. Tuesday, started our insanely fun road trip. We left Frisco bright and early (7AM) to head to San Antonio. On our way we saw billboards for the Inner Space Cavern and decided that once we got to Georgetown we would stop and tour this cavern. We loved the tour and highly recommend it. It does get a bit humid and warm inside but we all felt it was worth the sweat. If you decide to take a tour make sure you are wearing running shoes. Flip flops would be a real challenge when walking into the cavern. You are walking at a slant for quite a bit, it is wet and in some areas a bit slippery. We were all glad we were wearing running shoes. Having some cold water bottles waiting for...

Walk, Eat & Shop

Mar 5, 2014

To offset all the calories Alan and I have been consuming with just one meal a day Lola has been getting some nice walks when the sun decides to show its face. My gosh, Terri and Laren live near so many amazing places to eat.  Honestly, all we can eat is one meal and I can’t even finish my entire meal. The food in Deep Ellum is so incredible. For Lunch/Dinner Alan and I went to Allgood Cafe. He had their amazing Chicken Fried Steak and I had their OMGOSH lick your plate clean Truck Stop Hot Beef Sandwich. This sandwich was so darn incredible. Their mashed potatoes are absolutely to die for too. I could only eat half of my sandwich so Alan finished it off for me. I have no idea how...

Winter Ice Storm

Dec 9, 2013

Friday, all of Frisco was covered in a blanket of ice and sleet. Thankfully, we were lucky enough to keep our electricity but lots of others were not. Since I love winter so much I had to step outside and snap some photos as the landscaping was so gorgeous enveloped in ice. There is something so calming to me being outside in the winter. I love breathing the crisp air, feeling the cold on my cheeks and my nose running from the chill in the air. Winter truly is my favorite season. During the day, I enjoyed sitting in my studio sipping hot chocolate while working and watching a little girl ice skate up and down our street with her friends running along her side. This is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone...

Imperfect is Perfect to me.…

Mar 29, 2013

When I found this beat up old utility cart at Frisco Mercantile I could not get my hands on it fast enough. I had been walking up and down each and every aisle looking for something to put in this very spot. I knew I needed it to be a certain width and height, wanted it to be an open piece so it would not close off the room too much, look nice and it had to be large enough to hold all the items seen. Well when I stumbled onto this cart and saw that the price was $18.00 it was sold. Yes it is scratched, yes it leans a bit to one side (but it’s still level) and yes it squeaks when the wheels roll but I think it’s imperfections are what makes it...

They did it!!!

Jun 5, 2012

Yes THEY, as my nephew Brittain graduated high school the night before Ansley. So my mom and dad get the grandparent’s award for sure. They went to Brittain’s graduation in Kountze, Texas Friday evening, then drove straight to Frisco to attend Ansley’s graduation, Saturday morning. They arrived at our place at 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning, slept a few hours and then bam it was graduation time all over again. Ansley and Brittain have worried about Mom Mom and Paw Paw attending their graduations since they were in the 6th grade. My mom and dad always told them they would get there one way or another and they stayed true to their promise. Brittain’s Graduation ~ Kountze High School ~ Kountze, Texas June 1, 2012 ~ 7:00 o’clock in the evening Ansley’s Graduation ~ Centennial High...

A few more finds…

Apr 6, 2011

Yesterday, I decided to head to Frisco Resale for a little thrifting. Thrifting always does the mind good when you get writers block. It’s so fun to walk around looking at things and trying to figure out different ways of using them. While I was there I found two cute glass pieces to use for holding tools and smaller embellishments. I plan on using this dish to hold micro tip scissors, tweezers and smaller tools. And this dresser dish will store lots of vintage buttons. I love that the lid is monogrammed. It adds such charm to the piece. Have you had a chance to do any thrifting lately.… if not get out and do some… it does a lot of...

Magnetic Board and Doily

Apr 5, 2011

Here is how I plan on using the tray I found a few weeks ago at Frisco Resale. Once my scraproom is cleaned up from all the book projects being created it will find a permanent home in there until then it will sit out in the living area. The button magnets are old buttons my dad attached magnets to the back of. They work perfectly on this tray and look adorable. I plan on using this tray as an inspiration board, receipt holder and what ever else I need to not misplace at the moment. I always keep the letter from my sweet Uncle Ed near by… he always has such wonderful words of encouragement and is so proud of my book. The doily flower magnet you see at the bottom of the...

Did a little Thrifting yesterday…

Mar 24, 2011

I love to shop at Frisco Resale because not only do you find awesome things but the money goes back into our community to help those in need. It’s a win, win situation. As you can see in the photo it was a good finds kinda day. I found a nice silverplated tray and plan on doing this with it. I’m on the lookout for another one as I really like how the two look together. This will be a pretty way to keep reminders and other things out in front of me. And I plan on using vintage button magnets my dad made me to attach those reminders too. They’ll work perfectly. The book I found is going to be torn and turned into this bird and paper flower wreath someday after my...

Adding to my glitter containers

Mar 17, 2011

Oh how I love to see my glitter inside these salt shakers and sugar dispenser BUT when I was in Frisco Resale not too long ago I found these adorable ceramic houses. They were only .50 a piece and were screaming TAKE ME HOME with YOU! I had to figure out what I was going to do with them as believe me I have enough little pretties here and there around the house and I do NOT need anymore. Well I was looking at the chimney on both houses and instantly thought they would be perfect for pouring and then BAM new glitter containers came to mind. Honestly, they are perfect and look so cute sitting on my shelf in my scraproom. I took these photos in our living room to get some much...

Snow day..

Feb 4, 2011

It is nice to get a snow day instead of ice days. Frisco is on day 4 of no school due to ice and snow. I do believe we got more than the 1″ they were predicting and we should get another 1″ this morning. I must admit I do love looking at it and watching the snow flakes fall but I’m sure all the people trying to arrive today for Super Bowl weekend aren’t too happy. This much snow in our area really is not good. I heard Love Field Airport is closed at the moment… yikes. Not sure about DFW. The left of our neighborhood looking out the front door. The right of our neighborhood looking out the front door. What you see when you open the back door. And our backyard....

Monday…

Sep 20, 2010

I hope your Monday was as great as mine… got up this morning, ate some fabulous Greek yogurt with pineapples, oats and honey on top then topped it off with chocolate crepes. I am certainly not starving that is for sure. After breakfast I walked around the hotel and took some photos… I love the doorways  in Mykonos. This is the doorway leading from the lobby to the patio. Here is the doorway leading out of the hotel. What you see looking out the door. Today there were 7 cruise ships in view. Love the shades they have in the window and notice the pop of red. The lobby decor here makes me want to go to IKEA. And thankfully living in Frisco I have one just around the corner. Tomorrow will be pretty...

Doing the major Happy Dance…

Mar 15, 2010

Before I dropped off all the items I was donating to Frisco Resale I decided to stop in and take a look for any old books they might have sitting around… well no books were to be found but I did score this wonderful little set.… I nearly fainted when I saw these sitting on the shelf. Seriously I could not get to them fast enough… I got all of these for under $15.00. From what I can find out this is Pink Frosted Mayfair Open Rose Depression glass. It was made in the 1930’s and I LOVE it! I plan on taking these with me when I teach and filling the bowl with German Glass Glitter, sorted buttons will be placed in the relish dish and the platter and sugar and creamer will...

Homecoming in Texas…

Oct 3, 2008

WARNING… very, very, very long post about 2.5 days in my life. Centennial High School has their homecoming game tonight. If you live in Texas you know all about the MUMS! Those of you that do not, well… girls and boys wear them… girls have these big honkin things pined to their shirts that hang almost to their ankles and boys wear a smaller version around their arms attached to a garter. Well Ansley and her boyfriend Taylor aren’t going to the dance (decided to just hang out instead) so I wasn’t really sure how all this mum stuff worked. So I asked Ansley last week to please find out for me ASAP as I needed to know the garter etiquette. Well she found out for me all right… TUESDAY night at 11! I...

A few “Getting to know you” Christmas Questions…

Dec 6, 2007

Here is a fun “Getting to know you” Christmas questionnaire. When the girls were little we opened one on Christmas eve and the rest Christmas morning, now we celebrate on Christmas Eve. I love the room dark with just the glow from our tree and a few years ago it actually snowed here on Christmas Eve.
