Need a crown, of course you do!!!

Mar 18, 2015

Saturday, I was at The Crafty Scrapper attending a birthday crop for my super sweet & awesome friend Trisha Perkins. At her party, she had Cheryl Darrow of Ten Seconds Studio come and instruct everyone on how to make leather crowns. This was WAY WAY WAY out of my comfort zone as I’m a vintage paper kinda girl and there was zero vintage paper to be found here, but let me tell you I now have a new addiction. Working with emboss-able leather is so fun and if you ever have the chance to take one of Cheryl’s crown classes do it, you will LOVE it! Cheryl brought her tools  and molds for the non-doodle calligraphy girls in the class, which as you can see I was one of those girls. Once everyone had their leather pieces embossed...

Home for Christmas

Aug 14, 2013

This is the second of three classes I will be teaching at Creative Cards and Crafts in Villa Park, IL ~ Oct.18th & 19th. In this Home for Christmas class I will show you how to create three old fashioned Putz style houses using patterned papers from the new Graphic45 12 Days of Christmas line. Once all three houses are built and accented with Stickles and glitter you will group them on a decorative acrylic platter covered with faux snow and sisal trees to complete a miniature winter themed neighborhood. As a bonus I will show you how easy it is to bleach sisal trees at home if you wish for yours to be off white in color. And a vintage Christmas project would not be complete without including a few vintage mercury glass...

Aug 13, 2013

I’ll be teaching three classes at Creative Cards and Crafts in Villa Park, IL ~ Oct. 18th & 19th. This project is just one of the three classes I’ll be teaching. In my “Quilted Memories” class you will paint and alter a 5” x 5” wooden shadow box using a beautiful butter cream colored acrylic paint and vintage sheet music. You will accent the back of the shadow box using stamps from my Antiquated Collection Line which I’ll be sharing so you can personalize the back as you wish. Inside each 1.5” square you will attach fabric pieces from a tattered and torn quilt lovingly sewn by my great great aunts. You will accent each fabric piece with items like vintage shell buttons, crocheted doilies handmade by my mom, a vintage glass vial filled with silver...

Up The Mountain

Apr 29, 2013

Colorado ~ another amazing place to add to my “Traveling Apron” sampler. Thursday, afternoon Ronda drove me to Estes Park so I could teach a few classes at Rocky Mountain Memories. Cheryl suggested that as Ronda brought me to the store she take the scenic route through the mountains and goodness am I ever so grateful for the suggestion. The views were simply amazing. I could easily trade living in the suburbs and live in the Rocky Mountains. I’ve never felt so at home in all my life. This is just one of the stops along the way to Cheryl’s store in Estes Park. The scenery was simply stunning. Every turn was truly a picture postcard view. I loved hearing all the birds singing and chirping as well as the water running down the...

Crop & Create ~ Winnipeg Recap

Apr 9, 2013

My goodness are you Canadians ever so lucky to have all the Scrapbook & Cards Today Crop & Create events available to you throughout the year. Catherine Tachdjian really knows how to put together an amazing event. There was not one little detail overlooked. Each table was draped, had a bouquet of fresh spring flowers, chocolates and an event schedule. She had make n takes for everyone to do if they wished Friday and Saturday nights, as well as an amazing dessert bar. I’m still thinking about this dessert bar. It was CRAZY insane amazing. The classes during the event were spaced nicely and every single person I met was so warm and welcoming. Truly awesome. All day Friday and Saturday, you could find Catherine and Jen at the registration table or as I thought of...

Stopping to Smell the Flowers

Aug 15, 2012

For the next 10 days I am going to do my best to unwind. Those of you who know me, know I’m wound up tighter than an 8 day clock. Well, for the next 10 days, I’m determined to unwind and not think of my “To-Do List” that is waiting for me when I get home. Although, just typing the words “To-Do List” makes my inner 8 day clock wind up. Yikes! Anyway, back to the unwinding… Yesterday, I started my day looking at this view. As my niece Madelyn calls these days… “It was a Bluebird Kinda Day”. There were hardly a cloud in the sky and it was blue, blue, blue. Yesterday, mom, dad and I drove around and did a little antiquing. I found some really awesome things for classes and...

Maya Road Mid-Release – Hexagons

May 15, 2012

Yes, I’m in love with the new Maya Road Hexagons. They come in three sizes, basically small, medium and large and some are die cut which allows you to create a nice frame on top of another as I did with the hexagon that has the vintage sheet music inside. This canvas is covered with circles punched from old ledger paper and sheet music and a few doilies here and there. Each item is attached with natural beeswax, then sealed entirely with beeswax. Each hexagon is coated with beeswax and accented with a vintage button, bingo butterfly motif and altered key. The key is inked with Adirondack Pigment Snow Cap, covered with Glossy Accents and accented with a 5mm cream colored pearl. The crocheted doily is one my mom made… I have her creating...

Me Today…

May 4, 2012

The one thing about me and my blog is I really do try hard to keep it real, honest and true. I don’t want to hide behind it and make people think my creative life is so amazing, exciting and wonderful. This industry has lots of wonderful perks and I enjoy it immensely. I know I’m blessed so please do not take this wrong and think I’m not grateful and appreciative but this industry also has LOTS of stress, frustration, at times unrealistic deadlines, a little backstabbing here and there (sad but true) and idea stealing (again sad but true). I try not to focus on the bad part, just the good and share my love of art and all things vintage. So I thought I would talk to you today, about three behind the scenes things you...

Ornamental Christmas PDF

Nov 23, 2011

Many of you asked if I planned to offer the “Christmas Wishes” and “Vintage Ornament Trio” classes I taught at The Crafty Scrapper as an online workshop. Well the answer is yes, but I did something a bit different this year. Instead of an online workshop where I post something each day like I usually do I (well let me clarify, Alan) created PDF’s for you to download. I took additional photos and added additional instructions to the PDF’s so it will make it easier to recreate the projects, since I’m not actually standing in front of you giving you all the instructions. Click the badge on the left to go to “Ornamental Christmas” on my “Workshops” page. The PDF downloads include step by step instructions, color photos, complete supply lists for both incorporated...
