Back In The Day

Aug 11, 2011

Hi there this is Caroline Lau – one of the partners at Maya Road. When Lisa asked me to post here on her blog I was first at a loss at what I would post. So I decided that I would talk about how Lisa made it onto the Maya Road team way back in 2006 during our very first (and only so far) Design Team call. I honestly had never heard of Lisa or seen her work before. Lisa was new to the world of scrapbooking back then. The first time I noticed her work was when I saw this project on Two Peas In A Bucket: Lisa had done some amazing things with our bottlecaps that I had never seen before. I was floored at the execution and details of her work....

CHA Day 2

Jul 21, 2011

It was another fun day at CHA. This afternoon I helped Caroline teach her 6 Ways To Use Maya Road Workshop. It was a wonderful class and most everyone finished their project. Then I walked the floor with Ronda looking at all the wonderful new products which will be hitting stores soon. Christine on the other hand was stuck in her hotel room sorting through all kinds of projects for the Cocoa Daisy Kits. All I can say is they are going to be AWESOME!. Today, I have to share a few photos and tell you about all the fun we had in the Crafters Workshop booth. After looking at all of Julie Balzer’s new stencils Ronda and I played with Julie and a great group of friends. We all know I’m not a get messy kinda girl...

Anniversary Card

Jul 18, 2011

I createad this card using patterned paper from my Cocoa Daisy “Urban Loft” kit and several new Maya Road release items. The new “Winter’s Roses in Houndstooth Pumpkin” goes perfectly with their new “Satin Pleat Edging in Golden Yellow” and “Ruffle Crochet Trim – Single”. I had to put a “Black Wooden Bingo Calendar Piece” inside the rose center as it fit too well to pass up. I then accented the Winter’s Rose with “Vintage Pearl and Leaf” Trinket Pins. And one can never get tired of accenting cards or projects with the “Large Daisy Vintage Trim”. I love the softness it adds to my projects. FYI: You can mist this trim with any of the solid Maya Road Mists to color coordinate it with any of your projects. To make the color permanent just heat set it...

Smile Sweet Heart Card

Jul 1, 2011

Here is a bright and cheery card I created using the Cocoa Daisy Main Kit “Urban Loft” and the “South Loop” Add On Kit. I’m loving all the bright colors and designs on these flowers and accented with self adhesive pearls which are included in the main kit, makes them even cuter. You all know how much I love pearls! Today, I will be creating with some new CHA release products for Maya Road which make me so happy, just wait until you see them… oh my goodness did Caroline and Deb ever out do themselves with this release. I think it’s my favorite ever. Then tonight, I will be editing into the wee hours of the night, again. My Aunt would cringe if she saw my sleep schedule right now it’s worse than...

Set Up Day…

Jan 28, 2011

Setting up the booth begins. Yep, all these crates contain the product you want and purchase. But before the store owners can get the CHA-W release products into their stores setting up the booth and getting all the products and show samples up for display must be done. This is certainly NOT the GLAMOROUS side of trade shows. But at least Caroline makes it as fun as possible. Sarah and Laura find the humor in lots of things during the process and make you laugh but David well… he is like a grumpy old man. The opening up of the crates… let the madness begin. David a.k.a Mr. Grumpy pants, Caroline and Laura. We just finished putting down the floor and are now getting ready to put up the walls. Walls are up and...

And the fun begins…

Jan 27, 2011

Last night we ate at this really good place called Matsui. Everything was wonderful but I soon found out along with design team member Sarah that the one thing that was not so wonderful was their Japanese tea. Yikes that was some hard stuff to drink. Needless to say the laughs started right then. Sarah is Aussie tough she drank all of hers and well I must admit Laura helped me with mine. Thank goodness. Although I could have finished it off if I had, had about 5 pounds of sugar to put in it. So note to self… when the waitress says, “this is Japanese tea” take note… it is not just like any other tea. Japanese tea is certainly a long way away from the sweet tea of the south I’m used...

feels so good and yesterday was a wonderfully productive day.. I got the make-n-take I will be teaching for F+W Media all bagged up, started gathering the extra items I need to bring to CHA and created, created, created. I finished up the inspirational baubles. Wonder who’s hands these will end up in at the show. Made this ring… Ansley is going to keep me super busy making these for her and her friends. Had an awesome mail day… Thank you cThru Ruler Company… they are a book sponsor and sent me the entire Art-C line. Talk about loads of inspiration in this box! Yikes I cannot wait to start playing with this. And then I topped the night off by making this cuff using vintage lace, cream felt and new Maya Road trims....

Jan 19, 2011

I tell ya this show seems to come faster and faster every year. But I love it as I get to reconnect with friends from all over the world. Once again I am going with Maya Road (Booth #761) and will spend most of my time doing make-n-takes in their booth as well as being harassed by David. Yes, I’m an easy target and he pulls pranks on me A LOT!!! Caroline designed all the make-n-takes for me to teach at the show and they are cute. Those attending are going to have fun making them. Here is the schedule of where I’ll be during the show. Saturday, the 29th I will be with Maya Road all day. Sunday, the 30th I will be with Maya Road until 2:00 and then with Fiskars (Booth #1323) from...

What a weekend…

Oct 3, 2010

Artistic Journey was AWESOME! I had so much fun meeting and creating with everyone and cannot wait to do this again… next year, right Caroline? Since I have so many photos to post I will not be too wordy and let the photos speak for themselves. Enjoy! Downtown Waxahachie and The Crafty Scrapper. Some of the attendees created tags prior to the event that were showcased in the storefront window… Laura was busy checking everyone in while Katie and Carolyn chatted with a few of the guests. Everyone got a goody bag filled with AWESOME products. Mary Lou and Kerri were always super busy at the register. Returning from having a group photo taken. Friday evening was filled with Make n Takes. Once everyone finished each station they had an adorable mini album to...

I have been so excited for Artistic Journey to begin and can’t believe it is finally here. These ladies are coming from all over ready to create, make new friends, shop and have fun. Friday night will be filled with make n takes and lots of laughter. Then Saturday and Sunday, I will be teaching my shadow box class along with Katie Watson and Aubrey Rives. Show Day 3

Jul 30, 2010

This one is a day late but by the time we finished breaking down the booth and eating dinner it was late and I was pooped. As you can see my day started out as usual at the make-n-take booth. People loved learning how to make medallion flowers. They loved it so much so that I taught 100 people how to make them. That is a lot of making and taking in 5  hours. Right before the show started I went to another one of my favorite manufacturers… Crafty Secrets.  They have some adorable items coming out. You will notice several projects using my friend Vicki Chrisman’s 3D shadow box frame dies and they are super cute. Their booth is filled with loads of vintage goodness. Notice the 3D Shadow Box Frame above… I...

First let me say… yes, dreams do come true… check out what Maya Road now has…. GLITTER!!!! I have begged and begged and begged for Caroline to PLEASE make GLITTER well not only she and Deb make GLITTER I actuallly got to help pick the colors. All I am going to say is it is super awesome GLITTER and if you are a glitter lover like me you will LOVE this fine glitter. So after I finished doing the happy dance we started adding all the design teams projects. Our team ROCKS… those of you attending will be so inspired aftering seeing what everyone has created. Pre CHA day 1

Jul 25, 2010

Started my day playing with this little cutie Miss Olivia. After breakfast we headed to the convention center to start putting the booth together. The blank area you see will soon be filled with lots of Maya Road goodness.  This is Laura and Aubrey working on the walls. Once it gets past the second row I am vertically challenged. Here is Laura and David with a little organized chaos going on. It is always such an accomplished feeling once we get the walls all set up. Here is some serious organized chaos.  The ribbon wall is plain torture for me… thankfully, Caroline knows this and gives this task to someone else… Laura. I have no idea how she manages to complete this task. If it were up to me to get it done CHA would be over and you...

What a bad blogger I have been…

Feb 9, 2009

As soon as I got home from CHA I hit the ground running. No time to relax for a single second. I guess I will do a little run down of what has been going on in my little neck of the woods… 1st… CHA was a blast. Going with Maya Road is always so much fun. I did loads of make n takes, gave away fun stuff and got to chat with lots of wonderful people. 2nd… As soon as I got home I had to instantly start on a layout for Memory Makers. It is going to be included in an article in the July/August issue. I am not even going to tell you what it looks like as you will know it is mine the second you see it. It uses...

A little Valentine Tutorial…

Jan 19, 2009

I guess you can tell I LOVE Maya Road. Seriously love everything Deb and Caroline make and the great thing about their products are they mix and match perfectly. I always look at their coaster albums and think they would make wonderful fabric patterns. Well needing a break from book projects yesterday I decided to use the bird pattern to create my own fabric embellishment. Talk about super EASY to make. Seriously easy. This is the first piece of fabric anything I have ever sewn. Yes I got the sewing machine to sew on paper. Anyway, I thought I would create a little tutorial thinking you might like to give this a try. Supplies Needed: 2-Ring Heart Binder (1 page) Sheer Heart Scallop Book (1 page) Heart Chipboard Book (1 page) Bird Chipboard Book...

Did you know…

Jan 9, 2009

Maya Road has a Valentine’s Day release? If you didn’t you need to check out this cute little “Love Ticket” Singleton Stamp. I love that the words are seperate stamps too, so perfect for little sentiments on tiny tags. Then they have this adorable “Forever Postage” Singleton Stamp. I really love this trio… so perfect to accent your Valentine’s or candy wrappers. They also have this wonderful Maya Mist set of Red and Silver… gorgeous colors used separately or in combination. The “Love Keychain” set is so cute and has so many possibilities for projects… no favorite here as I love each one. And last but not least they have this really cute “Key Keychain” set. This set would also be cute as embellishments for a new home or car for those of you...

Mar 9, 2008

But something tells me with one class Friday night, three classes Saturday and one class Sunday morning I’m going to be a bit crunched for time. Anyway, here is a sneak peek of one layout I created this weekend for the 2 – 12 x 12 layout class I will teach on Saturday.
