Place mat Chalkboard

Apr 18, 2011

While I was in Joann’s the other day I was looking at all the Easter items they had for 50% off and found a big stack of pastel pink, blue, green and yellow die cut place mats. I kept looking at them thinking there was something I could do with them and then it came to me… make a chalkboard out of them. So I bought a few of the place mats along with a spray can of Chalkboard Paint. Once home,  I headed to the backyard and sprayed away. After the paint has dried for 24 hours you need to rub chalk all over the dried paint and wipe it off with a dry paper towel. After doing this you can then write on it. I cut a magnetic business card in 1/4’s...

Paper Purse

Apr 14, 2011

I’ve had several emails sent my way asking how I created the paper purse in the Memory Makers Blog Bounce Creativity Blooms blog post. Below are the steps to create your own paper purse if you want. It’s easy to make. First you need to start out with a piece of paper cut to 8″ square. This is my favorite size. But the smaller your square the smaller your purse and the larger the square the larger the purse. Next fold the patterned paper in half by bringing the bottom point up to the top point. If you want a tight crease I suggest you use a bone folder. Bring the right pointed end all the way over to the left side of the triangle as shown below. Using a strong liquid adhesive attach...

Paying it forward

Mar 21, 2011

A while back I talked about paying it forward on facebook and stated if anyone wanted help in submitting I would gladly help them as I feel it’s my duty to pay it forward. I certainly did not get where I am today in this industry without a little help and guidance from others along the way. I must say it does amaze me as to how many people will not help others advance. I’m not sure if it’s insecurities on their part and feel the person might be better than them or just flat out not caring or wanting to take the time to help others. This industry certainly has room for more creative people. New people keep things fresh and exciting and I love to see fresh and exciting creations. So I...

Spring is near…

Mar 16, 2011

This little card was created for my design team post on the Maya Road blog. If you want to see loads of inspiration you need to check out their blog. The design team creates some of the most amazing projects. With spring just around the corner I thought it would be fun to use the “Green Thumb” mini chipboard set and the “Gingham Point Blossoms” as they work perfectly together on a card. One thing I love to do is add little banners to the “Vintage Pearl Pins” it is such a quick and easy thing to do and really finishes this card beautifully. And The Girl’s Paperie “Paper Girl” line is awesome for any spring project. I love, love, love the colors and the patterns. I created the cute little bunny using a...

Altered Paper Mache Book

Feb 15, 2011

This altered piece uses all brand new CHA-W release products by Tim Holtz. I was so happy to see the Fractured Doll in my box of products to design with…. I love these dolls and you get two different sized dolls per package! Next to the white seam binding I attached one of his new Chain Tassels. These are the perfect accent for a project and I love the movement of the tassel. The patterned papers used are from his new Paper Stash – Crowded Attic line. This paper line is so pretty and has designs in it for all styles. The butterflies and moths behind the Fractured Doll and among the paper flowers inside the book are from Tim’s new Salvage Stickers – Crowded Attic. I really like the butterflies and moths images....

CHA Day 3

Feb 1, 2011

What a great day today was. Thank you to all my sweet friends who came by the booth to wish me a happy birthday. It was so sweet of all of you. Those of you that decided to sing happy birthday to me I thank you too even though I wanted to run and hide. It was funny and I must admit so sweet. Carolyn and Keri made me a birthday card out of one of the catalogs they got at the show. I will have to take a photo of it tomorrow so you can see… it is too cute!  Caroline and David took all the Roadies out to eat and surprised me with a wonderful brownie and singing waiter after dinner. Yes I was beet red, wanting to hide but was touched...

What a busy week…

Nov 24, 2010

I hope you all are getting ready to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family. We will be having a very slow paced day tomorrow. This year we are staying put as we decided to do our traveling to see family for Christmas. I must admit it will be nice to just relax and not worry about entertaining or traveling. This Thanksgiving I am getting off so easy… all Ansley requested is “Stove Top” stuffing and a pumpkin pie!!! Can you believe that… Ansley is not a big turkey eater and Alan doesn’t want me to go to all the trouble of cooking for just us three. So they got major brownie points with me this Thanksgiving. I’m thinking a big pot of stew or chili will be great to eat while...

Holiday gift card holder…

Nov 21, 2010

As you all know I LOVE the holidays especially Christmas. But the one thing I really don’t like doing is giving gift cards even though I know that is what my nieces and nephew really want. I must get this from my mom as she does not like giving gift cards either. It just feels so impersonal. But we both end up buckling at the knees every year and grant them their wishes. So I decided this year I will make personalized gift card holders for everyone. It will make me feel a little bit better about handing them out. Those registered in my Tips, Techniques and Tutorials workshop will have access to the PDF of the template I used to create the gift card holder shown above. I will post it tomorrow in...

No Stress Just Work…

Oct 24, 2010

This will be my new motto told to me by a sweet friend for the next six months as I will begin working on my SECOND book tomorrow. I am so happy I have been given the chance to work with F & W Media once again. My new book will be technique based just as “Delight In The Details” but it will have step outs on how to recreate not only the techniques but ALSO some of the projects. So excited about this new twist. My first deadline is November 26th so i will be somewhat of a hermit over the next month as these projects will be for the cover and I want them over the top wonderful. Not sure if I can tell you the theme of the book just yet...

May 22, 2010

my shoulder which I must admit is making me crazier than ever… I thought I would share with you some of my favorite layouts featured in my book “Delight In The Details”. These three are all so different from each other yet super detailed and as you know I can get lost in the details. The photo of the little girl is me. It is one of my favorite baby photos.  I thought this photo was a perfect match with this paper line by Jenni Bowlin. In this layout I used my craft knife a lot. Which is most likely one of the reasons my shoulder is killing me… I love to use my craft knife and grip it so tightly. I think the light chalking on the bird and flowers makes for a...

Use your scraps…

May 12, 2010

This card was created using up some of the scraps I have been saving. Scraps make the perfect sized cards to attach to gift bags, presents or to use as enclosure cards. And with Graduations just around the corner I’m sure some of you will be needing a few cards… I say make them and keep the savings for more scrapping supplies. Instructions: Trim 3 patterned paper scraps to 2″ x 4″ Scor the left edge of the patterned paper piece that will go on top of your card a .25″ from the edge. Fold over the scored section and attach it to the patterned paper piece that is 2″ x 4″ (this will be the inside section of the card) using a strong adhesive. Sew a straight stitch along the left side of...
