Get Acquainted All Occasion Card

May 28, 2013

col·lage ~ a technique of composing a work of art by pasting on a single surface various materials not normally associated with one another, as newspaper clippings, parts of photographs, theater tickets, and fragments of an envelope. One of the reasons I love collage so much is I can assemble all the random vintage finds I discover in flea markets, thrift stores and antique shops to create one of a kind items like this card. A collage can be created as a one dimensional piece using all types of ephemera or three dimensional piece using found objects like buttons, milk caps, keys, millinery stems, etc.. This card is created using paper items, buttons, seam binding, twine and a milk cap that are all found in my Delight In The Art of Collage Kit 1 ~ Antiquated....

Petaloo Color Me Crazy & Ranger Ink Week

May 14, 2013

All this week on the Petaloo Blog, Petaloo is showcasing guest designers using their Color Me Crazy Line that have been altered with Ranger Ink products. My guest designer post isn’t until Friday so I thought I would show you a few of the other projects I created just to peek your interest until then. You can see a gorgeous card Tammy Tutterow created and has posted on their blog now. This mini canvas was a snap to create and altering the Petaloo Color Me Crazy Petites, Butterflies, Fancy Frames and Keys are easy breezy lemon squeezy when using any of the products Ranger Ink has to offer. To create this mini canvas I first covered the mini canvas using a Paris themed napkin. If you have never used designer napkins as a base for a...

Thrift Store Finds

May 8, 2013

It’s time again to share this weeks wonderful thrift store finds. I spotted this beautiful doll from across the store and seriously could not get to her fast enough. As soon as I saw her I had instant tunnel vision and was ready to start hurdling furniture if I felt it was warranted. I’m simply giddy, I love her so much. Her rust colored satin dress is a little worn in areas and her pantaloons have darkened with age but all I see is pure beauty. I’ve named her Laura and you will see her lots in blog posts. I also scored a great vintage piano book filled with beautifully aged music sheets. I cannot pass up vintage music sheets. They are one of my favorite items to use in collages. The five cute 4.5″ leaf...

Creative Play

May 3, 2013

After teaching at Cheryl’s awesome store Rocky Mountain Memories, Ronda and I had a few days of creative play and a day of major thrifting and antiquing. Oh my goodness did we ever find amazing items that I cannot wait to show you but that is for another day. Today, is all about creative play. It amuses me that Ronda and I like most of the same products just in different colors. The one thing that we are way opposite on are the liquid products… sprays, mists, paints etc. I like these but use them in a far more controlled manner. But Ronda… not Ronda she has mists and paints flying all over the place and purchases Gesso by the gallon. I had to snap the above photo of her working as it really...

Jenni Bowlin Studio ~ Thinking of U Card

Apr 15, 2013

Here is card 3 of 4. I always find it fun to surprise someone with a “Thinking of U” card. It’s such a simple to way to brighten someone’s day. And here’s a little tip for you… You can alter the Maya Road Afternoon Tea flower using Maya Mists, Inks and Distress Stains. This way you can color coordinate the flower with any project you are creating. Super fun and super easy. The Maya Road Wooden Buttons are another fun embellishment to alter. I left mine raw for this card but you can ink, mist, paint, glitter and don’t forget about adding transfer decals on them… And this is the list of all the products I used to create this card. Jenni Bowlin Studio Modern Mercantile ~ Paraphernalia, Miscellany & Etcetera,   one Maya Road Afternoon Tea...

Jenni Bowlin Studio ~ Thank U Card

Apr 12, 2013

Here is Card 2 of 4 and I must say, I think this card set is one of my favorite sets I’ve ever created. I just love the patterned papers and embellishments on each card. I’m telling you Lisa Dickinson’s Modern Mercantile line she designed for Jenni Bowlin Studio is so super inspiring. I love to create mini collages as the focal point on all my cards. A collage is not just layering and attaching paper and ephemera to a canvas it can be items of any kind grouped together, which is what I had loads of fun doing with this card. The wooden butterfly, heart pins, milk cap and resin flower make an adorable collage and the “thank u” sentiment works great to balance the collage perfectly. Creating 3D collages are wonderful ways to use...

Apr 11, 2013

It’s no secret I love Jenni Bowlin Studio products. I’ve been so lucky to have her sponsor all three of my books and have used her products since she started manufacturing items. When I saw the new line Modern Mercantile designed by Lisa Dickinson at CHA‑W I was in love. Modern Mercantile works perfectly with all of Jenni’s amazing embellishments. Today’s card is 1 of 4 that I’ll be sharing with you over the next several days. All the completed cards measure 4″ x 5.5″. Maya Road Sneak Peek ~ Wood Bird Cages

Jan 8, 2013

In between book projects, I squeezed in a little creative time to make some small CHA projects for Maya Road. I must say, I’m LOVING the new Wood Bird Cages (page 1 in the catalog) and 4″ x 6″ Card Sentiment Words Stamp Set (page 4 in the catalog). This tag was fun and pretty quick to create. I started with an Inkssentials #8 Manila Tag and covered it with Pink Paislee patterned paper. I then used the Maya Road Ornate Feathered Friends 4″ x 6″ stamp set as a background stamp (page 15 in the catalog). I then machine stitched a straight stitch all around the inside edge of the tag and distressed and inked the edges. Tip: I leave the stamps on the clear sheet as the come when purchased then ink the stamps with...

Inspiration for a Crafty Weekend

Nov 30, 2012

Since I am cleaning out and reorganizing my craft room, this week, which is total torture but thankfully I have an awesome neighbor, Jennifer who is helping me and keeping me on task. I just keep telling myself once I’m finished it’s going to be so awesome working in it once again. These are just a portion of the empty boxes I had to go through, empty out and put stuff away. Caroline Lau is to blame for LOTS of these boxes. Anyway, I thought I would take a break and go through my blog post Archives and find some weekend inspiration for you. I plan on making all my Christmas gifts this year and if you are as well, well there might be a few things to inspire you. Sometimes it good to...

Blast from the Past 2

Aug 3, 2012

Here is a layout I did in 2005 documenting Ansley going to her first “Daddy Daughter Dance.” This layout actually got picked up for publication and can be found in the JoAnn ScrapEssentials Idea Book Vol. 2. If you have this idea book this layout is featured on page 51. You can see I still love to use glossy accents and iridescent glitter. That is what I used to accent the journaling strips. Still love the journaling strip look. I still accent the edges of my paper with brown ink. Still love to use ribbon, buttons and rhinestones. Don’t use brads all that much anymore. Still love to create my own embellishments. Love using silk flowers but now would distress them with ink or paint and cover them in crystal coarse glitter. I created...

Giveaway with Pink Persimmon

May 16, 2012

Here is a beautiful tag created by Ronda Palazzari using the new Spring Release Antiquated Collection Mini Silhouettes & Monograms stamp sets. She used the Monogram alphabet letters to spell “FLY” then accented the tag using the frame and border stamps also included in the Mini Silhouettes & Monogram stamp set. For this card Ronda used the new Antiquated Collection ~ Then Comes Baby and Mini Silhouettes & Monograms stamp sets. I LOVE the vintage pram so much. I think it will make the cutest baby shower invitations, cards, tags as well as new baby cards, decor piece or tags. To create the title for the card Ronda stamped the word BABY on shrink paper using the Monograms alphabet. Too cute. And just so you know… Pink Persimmon is giving away a complete set...

A Wilton Grad Confession

Feb 29, 2012

Hi, my name is Lisa and I’m a Wilton cake decorating graduate. I’ve decorated cakes and cupcakes for years but I do have a little secret that I must share/confess. If you are in a crunch for time this cake is awesome, easy and keeps your kitchen spotless (well as spotless as it was before you started, this cake is amazing but not a miracle worker) there is no mess to clean up what so ever. So what’s the secret you ask… well, I’m super lucky that Tom Thumb (local grocery store) is just around the corner from our house. Their bakery makes an incredible fudge iced chocolate 8 in. round double layered cake. It’s only $7.99 if you use your rewards card or $11.99 if you don’t. Ansley loves it and we have been...

You are going to love them! Now I’m off to load up my car and head down to Waxahachie for some fun at The Crafty Scrapper. Featured Artist ~ Anabelle O’Malley

One thing that is so fun and exciting is seeing how others use my Antiquated Collection stamp sets. Each month I’ve asked a few people I know in the crafting industry to create anything they wish using my stamps, all I ask is they stay true to their style. When I asked Anabelle  O’Malley if she would be a featured artist I was thrilled she said yes. Just look at what she created using the Perfumery and Fine and Dandy Stamp Sets. The color scheme of her “Feel Better” card is gorgeous. I’m such a cream color kinda girl and when it is a cream tone on tone color scheme… gosh, I love it even more. And if you add rhinestones and glitter on top of that… well it’s serious love. Anabelle’s “Happy Anniversary”...

Happy Valentine’s Day

Feb 14, 2012

This sweet Valentine’s Day card was created and sent to me from my Aunt Linda. I was so surprised when I opened the envelope as I don’t think I have one item from her that is handmade, so this is a true treasure. Aunt Linda retired a few years ago and lives in Florida where she fills her days with family, friends and GRANDKIDS, gosh does she ever have fun with her grandkids. But NOW it looks like some of her time is filled creating cards and I must say her choice in stamps is fabulous. And it really made me happy to see she even used GLITTER. Thank you, Aunt Linda. I love you. I hope your day is filled with love....

Simple Stories and Maya Road

Dec 5, 2011

I hope you are ready for a fun blog hop this week. Simple Stories and Maya Road will be featuring lots of awesome projects for the holiday season all week using the Simple Stories 25 Days of Christmas line and loads of Maya Road products. Last night, I created a card that reminds me of a holiday scene from the early 1900’s. A lady and gentleman standing in front of their Christmas tree looking out the window as people pass by their home all decorated for the season or maybe watching snowflakes as they gently fall to the ground. Either way it is a magical evening for them both. The window is attached to the front of the card using foam squares to give it a bit of dimension. I attached the miniature holly...
