Altering the House

Nov 5, 2011

I feel like I’m burning the candle at both ends, right now. I’ve been working on special projects, writing instructions for three classes that I will be teaching, next weekend at The Crafty Scrapper, gathering supplies to kit for the classes and trying to finish up this Halloween Mini Album. So tonight I finished altering the house and thought I would share it now instead of waiting until Monday. I covered the majority of the chipboard house using this Halloween 2011 patterned paper by JBS Mercantile. The small sections are perfect to alter the house and pumpkin. The owl and stars on the roof are from this patterned paper. After I covered the house with patterned paper I sanded and inked the edges using a brown ink. Then I attached the patterned paper of...

Clementine Candle

Mar 23, 2011

Discovered this fun project while doing some “research” once again on Pinterest. And since Clementines are out right now I thought I would share my find with you. If you want to impress the little ones you need to try this but don’t even bother on the teenagers as frankly I think there is very little you can do to impress them at the moment. I just got a cool and then that look. You know the one that says, “Like really mom, is this what you did all day”. Do you know what look I am talking about? Supplies Needed: Clementine, Olive Oil, Knife, Matches Using a knife carefully cut all around the Clementine horizontally. You want to cut just enough so you feel the meat part of the Clementine with the knife....

Birthday Box

Feb 18, 2011

This is a small gift box for a special birthday someone. I think my favorite part is the vial with the candle inside and the make a wish journaling strip wrapped around it. My husband Alan was looking at me a tad bit strangely as I was burning down the candle so it would fit inside. He is not a visual person so he could not figure out what in the world I was doing. But once he saw the finished project it all made sense to him and he loved it. I really like the tissue tape bow too… it is covered in crystal coarse glitter and outlined with Platinum Stickles. Anything birthday themed has to have glitter. Ha who am I kidding, it’s more like anything I create has to have glitter....

Organza Flower Pin

Aug 27, 2010

I found these three rolls of organza at JoAnns for $2.50 a piece. I love the fall colors and as soon as I saw them I thought they would make a gorgeous accent for a fall sweater, shirt or even a headband. This flower is super easy to make BUT you must take EXTREME CAUTION when using the candle to melt the edges. The organza trim will go up in flames if you hold it in one place too long… believe me when I tell you this… I am experienced. Yes my first attempt went up in flames but fearing this might happen I first filled the kitchen sink with water, placed my candle next to the sink and carefully started melting the edges so I thought… before I knew it dear husband is...

These things make me smile…

Aug 19, 2010

I thought I would show you a few more things from around my scraproom. I just love old and new mixed together… although what I am going to be showing is mostly old… also, I find it fun to decorate my scraproom with items I have found with other people while digging in antique stores or thrift shops… makes me think of them a lot when I use the products I have stored in dishes etc. I have used these two candle holders for years to fill with candy hearts for Valentines Day or snow for Christmas but now they will be filled with vintage buttons of every kind. Oh how these make me happy sitting right on my worktable at arms reach. I always think of me and dad scooping out and counting ...

Another this and that post…

Jun 5, 2009

If you love vintage items then you need to check out the etsy store Paper Tales. They were lucky enough to get to dig in an old warehouse full of vintage items. Each day it seems Cass and Laura add new items to their store that I want and I’m sure you will too. If you tell them Lisa sent you they will add a little surprise with your order. I also discovered Scrap-Diner has two new paper lines that I love and think are adorable. Cosmo Cricket Early Bird and October Afternoon Cherry Hill. It is going to be a great mail day for me pretty soon. I can’t wait to play with these two lines. Remember my votive tutorial? FaveCrafts created a DIY Wedding eBook that includes my altered votive candle holder tutorial and LOTS...

Happy Birthday Sweet Pea…

Apr 23, 2009

We are celebrating a big birthday today. Terri turns 21 years old. I first saw this altered cupcake box on Ranjini’s blog many many months ago. She found the cupcake box at Tuesday Morning. I immediately ran to ours to see if they had some and I got lucky. They had two left which I immediately grabbed as I knew I would be using them as money holders for Terri’s 21st and Ansley’s Sweet 16 next year. The box is quite plain but has such potential for altering. The candle is held on by a magnet although I attached mine to the top permanently. Below is what it looks like before a little vintage sheet music, book page flowers, pearls, lace and glitter have been added. Enjoy your day Terri. We love you...

Need a quick and inexpensive gift…

Oct 27, 2007

I placed the sheet of rubons onto my paper cutter horizontally then cut 2 strips 1.75″ wide, wrapped one strip of rubons around the candle holder and applied the rubons, wrapped the second strip of rubons around the candle holder and applied…

Candle Holder Decoration

Oct 26, 2007

I wanted to spiff up my candle holder for the upcoming holidays and thought a page from the Sheer Crown Coaster Album would be perfect so I glittered, painted, tied and glued and in a few hours this is what I created.
