Nominate a Kid ~ Winner

Jul 29, 2013

I tell ya this auntie is one tired auntie. I enjoyed every single minute spent with those two sweet nieces of mine. Bellie went home Saturday, and all day Sunday I was dragging. That is after noon because I slept until NOON! Totally crazy. I had a wonderful time with them doing crafts and making fun snacks and if you have kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, kids of family friends or heck even neighborhood kids you have got to make Rainbow Spaghetti. Both Madelyn and Bellie thought it was the greatest thing ever, every kid should have at least one meal in their life be Rainbow Spaghetti. I also enjoyed sharing with you all the fun things we did during their stay. I have all the fun crafts and food fun snacks we created pinned...

Kids Week 2 Day 1

Jul 22, 2013

This week it’s Bellie’s turn to visit us for a little fun and spoiling. She and Madelyn’s personalities are so opposite. I can only imagine what Bellie is going to want to make and do. Bellie starts each day drawing as she eats her breakfast. This kid loves to draw. She always has a pencil and sketch pad close by and I love looking at her doodles and drawings. Kids art is the best. Which reminds me don’t forget to nominate a kid for a chance to receive a free “Kids Crafts” art box HERE. While looking for things to make with the girls during their visit I found this cute “Glow Bug” idea on Pinterest. I thought Bellie would love making one and I was right! The only plastic Easter egg I could find around...

Jul 19, 2013

Tomorrow, Alan and I go to pick up our youngest niece Bellie. It’s her turn to come and visit us for a week of fun and spoiling. This means all next week it will be Kids Week 2, on my blog and I’ll be posting all the fun crafty & arty things Bellie and I do in my studio. I had a blast with Madelyn during Kids Week 1. As I was getting all the arts and crafts supplies ready for Bellie I thought it would be fun for my bloggers to nominate a child for a free “Kids Crafts” art box. If you know of a child between the ages of 6 and 10 that would love to receive a box of arts & crafts goodies in the mail please nominate him or...

Jul 8, 2013

This week my super sweet amazingly awesome 10 year old niece Madelyn is visiting. We have so many fun things planned to do each day that we decided we would share them all week long. We will be doing things like Painting with Candy, making Flip Flop & Sundae Cookies, Decorating Jumbo Marshmallows, making Rainbow Colored Spaghetti, drinking Fish Bowl Punch, creating Plaster Cupcakes, designing a Fairy Doll, making our own Custom Nail Polish, making Bracelets and Charms and anything else we can think up or find on Pinterest. I’m telling you it’s going to be an awesome week I have a Pinterest Board titled “Things to do with my nieces” if you want to check out the board. I pinned things I thought both Madelyn (10) and Bellie (6) might like to do...

Keeper of Secrets & Dreams

Jul 1, 2013

The base for this altered box is Eileen Hull’s Box, Candy Drawer die. I tell ya I have a serious LOVE for Eileen’s dies and can pretty much pick her’s out without even looking at the name of the designer. After I cut the box out of mat board and assembled it I applied a thin layer of plaster all over the inner and outer areas of the drawer as well as the outer top, bottom and sides of the box. I really like the stability plaster gives to this box and when dry it resembles that of a ceramic box. Once completely dry I applied images around the box and sealed them in place with melted white bees wax pellets. I accented this Keeper of Secrets & Dreams box with lots of different...

Bees Wax Tools & Tips

Jun 21, 2013

Bees Wax is a medium I really enjoy creating with and if you are thinking about giving it a try I thought I would share some tips. First, if you are new to this medium there really is no need to go out and purchase expensive encaustic supplies right off, if you find out you love working with wax then you can begin adding high end encaustic wax and tools. But for what I do the tools I’m going to tell you about work perfectly. Insert here… husband clapping hands and doing a little happy dance. The heat tools I use are a Non-Stick Craft Sheet (always work on a Non-Stick Craft Sheet), Heat It Craft Tool, Melting Pot, Clover Quilting Iron and a Walnut Hallow Wood Burning Set. As far as wax, I...

Thrift Store Finds

May 8, 2013

It’s time again to share this weeks wonderful thrift store finds. I spotted this beautiful doll from across the store and seriously could not get to her fast enough. As soon as I saw her I had instant tunnel vision and was ready to start hurdling furniture if I felt it was warranted. I’m simply giddy, I love her so much. Her rust colored satin dress is a little worn in areas and her pantaloons have darkened with age but all I see is pure beauty. I’ve named her Laura and you will see her lots in blog posts. I also scored a great vintage piano book filled with beautifully aged music sheets. I cannot pass up vintage music sheets. They are one of my favorite items to use in collages. The five cute 4.5″ leaf...

Thrift Store Finds ~ Storage & Photo Props

Apr 26, 2013

It’s no secret how much I love thrift store finds and the thrill of the hunt, I wish I could bottle up that feeling.  When scouring the shelves for items to use as storage and photo props I usually have no clue what I’m looking but when I find something I like I grab it. I don’t think I will ever have enough salt & pepper shakers on hand. They are perfect for storing glass glitter or filling with vintage buttons. I have an idea in my head right now using them as a base for a project that I cannot wait to start working on. I hope it comes out as well as I have it pictured in my head. I’ll let you know when it’s finished. The refrigerator box is perfect for...

Imperfect is Perfect to me….

Mar 29, 2013

When I found this beat up old utility cart at Frisco Mercantile I could not get my hands on it fast enough. I had been walking up and down each and every aisle looking for something to put in this very spot. I knew I needed it to be a certain width and height, wanted it to be an open piece so it would not close off the room too much, look nice and it had to be large enough to hold all the items seen. Well when I stumbled onto this cart and saw that the price was $18.00 it was sold. Yes it is scratched, yes it leans a bit to one side (but it’s still level) and yes it squeaks when the wheels roll but I think it’s imperfections are what makes it...

Studio Accents

Mar 28, 2013

Some of you emailed me asking to see a few things closer up so here ya go. I find it fun to add personal touches to my work area and when you are a collector of many things like I am it’s easy to do. These are a few little figurines I’ve collected from Goodwill and other Thrift Stores. I enjoy tucking them (that is until I have to dust them) in among other decor items. I think of them as little unexpected surprises.  The two smaller photos are of figurines sitting on the pie crust table. I have the squirrel positioned so it is hiding behind the berry basket filled with adhesives yet peeking out from in front of a chair. This is how my brother’s trumpet, old homestead Clorox bottle and farming...

Studio Makeover ~ Part 2

Mar 27, 2013

I am so close to being finished with my studio makeover. I just need to hang the curtains over the shelving unit to the left, find a small piece for additional storage to put up on the shelves along the wall on the far left then hang some vintage photos I have and bam… it’s done. I’m really loving the mix of all the things I love with my supplies. To me, personal touches are what make a room warm and inviting.  So let me give you a close up tour and show you how I combined personal treasures and vintage finds among my crafty products. This is what I see when sitting at my work table. I’m using a berry basket to hold my adhesives, a mini pie tin works perfectly for my...

Christmas Cookies

Dec 17, 2012

Over the weekend I baked several of our favorite Christmas cookies. I doubled up on each cookie as one batch was for us and our local friends then made another batch for family in Beaumont. Needless to say our house smelled great all weekend. In case you want to try some or all of our favorite holiday cookies I thought I’d share the recipes. This is a new cookie I created this year. Alan and I love them but Ansley not so much. They are a spice cake type cookie with white chocolate morsels mixed inside and are kinda more like a brownie textured cookie. I love spice cake as it brings back wonderful memories of my grandmother, so I thought I would try to honor her at Christmas with a spice cookie. Grammy...

So much countdown fun

Dec 14, 2012

I’ve really enjoyed getting nightly photos of my nieces Madelyn and Bellie enjoying their 25 Day Countdown to Christmas activity. They are loving everything I’ve included so far. Each night is a surprise for all me and them as I don’t know the order in which Belinda has them doing their activity. Warning… this is a very heavy photo blog post but I really want to share their fun with far away family so I hope you don’t mind it not being crafty today. Madelyn and Bellie were making their Christmas cards, this night. I can only imagine how they decorated them because both love anything that has to do with art. Here they had a blast making paper chain garlands. This is such a fun, simple old fashioned decoration to make that brings...

25 Day Countdown to Christmas

Nov 23, 2012

Today, I’m making a 25 day Countdown to Christmas project with my nieces Madelyn and Bellie. As you can see from the photo they are loving their new matching jammies. New flannel jammies are the best especially when you find matching ones like my mom did with a monkey print design. Ok sorry, back to the project. Both little sweet peas will decorate 12 standard sized card envelopes using stickers, self adhesive gems, then stamp the numbers needed on each of their bags. Madelyn will stamp the odd numbers and Bellie the even numbers. I will decorate envelope 25 for them to either use as a sample or for inspiration. Once all the envelopes are decorated I’ll fill each one with 2 pieces of candy and a printed strip of paper that has one...
