Handmade Art Journal

Aug 21, 2014

I really love seeing all the amazing art journaling that lots of my friends do but I have issues, like serious issues when it comes to the journals. I love dimensional collage which means, I like to stick LOTS of bulky things in my art. Well, this does not work well with a lot of art journals due to the type of binding most have so the problem was solved this week by creating my own art journal. Now I can add all the bulky items I want and the art journal will still close. The thicker my art journal gets is no biggie because all I need to do is use larger binder rings. Even though I’ve used vintage items that you might not have on had to create my art journal my ideas...

Rocky Mountain Memories ~ Artist Flood Relief

Jun 20, 2014

Last September Colorado was really hit hard with unexpected flash floods.  Dams broke, roads were washed out, rivers took control, and lives were lost.  It’s just so devastating.  Complete towns were evacuated, lives lost, people unaccounted for, homes & businesses demolished. Rocky Mountain Memories is hosting a silent auction to help Crossroads Ministries. This non-profit organization has provided a total of 725 flood relief assists but their funds are depleting.  Any assistance would be appreciated. Up for auction are many great pieces from various artists. I’ve donated autographed copies of  all three of my books Delight In The Details, Delight In The Seasons and Delight In The Art of Collage, plus several other items.   This shabby chic birdhouse was shared on my blog in July of last year. If you want to read how I created it...

Drying Flowers

May 6, 2014

Sadly, my violas are getting to the end of their peak blooming season. I love violas and these have brought me great joy all winter. I can’t stand the thought of tossing them out so I decided to snip off all the blooms and dry them for future art and jewelry projects. Pressing and drying these tiny flowers is so easy to do. All you need are several sheets of wax paper, some heavy books and 7 days of patience. Since violas are so small 7 days is all you need to wait. If you are pressing larger flowers depending on the size it can take up to 4 weeks. To press/dry my violas I lined them on a sheet of wax paper then covered them with another piece of wax paper and placed some heavy books on top. So...

Decoupage Papier-Mache

Jan 9, 2014

This project is one you will find in Delight In The Art of Collage Chapter Four ~ Paper on pages 112 – 115. It is a fun technique that creates awesome results. I was so happy to see CreateMixedMedia.com and North Light Books offer it as a free online tutorial. The papier-mâché bird on this canvas is actually half of a decorative box. When I found the package of three bird boxes, I saw six birds that I could alter in all kinds of different ways. I decided to decoupage, paint and stamp this one, but I have ideas to cover the others with fabric, mists, modeling paste and glitter. Just because an item is meant for one thing doesn’t mean that’s how you have to use it. If you want to create your...

Delight In The Art of Collage ~ Giveaway

Jan 3, 2014

Last week, I received copies of my latest book Delight In The Art of Collage. Yes, serious happy dance is going on in my house because it means I can help one lucky blog winner complete their Delight Trilogy. It still blows my mind when I think about having written and created three books. We are talking 200 projects and about 70,000 words. This is a lot of creating and a lot of creative information. The crazy thing is I would like to do another book with plaster but this is still just in the “I think I want to do it, not I have to do this or I’m gonna bust stage”. For a chance to win a copy of Delight In The Art of Collage read the info at the bottom of...

Delight In The Art of Collage

Mar 19, 2013

It’s the name of my new baby, book 3!!! I am so happy to finally be able to share the title AND a few sneak peeks from each chapter. I’ve worked my tail feathers off on this one as it really pushed me creatively into a new direction that I truly love. My editor Kristin Conlin was with me all the way on the crazy emotional roller coaster of writing and creating a book. Believe me it’s one long emotional roller coaster too. Some days I was nearly in tears, which I quickly told myself to suck it up buttercup, to being super happy from wonderful feedback she’d heard. It’s crazy. Delight In The Art of Collage is a collection of Assemblage, Mixed Media, Techniques and Projects. As you know, I get bored easily...

So much countdown fun

Dec 14, 2012

I’ve really enjoyed getting nightly photos of my nieces Madelyn and Bellie enjoying their 25 Day Countdown to Christmas activity. They are loving everything I’ve included so far. Each night is a surprise for all me and them as I don’t know the order in which Belinda has them doing their activity. Warning… this is a very heavy photo blog post but I really want to share their fun with far away family so I hope you don’t mind it not being crafty today. Madelyn and Bellie were making their Christmas cards, this night. I can only imagine how they decorated them because both love anything that has to do with art. Here they had a blast making paper chain garlands. This is such a fun, simple old fashioned decoration to make that brings...

25 Day Countdown to Christmas

Nov 23, 2012

Today, I’m making a 25 day Countdown to Christmas project with my nieces Madelyn and Bellie. As you can see from the photo they are loving their new matching jammies. New flannel jammies are the best especially when you find matching ones like my mom did with a monkey print design. Ok sorry, back to the project. Both little sweet peas will decorate 12 standard sized card envelopes using stickers, self adhesive gems, then stamp the numbers needed on each of their bags. Madelyn will stamp the odd numbers and Bellie the even numbers. I will decorate envelope 25 for them to either use as a sample or for inspiration. Once all the envelopes are decorated I’ll fill each one with 2 pieces of candy and a printed strip of paper that has one...

Her employees are all so wonderful, her endless supply of amazing product is mind blowing and well Carolyn is pretty wonderful herself. Her son Denton is such a sweetheart. He gave me  flowers that were sprayed with a light dusting of glitter. How sweet was that! He can do no wrong in my eyes. I love that little boy something fierce. Caroline even drove down to be there which was really appreciated....
