Weekend of Family Fun

Dec 23, 2014

This past weekend, my sister and her family came up for the weekend. Her Christmas gift to Brittain was a ticket to see the Cowboys play the Colts, Sunday. It wasn’t the game Brittain was hoping for but it was a fun time spent with his mom. Since he isn’t able to go to Beaumont for Christmas I decided to have a family Christmas party for him at our house. Saturday morning, Madelyn and Bellie made snowmen out of donuts for breakfast. These were a big hit with the girls. All you need are powdered donuts, orange jelly beans for the nose and mini chocolate morsels for the mouth and eyes. A cup of hot chocolate is a great drink to go with the snowman donuts too. Saturday evening, we had our family party....

Teeny Tiny Needle Felted Terrarium

Oct 20, 2014

I’ve been in Beaumont helping mom and dad with a few of their aches and pains these past few weeks so while I’m sitting in the evenings I’ve been doing some needle felting. Over the weekend, I decided to give it a go at making a teeny tiny terrarium. The jar for this terrarium is only 2″ x 2″. Which means the mushrooms and gnome house are really tiny. The tallest mushroom measures 1″ and the gnome house is only .75″ and I LOVE the teeny tiny acorn cap used as the roof. Mom and dad have some super tiny acorns on their oak tree that are perfect for these little houses. It’s a battle between me and the squirrel on who gets them first. I plan on making several more of these teeny tiny needle felted terrariums because...

Needle Felted Doll

Oct 14, 2014

I’m in Beaumont for a bit getting mom and dad taken care of, they are nicknamed Gimp 1 and Gimp 2, at the moment. Dad has a nerve in his leg bothering him and mom has a knee that wont straighten. Between the two of them they are quite the pair. When I arrived last week my youngest niece, Isabella came down with a 24 hour tummy bug so while watching her for a few hours I made her a needle felted doll. She picked the wool colors and instructed me on how she wanted her doll to look. Collaborating with kids on a project is really fun. She loves her doll and I was ever so happy to make it for her. The tummy bug hit my niece Madelyn, last night. I’m really hoping...

Home For Christmas

Dec 27, 2013

This year, we seemed to celebrated Christmas a little bit at a time. We had a family get together with Terri and Laren at their loft on the 23rd then a small Christmas celebration at our house Christmas Eve.  Christmas morning, my nephew Brittain and I headed down to Beaumont to see family and celebrate Christmas with my parents. Alan and Ansley both had to work on the 26th so they couldn’t come along but when I return home they’ll have a small Christmas celebration with the gifts I bring back. We arrived at mom and dad’s house in the late afternoon and everyone was ready to exchange gifts. It’s always a flurry of excitement during Christmas at mom and dad’s. I’ve been very blessed to always have an amazing Christmas. Mom and Dad...

Send Your Kid to Art Camp

Jul 18, 2013

This week my nieces Madelyn and Bellie are attending “Art Camp”, at the Beaumont Art League. Each day is split into two sessions, Paper Mache and Drawing. Madelyn has always loved to color and paint and Bellie has loved drawing since she was old enough to hold a pencil. I guess you can say my family is certainly of the artistic side. Really we are, if we had to walk into a calculus or physics class we would all look at each other and the professor with the blankest set of eyes he/she has ever seen. But if you are talking painting, carving, crocheting, sewing, papercrafts, mixed media, assemblage, cross stitch, pastel drawing, sketching and so on… we could instruct our own college courses about any of these. This we know well. Mom can draw...

Snow for Christmas

Dec 21, 2011

I LOVE snow and hope we get some this winter… so far all we’ve had is rain… which we need terribly BUT snow sure would be awesome. We have a chance for flurries Friday and Saturday but most likely it will be short lived and turn to rain. We will see and you can bet I will be watching the forecast like a little kid. I have a true love for anything with snowflakes so when Maya Road came out with their adorable “Let It Snow” stamp set, I was thrilled. And their Blue 1″ Ink Pad is a gorgeous winter blue ink, so keep this in mind for any of your winter projects. If you would like to recreate this card cut a piece of white cardstock to 8″ x 11″ then fold...

Growing up with Santa

Dec 19, 2011

No matter how old Santa’s grandkids are they’re never too old to have a photo taken with Santa. This year, Laren (SIL) and Terri my oldest daughter went to Beaumont for Thanksgiving. This meant they were able to get their photo taken with Santa. It’s been several years since they’ve been able to make it down for the holidays and Mr. and Mrs. Claus were very happy to see them. This photo is of Santa and my sister Belinda’s kids… from left to right is my adorable nephew Brittain (poor boy he is the ONLY boy out of 6 grandkids), Isabella, Paw Paw Santa, Madelyn holding Grand-Dog Zeus and niece Amanda. Believe it or not this photo was the first one they took! Talk about a Christmas miracle. Even Zeusy was good and looked...

Took a quick trip…

Oct 12, 2011

I decided to go to Beaumont over the weekend for some antique and thrift store shopping as well as hit this wonderful flea market. Mom, dad and I were up and out early Friday, Saturday and Sunday and found some AWESOME items for me to use in upcoming class projects and workshops. I was so happy. I just give mom and dad a list of items I’m looking for and they are off and running. They scored some great finds for me this trip. Those two are keepers I tell ya. I took a few photos of some of the items we found. I have boxes filled with great vintage stuff. But some I’m gonna keep a secret as a girl can’t share all her surprises… can she? We found salt and pepper shakers,...

Friday Night Lights

Sep 12, 2011

Thursday afternoon, Alan and I headed down to Beaumont to surprise my nephew Brittain at his Homecoming game, Friday night. I love trying to surprise my niece’s and nephew although the older they get the harder it gets. But I did it this time and it was so fun. Seeing a surprised smiling face looking back at you while you hold a sign saying, I♥ #22, is the best feeling in the world. Warning: This post is heavy on Friday Night Lights photos. Brittain was part of the Homecoming Court and before the game they performed all the Homecoming festivities. Mom and Bellie waiting for the game to start. As you can see Bellie was ready to see some action. She had not warmed up to me quite yet. But once she did she...

A quick trip…

Jul 11, 2011

Ansley and I decided to take a quick trip down to Beaumont to see my parents and aunt since she had several days off last week. The plan was to surprise my mom and let’s just say, everyone kept the secret but me… even my 8 year old niece kept the secret. I called mom, Wednesday morning asking what she was doing just like I do every morning… and folded like a cheap tent. I told her well we are all packed and on our way down to see you. I swear nothing has changed… I get so excited I just can’t keep it in. So she was still surprised just not open the front door and see us surprised. So while we were in Beaumont we drove to Galveston Island. On the way...

I’m not sure who…

Jun 29, 2009

is having more fun running to the mailbox me or Madelyn. Here are the two cards she has sent me so far. I think they are so cute. Madelyn created these all by herself with scrapping supplies I gave her. Not too bad for a nearly six year old (she might be reading so if I say 5 well… you know how that goes) I love her butterflies… to me there is nothing cuter than kids art. I just love, love, love it. And then of course there are the hilarious topics of discussion. Today’s card made me laugh out loud. Buster is our dog and Zeus is her dog. Glad he was just sleeping and that she isn’t drinking hot chocolate considering it was over 100 in Beaumont a few days ago. The...

Back Home…

Jun 16, 2009

We had a great time in Beaumont visiting family. It was an action packed week to say the least. So this week will be full of family type blog posts for those family members that live so far away. A few sneak peeks of some Americana Workshop projects will be thrown in here and there too. I cannot believe we are already into week 3’s projects. But first I must say being 2 and 5 sure is fun when school’s out for the summer. Isabella and Madelyn did a lot of this each day… They each loved it when I would pull their feet to get them swinging. Not sure what it is about that but they always wanted me to start them swinging in this manner. I guess it is the thrill of...

Getting back in the groove…

Dec 30, 2008

Today I have about as much energy as a slug. Getting back into the groove after all the hustle and bustle of last minute holiday preparations always seems to be hard for me. We open presents at our house on Christmas Eve. I love baking cookies all morning and afternoon, cooking the dinner and watching Ansley go nuts counting down the hours until we open presents.  It is all so much fun and seeing happy faces on our girls is honestly the best gift ever. We had a wonderful visit with my mom and dad as well as my sister and her family. Alan, Ansley and I left to head down to Beaumont Christmas day. I love going home on Christmas day. Having the car filled with gifts and the excitement of seeing everyone...
