This holiday season I’m all about getting projects done in a day. This year, I can’t afford the take a week to complete a project, you all know I’m very capable of creating a mole hill kinda project into a mountain kinda project. So I thought and thought of how I could create a “Countdown to Christmas Calendar” without it taking me days to complete. This project should take 3  hours tops from start to finish including drying time for the paints. Altered Art Journal ATC 1

Aug 25, 2014

I was so super happy when I discovered (which is what happens when you clean areas of your studio, you discover things) I had a set of 6″ x 8″ pocket pages that fit inside my art journal. Since these pocket pages are a variety pack I have several different sized pockets that are perfect to add different sized art pieces into my journal. Yes, I’m happy. So once I discovered I had more options for my art journal I decided to create a small ATC type piece to put into one of the pocket pages. This card measures 2.75″ x 4″ so it is a bit off in measurements for a traditional ATC which is 2.5″ x 3.5″.  The base of the card is from a portion of the left over postcard I had from my first...

Altered Art Journal Page 1

Aug 22, 2014

Well I finally did it, I started an art journal. But let me tell ya it was not an easy start. I started out with one page, really didn’t like the bold colors because let’s face it, I’m not a bold color kinda gal, so I then thought I would tone it down a bit, then I really didn’t like it and had to step away from the table because I could feel some major frustration coming on. This is when I decided I would try to make some DIY lip gloss, so I did. It was super fast, easy and I really like it. DIY Lip Gloss Recipe All you need is 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1/4 teaspoon of Vaseline and 5 drops of Peppermint essential oil or the essential oil of your choice....

From The Archives ~ Paper Bag Easter Basket

Apr 8, 2014

This tutorial was originally posted on my blog, April 11, 2011. Paper Bag Easter Baskets are fun to create and with Easter just around the corner I thought I would re-share it. I love the simplicity of brown paper bags and think they make the perfect Easter baskets. I remember making them in grade school and being so excited to bring them home to show mom and dad. This basket can be left plain or altered using patterned paper, stamps, inks or paint. You can carefully use any of the many Fiskars border punches to create gorgeous edges along the top of your basket or you could take a hole punch and punch a hole just below where the scallop meets, thread a ribbon through the holes and create a pretty bow by tying...

Assemblage at Heart

Feb 4, 2014

I am always asked, “What are you going to do with this thing?” when I purchase odd items as I’m out and about junking. Honestly, sometimes I have not one clue but I’ve learned from experience if I see something that really intrigues me or something that I’m on the fence about I make the purchase. My dad has a saying, “You only regret the things you don’t buy.” and he’s right! Today, I thought I would show you what I did with lots of random items that helped me create this assemblage style doll. Now I know this might not be for everyone but I just love her and have her sitting on my shelf in my studio. As you can see she is made from lots of different flea market and non-flea...

Cupid’s Feathered Friend

Jan 21, 2014

Place a few drops of pink dye or Mist into a small cup of water, (the more dye the darker the color, less dye the lighter the color), mix together. Using a paint brush, apply dyed water onto white bird and let dry. You can speed up the drying process using a hair dryer set on the cool setting. Cover the body of the bird with a thin layer of instant decoupage, then apply Light Pink Glitter, tap off excess glitter and let dry. Cover the wings of the bird with instant decoupage and apply a thin layer of Iridescent Glitter and let dry. Apply instant decoupage to the beak of the bird then apply Fine Silver Glass Glitter, let dry. As you can see there is a lot of drying time but it should not take long...

Stylish and Fashionable ~ Card

Oct 23, 2013

I love to create mini collages on most all my projects. I get great satisfaction in combining multiple items to create a focal point on cards, tags etc. This card uses stamps from the Antiquated Collection Society Lady & Stylish and Fashionable stamp sets and patterned paper by Pink Paislee. I have a huge crush on their Cottage Farms Collection. I closely trimmed around the brooch and boot using my favorite of all times as in forever, Fiskars Coastal Craft Knife. If you have not tried this craft knife do yourself a favor and give it a try. This knife fits perfectly in my hand. To add a bit more dimension to the card, because I don’t think I can ever have enough dimension, I attached the brooch and boot to the card front...

Society Lady ~ Card

Oct 22, 2013

Today I’m showing you how to create a simple all occasion or notecard using my Antiquated Collection Society Lady stamp set. First using Coffee Archival ink stamp the image of the lady onto cardstock or patterned paper. I used a sheet from the Pink Paislee Cottage Farms line. Next, cut a piece of patterned paper slightly smaller than the front of the blank notecard.  Using a Fiskars scalloped circle punch, punch a scalloped circle into the patterned paper piece in the lower right corner as shown in the photos. Apply Platinum Stickles along the outer edge of the large patterned paper piece as well as along the edge of the punched scallop circle as shown in the photos and let dry. Trim the area around the stamped image so it is a bit larger...

Sweet Darling ~ Card

Oct 16, 2013

Seam Binding and Archival Ink make for a fabulous combination. I wanted a little something different for the title of my card so I decided to stamp the wording onto seam binding. This effect reminds me of the cute satin tags I’ve seen on baby items in antique shops. And the best thing is this is a beautiful and super simple way to create unique titles for cards, tags and layouts. I mean really could it get any simpler? We are talking, ink & stamp, that’s it! The patterned paper used on this card is by Pink Paislee. It’s their Cottage Farms Collection. What I love so much about this line is that it can look vintage or modern. I tell ya, that Rebecca is so awesomely talented and super sweet. I’m thrilled that...

Shabby Chic Birdhouse

Jul 5, 2013

The base of this altered birdhouse is created using Eileen Hull’s 3D Birdhouse die by Sizzix. After I assembled the birdhouse I covered it  with plaster. Once the plaster was dry I painted it with acrylic paint and accented the stenciled areas with ColorBox Chestnut Roan ink. I’m not kidding when I say I LOVE plaster and want to cover everything in it. It’s all I think about. The texture you can create with this medium is so amazing. The sides and top areas of the front and back of the birdhouse are accented with images from decorative napkins. The look is amazing and it’s so simple to do. Just cut out the image from your napkin, peel the white layers of the napkin off until all you have is the image layer, using your...

All Occasion Card

Apr 22, 2013

This all occasion card is one I created for Maya Road to display while their product kits are being sold on HSN, tomorrow. I thought I would share a few projects using some of the products in each kit to give you a little inspiration. Caroline created I think 20 projects for the show. Talk about a crazy fast crafter. The Fabric Tape Flower Mini Canvas, Fabric Tape Mini Wreath (sharing with you tomorrow) and the Smile Mini Canvas that I shared with you last week are all projects using products from these kits. Since I’m sure you are not going to want to miss out I posted Maya Road’s time slots below, which as I understand can change at any given second so don’t hold me to it but these should be close to accurate. Beth...
