Weekend Fun

Apr 7, 2014

Since Terri and Laren live right in the heart of Deep Ellum, Saturday Alan and I headed down to see them, grand dog Lola AND go to the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. Laren’s parents came down too so it was a super fun afternoon. First we walked over to Pepe’s & Mito’s to fill up on their awesome Mexican food. After we were all stuffed we started walking the streets. The festival had some great bands playing and we had a wonderful time walking, talking, laughing, dodging rain drops and seeing some amazing art. I was so busy looking at art that the only photo I took was of this band. I can’t even tell you who they were but they were good. All the photos of Lola were taken by Laren’s mom, Michelle. I was...

Unexpected Creativity

Apr 2, 2014

Since I’ve really jumped into this jewelry making I decided it was time to sort this 1 Pound Luxury Bead Soup Mix I purchased a while back from Margot Potter. I grabbed one of my old muffin tins, sat in my big comfy chair, put on my headphones and started sorting. You all know I love the thrill of the hunt and sorting this amazing bag of assorted beads was just like being on a little scavenger hunt. I had no idea what I would find but what I found was wonderful. As I started sorting I discovered I had enough of these green beads, which reminds me of the chiclets gum I chomped on when I was little, to create a jewelry ensemble. These green beads just so happen to be my daughter Terri’s favorite...

Leather & Rhinestones

Apr 1, 2014

I just added some new cuff style bracelets to my Etsy shop and I incorporated my love of vintage by adding vintage baubles to them. The combination of leather, hammered metal and the glam of vintage baubles is a favorite of mine. If you see something you love in my shop don’t wait to make your purchase because once the item or items are sold I will not create another piece exactly as the one you loved. I like to keep things unique and one of a kind. Also if you have teeny tiny wrists as did one of my customers, SIZE 5, I will certainly work with you as best I can, on making sure the bracelet you purchase fits. No matter the size I have no problem customizing a bracelet for you. And I...

A Simple Quote for a Monday

Mar 31, 2014

This is a great quote to start the week. Although the words are simple I find the actual act of waking up, doing my best and sleeping very hard to accomplish all in the same day. Some mornings it takes me hours and several cups of coffee to fully wake up due to a night of not sleeping and instead just tossing and turning. Some nights, I cannot turn my brain off and I will think of all the things I did that day that I can improve on (gotta love having a type A personality) or I will think of all the things I need to do the following day. I know I can’t be the only one that does this, so here’s to a week of waking up, doing our best and...

Handmade Leather Cuffs & Bracelets

Mar 25, 2014

I’ve been busy having loads of fun creating (and selling and shipping, thank you so much) handmade wrap bracelets and leather cuffs. Believe me, I do not need another media to create with since my studio is already about to burst, but really how much space can a few beads take up? HA HA HA that was the laugh heard around the world. Beads are so ADDICTIVE especially when you love sparkly like me, OMGoodness are there some amazing beads on the market. But this fun art form was just screaming to emerge so I had to do it. I’ve been wrapping, hammering, attaching, hole punching and listing like a crazy woman. I’ve even found ways to incorporate my love for vintage finds into some of my bracelets. The wrap bracelet shown in the...

Walk, Eat & Shop

Mar 5, 2014

To offset all the calories Alan and I have been consuming with just one meal a day Lola has been getting some nice walks when the sun decides to show its face. My gosh, Terri and Laren live near so many amazing places to eat.  Honestly, all we can eat is one meal and I can’t even finish my entire meal. The food in Deep Ellum is so incredible. For Lunch/Dinner Alan and I went to Allgood Cafe. He had their amazing Chicken Fried Steak and I had their OMGOSH lick your plate clean Truck Stop Hot Beef Sandwich. This sandwich was so darn incredible. Their mashed potatoes are absolutely to die for too. I could only eat half of my sandwich so Alan finished it off for me. I have no idea how...

Watching the Grand~Dog

Mar 4, 2014

While these two cuties enjoy a little vacation in California Alan and I are taking care of our grand~dog Lola. Terri and Laren live in the coolest loft in the coolest spot in Deep Ellum. So basically Alan and I cater to Lola’s each and every whim (treats, snuggles, eat, potty, and repeat) while we work during the day and then go walk to dinner. Thankfully, Terri and Laren come home tomorrow or Alan and I would need to purchase larger pants. Saturday, we walked to dinner and ate at Pepe’s & Mito’s. It was super awesome. We ate outside and obviously this was before the cold front hit with sleet, ice and snow. I ate their Chicken Chipotle Enchiladas and Alan ate their Rib Eye En Salsa Ranchera. We cleaned our plates. Sunday,...

Trash to Treasure Pendants

Jan 10, 2014

Goodness, I tell ya I see art in everything I see from junk mail to broken pieces of glass ready to be thrown away and nabbed at the very last second. I’m always thinking I can make something out of this… Which is why my studio is NEVER clean or uncluttered for more than a day! I’m constantly finding unique things I just cannot pass up. Just take a look at these pendants I created out of discarded glass. I LOVE that no two will ever be alike. I’m not sure about you but I LOVE one of a kind jewelry.   I posted a bracelet and some glass shard pendants in a previous blog post HERE and listed some in my Etsy Shop. I wish the sun would come out so I could get...

Mom’s Sugar Cookies

Dec 30, 2013

I got a hands on lesson in making mom’s sugar cookies while visiting my parents for Christmas. I did my best to document just how she makes her cookies so you too can enjoy the best sugar cookies ever. Let me know if you try the recipe and send me a photo of your cookies as I would love to see them. Once the dough has chilled for about an hour roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters and coat each cookie with sugar. Bake cookies at 375 degrees for 5-6 minutes. They should be a light golden brown on the bottom and slightly firm to the touch. When pressed with your fingertip, if a dip remains in the cookie cook for another minute. Once baked, place cookies on...

Hot Chocolate Recipe

Dec 10, 2013

During our iced in long weekend I made several pots of this hot chocolate. One batch for the family and a surprise batch for the neighborhood kids so they could warm up as they played outside. They had so much fun all weekend sledding down our driveway and ice skating in the street. And when you are between the ages of 6 & 10 years old there’s nothing better than having someone bring out a crock pot filled with Free Hot Chocolate, a Bag of Marshmallows and Dixie Cups then sitting everything on the porch telling you to drink all you want. Oh and I got a great laugh as I overheard one little boy telling his friend, “This is actually really good hot chocolate.” These kids really reaped the rewards of me terribly...

Winter Ice Storm

Dec 9, 2013

Friday, all of Frisco was covered in a blanket of ice and sleet. Thankfully, we were lucky enough to keep our electricity but lots of others were not. Since I love winter so much I had to step outside and snap some photos as the landscaping was so gorgeous enveloped in ice. There is something so calming to me being outside in the winter. I love breathing the crisp air, feeling the cold on my cheeks and my nose running from the chill in the air. Winter truly is my favorite season. During the day, I enjoyed sitting in my studio sipping hot chocolate while working and watching a little girl ice skate up and down our street with her friends running along her side. This is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone...

Cleaning Out The Studio

Dec 3, 2013

I know I have been bombarding you all with kits, art and other items in my Etsy shop but seriously, I have got to get this studio cleaned  out and under-control. I do not have room for any additional product not one bit more. It’s terrible and Santa will put me on the bad list if he sees this mess. Thank goodness I don’t have a little elf on the shelf to rat me out or I would be super worried. So since I’m cleaning out I am passing on some awesome product deals. I just listed a Scrapbook Embellishment Grab Box that comes to you filled with lots of assorted Maya Road products that’s perfect for any scrapbook or craft enthusiast and get this, SHIPPING is FREE on this item! Each filled to the brim...

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know I have a few added pounds from mom’s awesome turkey, stuffing and desserts. After dinner everyone was stuffed and all us adults needed naps except Madelyn and Bellie, they were running around like the energizer bunny and were glued to Ansley’s hip. Madelyn and Bellie LOVE Ansley. After 50 years, mom and dad finally have a table to sit the entire family. This has been one of mom’s wishes for years and I’m so glad it finally came true. Thanksgiving dinner was a wonderful way to break it in too.  From left to right are Mom, Laren (son-in-law), Terri (daughter), Amanda (niece), Steve (Amanda’s boyfriend), Dad (Santa), Brittain (nephew), Bellie (niece), Ansley (daughter), Me and Madelyn (niece). 3rd Annual Creative Retreat ~ Bellagio ~ Class 2

Nov 22, 2013

I shared a sneak peek of my “Textile Collage Sampler” a few days ago and today I’m sharing a sneak peek of my second class “Charmed Memento”. In this class I’ll show you how to take a simple wooden spool and turn it into a beautiful piece of wearable art. You’ll use pieces of linen burlap and scallop trim to cover the spool then add accents of iridescent rhinestone trim and vintage buttons. You will create a unique charm holder from copper wire that will attach to the base of the spool to display charms like a miniature handmade crocheted doily lovingly created by my mom, a vintage button, a glass bottle you fill with a bit of sand from Lake Como and a chandelier bead ready for you to add words to from a...

Banana Butter Bread Recipe

Nov 15, 2013

If you want an awesome Banana Bread recipe this is one you need to try. When I was down visiting mom and dad last week, mom had two loaves waiting on the counter so we could as she says, have something to nibble on, but it was really more like devour. Oh my goodness is this bread GOOD! Needless to say, by the time I left there were no longer two loaves. Which is the reason there is no beautiful photo of the loaves sitting on the counter, but at least I did think to photograph the recipe and share it with you. This way you can have the actual loaves sitting on your counter. This recipe is awesome, I...

Strands of Strength

Nov 12, 2013

Today, I have to tell you about my super sweet 10 year old niece, Madelyn. This is a selfie I took of us soon after I arrived in Beaumont, last Thursday. I wanted to capture a photo that portrayed how proud I am of her and how adorable she looks with her new hair cut. After learning about “Stands of Strength” in an advertisement through Altus Cancer Center Madelyn discovered there was going to be a local event held for those who wished to, could donate their hair. Well Madelyn being the super sweet, giving and thoughtful little girl started growing out her hair so she could donate it to “Strands of Strength“. “Established in 2011 by a cancer survivor, Strands of Strength (SOS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide wigs...
