New Handmade Holiday Ornaments

Nov 25, 2013

These are the latest handmade ornaments I created over the weekend. I love cold rainy days when I can just sit, listen to music and create. These cute characters are created from antique ornaments that were made in Japan. I created a mold of each one then filled them with plaster, let them dry and started painting. I think each one is adorable. And since they are all hand painted no two of the same character will ever be alike. Each ornament base is painted, has vintage sheet music from the early 1920’s and is sprinkled with glitter. Glitter and Christmas just go together and I feel makes everything so magical.  Santa’s Helper  Santa Claus  Christmas Caroler  Christmas Angel...

Super Simple Holiday Gift Tags

Nov 21, 2013

Here are two holiday gift tags that take just a few minutes to create and during the busy holiday season sometimes all you have are a few minutes. This time of year is filled with family gatherings, company parties, baking, shopping and decorating so if you find yourself in a crunch to create a quick gift tag here are two you can complete super fast. These tags are just ordinary 2.25″ x 4.75″ office tags and are covered with patterned paper scraps I’ve been saving for just this type of project. Apply adhesive to the front of your tag and cover with patterned paper. Cut a piece of patterned paper to 1.5″ x 2.25″, trim the top and bottom edges using scallop decorative scissors, attach to tag as shown. Using a distressing tool or...

Silent Night Ornament

Nov 19, 2013

I created this heart shaped shadow box from plaster several months ago. I had an idea for it then changed my mind and well it’s been sitting on my worktable since. Well, over the weekend an idea came to me and I’m happy to say, it worked perfectly. I love it when this happens. I decided to turn this lonely little plaster heart into a holiday ornament. The sides of the heart are covered in vintage sheet music from 1920 and the typed sentiment “Silent Night” is typed onto vintage note paper using my awesome antique Underwood typewriter. Then the entire pieces is covered in glitter. There is something so beautiful about the roughness of plaster being covered in glitter, it’s magical. When looking into this ornament I imagine a beautiful snowy winter night, where...

Jingle, Jingle, Jingle

Nov 6, 2013

The Jingles and Jingle Bell stamps from my new Antiquated Collection “Winter Girl” stamp set makes me happier than an elf on a sugar high. The jingle bell is the perfect size for holiday cards, tags, layouts, Project Life and your December Daily album. When stamped with Coffee Archival ink, reminds me of the vintage ones I see in antique shops. I used foam squares to attach mine to the card as I love dimensional cards and wanted them to resemble those found strung together and hung for the holidays. I can almost her them jingling. For DIY holiday projects please check out my etsy shop as I have several mini kits...

Stylish and Fashionable ~ Card

Oct 23, 2013

I love to create mini collages on most all my projects. I get great satisfaction in combining multiple items to create a focal point on cards, tags etc. This card uses stamps from the Antiquated Collection Society Lady & Stylish and Fashionable stamp sets and patterned paper by Pink Paislee. I have a huge crush on their Cottage Farms Collection. I closely trimmed around the brooch and boot using my favorite of all times as in forever, Fiskars Coastal Craft Knife. If you have not tried this craft knife do yourself a favor and give it a try. This knife fits perfectly in my hand. To add a bit more dimension to the card, because I don’t think I can ever have enough dimension, I attached the brooch and boot to the card front...

This is the second of three classes I will be teaching at Creative Cards and Crafts in Villa Park, IL ~ Oct.18th & 19th. Once all three houses are built and accented with Stickles and glitter you will group them on a decorative acrylic platter covered with faux snow and sisal trees to complete a miniature winter themed neighborhood. As a bonus I will show you how easy it is to bleach sisal trees at home if you wish for yours to be off white in color. And a vintage Christmas project would not be complete without including a few vintage mercury glass...
