Artist Trading Block ~ Night Light

Feb 25, 2014

Have you heard of Eileen Hull’s “Artist Trading Blocks“? Artist trading blocks allow you to create on a multi-dimensional canvas. I decided to turn my ATB into a night light. Before creating my ATB using a pencil I drew a heart shape on one end of the die cut ATB. Please Note: this end will open and close so you can place a battery tea light inside so don’t seal it shut. Using a craft knife cut the traced heart out of mat board. Now you are ready to assemble the ATB per the manufacturers instructions. Attach patterned paper to the ATB then ink the edges using Chestnut Roan ink. Using a craft knife, cut the patterned paper that is now covering the heart to create a heart shaped window. Attach a piece of lace...

Hearts of Red, White & Pink

Feb 5, 2014

I LOVE tissue paper and creating tissue paper garland is one of my favorite things to do. Tissue paper is cheap and the garland is simple to make. You can make your garland as long as you wish or just a small amount that is perfect to accent a card as I did in the photo above. The center of the tissue paper heart is a calendar card by Jenni Bowlin. I accented the center of the calendar using brown ink and crackle paint. Creating texture and dimension is something else I love doing. Pretty much all my projects have some kind of texture and dimension. This embossed heart is an accent on a tag. The heart is embossed, painted and glittered and surprisingly does not take much time at all to create. The doily...

Valentine’s Day Tag

Jan 14, 2014

I’m getting a jump start on creating some Valentine’s day tags and thought I would share this one with you. I think my little Handmade Kewpie Doll fairy looks adorable holding her “I Love You” vintage heart pick. Her wings are altered using white ink and Diamond Stickles. The red iridescent rhinestone trim is gorgeous against the red satin pleat trim. It’s hard to tell in this photo but gosh, I promise it’s so pretty. To top off the tag, I covered the chipboard center heart with silver ink and fine silver German glass glitter. Swoon! And you are in luck if you want to create a tag just like this as I have a limited supply of kits listed in my Etsy Shop. I even include easy to follow step by step instructions...

DIY Holiday Card

Dec 23, 2013

This card is created using an image Christy Tomlinson shared last week from one of her awesome paintings. Christy has such a beautiful artistic style, which I truly love. I decided to create a few Christmas cards with her beautiful image to share with friends and family. Some I left as is with just a little Diamond Stickles placed here and there and some I added a little dimension by cutting out the wreath, boots, manger and baby Jesus. First to make 3 of the dimensional cards I created, using a laser printer, print  4 – 3.5″ x 5″ images. If you use an inkjet printer and put any liquid medium onto it, the ink will run. This mean NO STICKLES and well you know how I feel about Stickles so I have to...

Here are two holiday gift tags that take just a few minutes to create and during the busy holiday season sometimes all you have are a few minutes. This time of year is filled with family gatherings, company parties, baking, shopping and decorating so if you find yourself in a crunch to create a quick gift tag here are two you can complete super fast. These tags are just ordinary 2.25″ x 4.75″ office tags and are covered with patterned paper scraps I’ve been saving for just this type of project. Apply adhesive to the front of your tag and cover with patterned paper. Cut a piece of patterned paper to 1.5″ x 2.25″, trim the top and bottom edges using scallop decorative scissors, attach to tag as shown. Using a distressing tool or...

Dear Santa ~ Card

Nov 7, 2013

I wasn’t kidding when I said I LOVED this jingle bell stamp. Here’s another card I made using the Antiquated Collection Winter Girl, Jingles and Jingle Bell stamps. I could cover every single thing I create this holiday season in these jingle bells I love them this much! And attached with foam squares makes them even cuter too!!! I’m heading out to do some junking with mom and dad this weekend and cannot wait to see what treasures we find. Walking around flea markets and antique shops is not only fun but so...

Jingle, Jingle, Jingle

Nov 6, 2013

The Jingles and Jingle Bell stamps from my new Antiquated Collection “Winter Girl” stamp set makes me happier than an elf on a sugar high. The jingle bell is the perfect size for holiday cards, tags, layouts, Project Life and your December Daily album. When stamped with Coffee Archival ink, reminds me of the vintage ones I see in antique shops. I used foam squares to attach mine to the card as I love dimensional cards and wanted them to resemble those found strung together and hung for the holidays. I can almost her them jingling. For DIY holiday projects please check out my etsy shop as I have several mini kits...

CHA-S 2013 ~ Bird Cage Card

Aug 29, 2013

Here is another card I created for Ranger using a few of the new Stickles released at CHA-S. It looks like this week on my blog it’s all about birds. I certainly didn’t intend it to be but it sure did happen. This all occasion card is created using the Tim Holtz Sizzix ~ Caged Bird die. I accented the cage and birds edges using Mercury Glass Stickles. The Petaloo Color Me flowers are painted with Perfect Pearls Powders ~ Confections Kit then the edge of each petal is accented with Ice Blue and Pink Taffeta Stickles. I really wish you could see how pretty these flowers look in person. The shimmer from the Perfect Pearls and the sparkle from the Stickles really makes the flowers shine. To finish the card I placed several vintage leaves under the flowers,...

CHA-S 2013 ~ Dress Form Card

Aug 20, 2013

This is a card I created for Ranger using the new Stickles they debuted at CHA-S. Oh my goodness are you going to LOVE the new colors. They are awesome and I have a few new favorites to add to my collection/addiction, Mercury Glass, Champagne and Pink Taffeta are my favorites from CHA-S.   In this close up you can really see how pretty the Pink Taffeta Stickles looks accenting the design on the wings. It is the most beautiful shade of vintage pink. The dress form and bow are accented using Champagne Stickles. This new color looks just like antiqued gold. It’s gorgeous. Tip: To make the Stickles pop even more on the edge of the dress I first inked the edges using Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Then I applied the Stickles.  I used...

Home for Christmas

Aug 14, 2013

This is the second of three classes I will be teaching at Creative Cards and Crafts in Villa Park, IL ~ Oct.18th & 19th. In this Home for Christmas class I will show you how to create three old fashioned Putz style houses using patterned papers from the new Graphic45 12 Days of Christmas line. Once all three houses are built and accented with Stickles and glitter you will group them on a decorative acrylic platter covered with faux snow and sisal trees to complete a miniature winter themed neighborhood. As a bonus I will show you how easy it is to bleach sisal trees at home if you wish for yours to be off white in color. And a vintage Christmas project would not be complete without including a few vintage mercury glass...

Stickles

Jun 5, 2013

Most of you should know by now that I have a serious LOVE for Stickles, especially Diamond and Platinum! When teaching these two are a given for items needed in class. I use Stickles on pretty much everything I create and I have a saying about them too, “Stickles is to Crafters what Botox is to Plastic Surgeons. You can always use a little somewhere”. If you are a crafter that does not like loose glitter Stickles is a product for you. It’s easy to use and there is zero mess. So today, I’m going to show you how I use a little or a lot on my projects. Diamond Stickles is a great way to give a simple flower a little pop. All you need to do is apply a small amount onto...

Textile Mini Album

Apr 24, 2013

This mini album is going to be a work in progress piece for quite some time. Each inside page will be it’s own unique piece of art. I don’t have a plan or even one idea on how to complete each page, I’m just going to pick it up and stitch off and on and see how it comes together. Sometimes it’s fun to create without ever having a plan. The album I’m using is a Maya Road Linen 4″ x 6″ Art Journaling Album that I accented with a Maya Road Linen Heart piece and a die cut doily from natural muslin using the Eileen Hull Sizzix Doily, Lace Medallion die. Before attaching the linen heart and natural muslin doily I first attached seam binding so I can keep the album closed with...

All Occasion Card

Apr 22, 2013

This all occasion card is one I created for Maya Road to display while their product kits are being sold on HSN, tomorrow. I thought I would share a few projects using some of the products in each kit to give you a little inspiration. Caroline created I think 20 projects for the show. Talk about a crazy fast crafter. The Fabric Tape Flower Mini Canvas, Fabric Tape Mini Wreath (sharing with you tomorrow) and the Smile Mini Canvas that I shared with you last week are all projects using products from these kits. Since I’m sure you are not going to want to miss out I posted Maya Road’s time slots below, which as I understand can change at any given second so don’t hold me to it but these should be close to accurate. Beth...

Jenni Bowlin Studio ~ Thinking of U Card

Apr 15, 2013

Here is card 3 of 4. I always find it fun to surprise someone with a “Thinking of U” card. It’s such a simple to way to brighten someone’s day. And here’s a little tip for you… You can alter the Maya Road Afternoon Tea flower using Maya Mists, Inks and Distress Stains. This way you can color coordinate the flower with any project you are creating. Super fun and super easy. The Maya Road Wooden Buttons are another fun embellishment to alter. I left mine raw for this card but you can ink, mist, paint, glitter and don’t forget about adding transfer decals on them… And this is the list of all the products I used to create this card. Girls & Boys…

Sep 3, 2012

Oh how I love these little girls and boys in my Antiquated Collection “Sweet Little Girls” and “Knick-Knack Paddywack” stamp sets. Kristii Lockart created these adorable cards and framed art piece you see below. I love how Kristii colors in the stamped images using Copic Markers. Here color combinations are awesome and I think Kristii is super talented. Just look for yourself. This framed art piece Kristii created will look absolutely adorable displayed in any little girls room. I think it would also be great given as a gift at a baby shower. I hope you all are having a wonderful Labor Day weekend spent  with family and friends. I’m off to do a bit of hand stitching....

Blast from the Past 3

Aug 7, 2012

This is the mini album that started it all… I wanted to create something special for my oldest daughter Terri, who was getting ready to celebrate her 17th birthday. I had seen lots of mini albums in the gallery at Two Peas In A Bucket and decided Terri’s upcoming birthday was just the push I needed to jump into the world of creating mini albums. At first I was scared to death because I had no clue what in the world I was doing or even how to begin. I went to a scrapbook store which was just down the street and started looking at all the products. Mind you, this was a very strange world to me. I was still learning what Rub ons and brads were and never mind the overwhelming feeling...

Blast from the Past 2

Aug 3, 2012

Here is a layout I did in 2005 documenting Ansley going to her first “Daddy Daughter Dance.” This layout actually got picked up for publication and can be found in the JoAnn ScrapEssentials Idea Book Vol. 2. If you have this idea book this layout is featured on page 51. You can see I still love to use glossy accents and iridescent glitter. That is what I used to accent the journaling strips. Still love the journaling strip look. I still accent the edges of my paper with brown ink. Still love to use ribbon, buttons and rhinestones. Don’t use brads all that much anymore. Still love to create my own embellishments. Love using silk flowers but now would distress them with ink or paint and cover them in crystal coarse glitter. I created...
