Ranger Designer Challenge 2015

Jan 16, 2015

It’s always so exciting to be invited to participate in the Ranger Designer Challenge. Basically how it works is Ranger picks a product line to feature, sends the designers a box of the products and you create a project using these products. This year the challenge was a canvas using Dina Wakley’s Media paints, stencils and stamps. Talk about a fun challenge. I also used some Tim Holtz Distress Stickles Dry Glitter Rocky Candy and of course Diamond Stickles. I have fallen in love with Dina’s Media paints. They come in a tube with a flip top and are heavy body acrylics that spread like butter! I already have her new colors Glitz, Sterling and Penny on my list of “Must Have Now” as well as Dina’s super cool new Media Fine Tip Applicator. These...

Countdown to Christmas Calendar

Nov 24, 2014

This holiday season I’m all about getting projects done in a day. This year, I can’t afford the take a week to complete a project, you all know I’m very capable of creating a mole hill kinda project into a mountain kinda project. So I thought and thought of how I could create a “Countdown to Christmas Calendar” without it taking me days to complete. I love counting down to Christmas just as much as a kid and thought I would share with you what and how I made mine. This project should take 3  hours tops from start to finish including drying time for the paints. Products Used: Maya Road Countdown Shadowbox, Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber Juniper & Metallic Gold, Coffee Archival Ink, Glue Stick, My Mind’s Eye ~ Joyous 6” x 6”...

Altered Art Journal Tag 1

Aug 29, 2014

When you find your arty style art flows like a leaf floating downstream but gosh when you try to force it, it’s all upstream and darn near impossible to create something you love. I’m so happy with the style I’ve finally discovered as it has taken me a long time. But in the end all the trial and error paid off. This art journal tag measures 4″ x 8.5″ and is covered in layers and layers of paint. I still cannot get over that I’m using paint and getting my hands messy. On my Art Journal Page 2 blog post I shared with you a quick image transfer technique and today I’m going to share with you an image transfer technique that gives you a less distressed image transfer and a more defined image transfer. Image...

Altered Art Journal Page 2

Aug 28, 2014

Oh boy did I have fun creating this art journal page. I believe I finally discovered the art journaling style for me. I even got messy hands in the process. This my friends is something because I cannot stand to have messy hands. I began my page with a simple image transfer using two photos I took while in Bellagio several years ago teaching at Laura McCullough’s awesome A Kiss On The Chic Creative Art Retreat. Laura hosts some amazing art retreats and if you can you really should join her for at least one. She is an amazing host. If you want to do an image transfer onto your art journaling page which I highly recommend you do because it is so fun to see the image transfer like magic. You will need to...

Altered Art Journal ATC 1

Aug 25, 2014

I was so super happy when I discovered (which is what happens when you clean areas of your studio, you discover things) I had a set of 6″ x 8″ pocket pages that fit inside my art journal. Since these pocket pages are a variety pack I have several different sized pockets that are perfect to add different sized art pieces into my journal. Yes, I’m happy. So once I discovered I had more options for my art journal I decided to create a small ATC type piece to put into one of the pocket pages. This card measures 2.75″ x 4″ so it is a bit off in measurements for a traditional ATC which is 2.5″ x 3.5″.  The base of the card is from a portion of the left over postcard I had from my first...

All The Gals ~ Collage

Jun 19, 2014

Here is a small 4″ x 6″ collage I created using one of the gals stamps from Dina Wakley’s new All The Gals stamp set and her new Media paint. First, if you have not tried her paints you are really missing out. These paints spread like butter and are heavy enough to create peaks and brushstrokes in your art. They are AMAZING. To create this little art journal page I first covered the left side of the watercolor paper using pieces of a dress pattern and Multi Medium as my adhesive. Using Jet Black Archival Ink I stamped one of the All The Gals stamps onto the watercolor paper. Using watercolors, I painted the gals stamped image as well as all around the background of the stamped image. Using a stencil and Dina’s Media paints...

Scribbly Bird Silhouette

Jun 4, 2014

Here is a fun ATC to create. Cover an ATC with vintage sheet music using multi medium as your adhesive. Using Dylusions Ink Spray and a paint brush apply the ink spray over the sheet music blending several colors together. Ink one of Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Bird stamps using Jet Black Archival Ink and stamp image onto ATC.  Using black acrylic paint, paint over the entire stamped image to create a silhouette. Using Wendy Vecchi’s Dots & Stripes Borders stencil and green acrylic paint accent the edge of the ATC using the Stripes stencil. Create a hat out of an old book page and apply Dylusions Ink Spray onto the page. Dry the hat with a heat tool then outline the hat and edge of the ATC using black acrylic paint. Add a cut out word from...

Sing Your Own Song

Jun 3, 2014

I wasn’t kidding when I said I LOVED Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Birds stamp set. Here is another piece I made over the weekend. Using Jet Black Archival Ink I stamped the bird image onto a 6″ piece of watercolor paper, then filled it in with acrylic paints. I painted the entire background with teal acrylic paint. I used the Kaleidoscope stencil by Ronda Palazzari and some of Wendy Vecchi’s Crackle Texture Paste to add texture to the piece. Once the paste was dry and did it’s magic I inked it with Archival Inks and Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Using Multi Medium I attached some vintage sheet music and an image from a book. Next I covered the stenciled areas and the branch image with bits and pieces of a dress pattern. Once the multi  medium dried I...

Apr 14, 2014

I’m getting so excited about my return visit to Rocky Mountain Memories in Estes Park, CO. This is the sweetest most quaint store that sits in the heart of downtown Estes Park along the riverwalk. Rocky Mountain Memories is filled with great products and super fun people. Cheryl Grigsby, the owner is living my dream. Seriously, a scrapbook store in Estes Park, CO, pure heaven. Last year, when I taught there I got to stay in Rick and Cheryl’s amazing cabin. While there all I could think about was how much mom and dad would love staying at “Redemption Cabin“. So this year, I’m bringing Mr. & Mrs. Claus along for the ride. They are getting  a wonderful mini vacation in one of their all time favorite spots while I teach. Mom and Dad...

From The Archives ~ Paper Bag Easter Basket

Apr 8, 2014

This tutorial was originally posted on my blog, April 11, 2011. Paper Bag Easter Baskets are fun to create and with Easter just around the corner I thought I would re-share it. I love the simplicity of brown paper bags and think they make the perfect Easter baskets. I remember making them in grade school and being so excited to bring them home to show mom and dad. This basket can be left plain or altered using patterned paper, stamps, inks or paint. You can carefully use any of the many Fiskars border punches to create gorgeous edges along the top of your basket or you could take a hole punch and punch a hole just below where the scallop meets, thread a ribbon through the holes and create a pretty bow by tying...
