Bellie’s Here For A Visit

Jul 30, 2014

This past Saturday, Isabella (a.k.a. Bellie) my 7 year old niece came for her week of everyday fun. We have had a blast doing one paint project after the next. This girl LOVES to PAINT! She wants to paint over going to see a movie, getting a makeover at Sweet & Sassy, eating breakfast at IHOP etc. I suggest something fun to do for the day and all she says is can I just paint. So paint is what we have done all week.

My Little Pony

I asked her Sunday what she wanted to paint and she said a horse. At first I panicked because this auntie does not draw especially horses. So I found some coloring pages of My Little Pony online, printed some out, let her pick which one she wanted to paint then used the coloring page as my pattern. She was thrilled to get to paint a pony and I was relieved that I did not disappoint her.

Monday, she wanted to watercolor so I stamped some of Dina Wakley’s awesome scribbly birds onto watercolor paper using Jet Black Archival Ink and let Bellie paint until she was tired of painting birds. She decided to stop at 8. She loved using my watercolor pens so much that you can bet she will be going home with her own set.

Tuesday was field trip day. We rode the DART rail into Dallas and went to the Dallas World Aquarium. It was a perfect afternoon of fun that I will share photos of tomorrow.

Today, was another paint day. I drew a fox onto a canvas and let her paint as she wished. I cannot express to you how much Bellie loves painting. It is the first thing she wakes up thinking about and the last thing she talks about before bed. It makes me so happy to hear a child talk about something the love so much.

Tomorrow, I’m going to try really hard to see if I can get her interested in collage. I’m not sure I can convince her to try it but I’m going to give it my best attempt. I’m hoping since she’ll be using a paint brush to apply the multi medium she will go for it.

Here’s to a love of painting and all things arty!

Better add some bright color to the multi medium!
