Rocky Mountain Memories ~ Artist Flood Relief

Jun 20, 2014

Last September Colorado was really hit hard with unexpected flash floods.  Dams broke, roads were washed out, rivers took control, and lives were lost.  It’s just so devastating.  Complete towns were evacuated, lives lost, people unaccounted for, homes & businesses demolished. Rocky Mountain Memories is hosting a silent auction to help Crossroads Ministries. This non-profit organization has provided a total of 725 flood relief assists but their funds are depleting.  Any assistance would be appreciated. Up for auction are many great pieces from various artists. I’ve donated autographed copies of  all three of my books Delight In The Details, Delight In The Seasons and Delight In The Art of Collage, plus several other items.   This shabby chic birdhouse was shared on my blog in July of last year. If you want to read how I created it...

All The Gals ~ Collage

Jun 19, 2014

Here is a small 4″ x 6″ collage I created using one of the gals stamps from Dina Wakley’s new All The Gals stamp set and her new Media paint. First, if you have not tried her paints you are really missing out. These paints spread like butter and are heavy enough to create peaks and brushstrokes in your art. They are AMAZING. To create this little art journal page I first covered the left side of the watercolor paper using pieces of a dress pattern and Multi Medium as my adhesive. Using Jet Black Archival Ink I stamped one of the All The Gals stamps onto the watercolor paper. Using watercolors, I painted the gals stamped image as well as all around the background of the stamped image. Using a stencil and Dina’s Media paints...

All The Gals ~ Stamp Set

Jun 17, 2014

I finally got my hands on Dina Wakley’s “All The Gals” Media Stamp set and goodness I love them just as much as her “Scribbly Birds” stamp set. These gals have such expressive faces and are perfect to watercolor, which by the way is a new love I’ve recently discovered. My plan is to create mini collage pieces from each of these gals using vintage papers, stencils and inks. Once the collages are completed I’ll share some photos. Until then, if you don’t have this stamp set… go get...

These paper clay bird beads are a fun and unique way to create your own handmade summer necklace, bracelet or earrings. All you need to have on hand is Paper Clay, Acrylic Paint, Paint Brushes (Medium & Fine Tips), Multi Medium,  20 Gauge Wire, Jewelry Tools and a Stylus. Mold the paper clay into the size bird you need for your project. Mine range in sizes from 1″ to 1.75″. Theses measurements are from the tip of the beak to the tip of the tail. The width measures .5″ and a bit smaller. This measurement is from the top middle of the back to the bottom middle of the belly. Using a Stylus poke a vertical hole all the way through the bird from the belly to the top middle of it’s back. You...

Solitude Leather Bracelet

Jun 6, 2014

I made this bracelet the other night and love it so much I thought I would share a quick tutorial so you too can make one. Just a little note… the crystal and pearl beads are from old necklaces I’ve found in thrift shops or flea markets and the gold heart charm and red and gold glass bead are some mom and dad found. You can find similar items I’m sure but if you really want that vintage charm you need to dig around thrift shops and flea markets for items you can take apart. Cut a piece of 15m Suede leather cord that is double the length you wish your bracelet to be. Fold the cord in half, at the bent end about .5″ down from the bent area wrap tightly a piece of...

Here is a fun ATC to create. Cover an ATC with vintage sheet music using multi medium as your adhesive. Sing Your Own Song

Jun 3, 2014

I wasn’t kidding when I said I LOVED Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Birds stamp set. Here is another piece I made over the weekend. Using Jet Black Archival Ink I stamped the bird image onto a 6″ piece of watercolor paper, then filled it in with acrylic paints. I painted the entire background with teal acrylic paint. I used the Kaleidoscope stencil by Ronda Palazzari and some of Wendy Vecchi’s Crackle Texture Paste to add texture to the piece. Once the paste was dry and did it’s magic I inked it with Archival Inks and Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Using Multi Medium I attached some vintage sheet music and an image from a book. Next I covered the stenciled areas and the branch image with bits and pieces of a dress pattern. Once the multi  medium dried I...

Scribbly Bird Obsession

Jun 2, 2014

I have a huge obsession with Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Birds stamp set. I’ve collected glass birds since I was in the 2nd grade and have abandoned bird nests sitting in my studio window. So when I saw Dina’s stamps she got me instantly. My favorite way to use them at the moment is to simply stamp the bird images onto watercolor paper using Jet Black Archival Ink then simply color them in using Twinkling H2O’s and a Tim Holtz Water Brush. Super simple and no messy clean up. Here is what my finished collage of painted birds looks like. I really like how the brown, gold and teal color combination looks together. These are mini 2″ square pieces of watercolor paper that I stamped and painted. I think they look super cute and this size is...
