Hand Stitched Ornaments

Star Ornaments

I love to make handmade items during the holidays. I believe it all stems from my childhood and making holiday items with my mom. For as long as I can remember she and I have made something for the holidays and these fabric ornaments are fun to create especially if you like instant gratification. I did the stitching one night and then stitched the back on the next.

The images are Maya Road stamps that I stamped onto natural muslin using Archival ink. I stitched a simple outline stitch all along the images, then using a pencil, lightly wrote the name onto each ornament and hand stitched over it. Inside the butterfly I added some Diamond Stickles for a little sparkle.

Once I had the images stitched I decided to use a Maya Road Linen Burlap Star for the backing. Using the star as my guide, I cut the muslin using pinking shears into the shape of the linen star. I used a simple back stitch  to attach the muslin and linen burlap pieces together. The hanger is a piece of Maya Road Twine Cording that is stitched to the top of each star ornament.

Star Ornaments Close Up

This project is something simple and sweet that will look adorable adorning any family tree and what child does not like an ornament with their name on it?
