Three Simple Words ~ Charm Tutorial

Nov 19, 2012

This charm requires several steps with a 12 hour waiting time in between the two resin pours and 48 hours before it achieves a hard cure. Once the hard cure has been achieved it’s ready to wear. Below is a little info on this resin that I copied from the EnviroTex webiste.

Professional results are easy to achieve with EnviroTex® Jewelry Resin!  This product adds depth and crystal clear clarity like no other.  It visually enhances the surface on which it is applied, resulting in brighter, deeper and more intense colors.  EnviroTex® Jewelry Resin has amazing bubble release.  It is easy and fun to use and has a pleasing citrus scent!  Formulated for high resistance to light exposure and UV rays from the sun.  When cured, the resin coating is extremely durable, waterproof, heat & chemical resistant.  EnviroTex® Jewelry Resin cures to a soft cure in 12 hours, medium cure in 24 hours and hard cure in 48 hours.

All this being said… now let’s get to the tutorial.

Supplies Needed: Heart Shaped Bezel, Vintage Sheet Music, Nunn Design Nature Transfer Sheet, Metallic Gold Gelly Roll Pen, Silver Glass Glitter, Diamond Stickles, Word Strips, Mini Cameo Embellishment, EnviroTex Jewelry Resin, Nunn Design Sealant

Tools Needed: Mixing Cup, Popsicle Stick Stirrer, Pin, Heat Tool, Paint Brush

Instructions:

  • Cut a heart out of vintage sheet music to fit into the center of the heart shaped bezel. I used some of my resin sheet music paper. Remember, I never have any resin waste since I always coat any vintage papers I have with the little unused resin.
  • Following the instructions on the transfer Nature sheet, attach a bird transfer image onto the vintage sheet music heart.
  • Place the heart inside the bezel, using a paint brush apply sealant over the entire paper heart, then place the mini cameo in place and let dry. You will want to apply several coats of sealant letting each coat dry completely before applying the next.
  • Using Diamond Stickles, apply a thin line of Stickles around the inside edge of the heart, pour silver glass glitter on top of the wet Stickles, gently pat the glitter into place, tap off excess. If needed gently push any glitter into place so you have a nice smooth edge of glitter. I used my tweezers to do this.
  • Mix the EnviroTex Resin per the manufacturers instructions. I mixed 1/2 TPS Resin and 1/2 TSP Hardner. Once most of the bubbles have popped pour the resin into the heart bezel so the bezel is half filled. If you have a few stubborn bubbles carefully use your heat tool to help bring the bubbles to the top to pop. Place the bezel on a flat surface and let cure for 12 hours. This will give you a nice soft cure.
  • Using a gold metallic Gelly Roll pen write “Love” along the side then apply small dots around the inside edge of the heart, leaving the area underneath the word love without dots.
  • Apply a small dot of Diamond Stickles on top of each dot, let dry.
  • Print your word strips on a laser printer then apply several coats of sealant, just as you did with the vintage sheet music. On the third coating I applied the word strips in place on the heart bezel and let dry. To create my word strips I used the Font Book Antiqua and the Font Size 8
  • Once the word strips were completely dry I mixed another batch of resin and applied another nice layer of resin to the top of the bezels edge. Again, if you have a few stubborn bubbles carefully use your heat tool to help bring the bubbles to the top to pop.
  • Set the heart bezel on a flat surface and let cure for a good 48 hours before wearing.

Here is a wonderful tutorial by Nunn Design showing you how to create a beautiful bracelet using Gel Du Soleil resin. I just got this resin from Judi Kins and will be creating a charm using it soon. I’ll share the finished charm once it’s completed. Nunn Design has heart pendants too… I just didn’t have one on hand when inspiration hit. You can check out their heart pendants HERE.

Happy Creating.
