Vintage Photo Decor

Aug 16, 2011

Hi Everyone!

Rebecca Cross here from Pink Paislee with a fun and super easy home decor idea for the upcoming halloween season.  Most of us have vintage photos tucked away in a keepsake box or maybe even in an album but I seriously doubt you would want to “embellish them” or cut them up in order to use them for decoration purposes right?  And that is where the internet comes in handy…or maybe even your local flea market or antique store because it is a lot easier to have fun with an old time family photos if they don’t belong to anyone in your family!

I recently picked up a free standing wrought iron photo display holder and I have plans to feature vintage photos in it to create a Halloween Centerpiece.  I want to create about a dozen of these and to be honest it doesn’t make me feel bad at all to stamp on them, cut them up or glitter them!

To create this 3.5″ x 5.5″ postcard I used products from the new Pink Paislee Phantom Collection.  I used just 1 sheet of paper, the clear stamps and some glitter glue.  I also grabbed my pinking shear scissors to trim the paper mat afterwards.

As you can see this photo started out innocent enough.….a very nicely dressed woman standing by a pennant from 1909; the grungey background and aged photo appearance instantly makes it spooky and eerie.

To decorate this photo here is what I did:

  • Trimmed photo to 3 x 5
  • Trimmed photo mat to 3.5″ x 5.5″
  • Adhere photo over photo mat and use decorate edge scissors to cut around all 4 sides
  • Stamp Beware and Chandelier image over photo
  • Cut a triangle hat out of paper scraps and add orange glitter glue for sparkle
  • Add to wrought iron holder and enjoy!
I only have 11 photos left to alter and then I know this will be a fun addition to my halloween decor…especially if I drape it with some faux spiderwebbing!
Try it out for yourself and have fun adding glam and glimmer to these complete strangers.
