Love you tag…

May14

Tags are a simple way to use up your scraps. I have a terrible time throwing any size scrap piece of paper away especially if it is a vintage piece as I always think it will be perfect to accent a tag, card or embellishment. I created this “Love you” tag using scraps from vintage sheet music, an old book page and even the area from a book pages blank margin… which is perfect for typing out my sentiment and keeping with the vintage feel.

Love you...

Supplies Needed:
Office Tag (approx. 2 3/8″ x 4.75″)
Vintage Sheet Music
Faux Vintage Millinery Flower
Maya Road Crushed Velvet Trim (Cream)
Brown & White Baker’s Twine
Dresden Trim
ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink (Creamy Brown)

Tools Needed:
Paper Trimmer
Scissors
Sewing Machine (optional)
Tim Holtz Paper Distresser (Seriously is the best on the market)
Adhesive

Instructions:

  • Using a sewing machine, stitch a straight stitch all around the  inner edge of the tag, distress the edges of the tag using a Paper Distresser, ink the edges using ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink (Creamy Brown)
  • Cut vintage sheet music to approximately 1.5″ x 3 5/8″, carefully distress edges (I used my fingernail as my paper was very fragile) attach to Office Tag, machine stitch a zig zag stitch to the upper left and lower right corners
  • Type or Print a sentiment onto paper, attach to Faux Vintage Millinery Flower stem, attach to center of tag
  • Cut Crushed Velvet Trim to approximately 2″ and snip the ends creating a “v”, attach over Faux Vintage Flower stem
  • Create a bow using Brown & White Baker’s Twine attach to center of Crushed Velvet Trim

Here are examples of the tag with and without the zig zag stitching. Just wanted to share with you the difference those few little stitches make to the project.

This is beautiful – I have some sheet music that my son wrote when he took music theory – this would be a beautiful way to use it as art.
