A little Valentine Tutorial…

January19

I guess you can tell I LOVE Maya Road. Seriously love everything Deb and Caroline make and the great thing about their products are they mix and match perfectly. I always look at their coaster albums and think they would make wonderful fabric patterns. Well needing a break from book projects yesterday I decided to use the bird pattern to create my own fabric embellishment. Talk about super EASY to make. Seriously easy. This is the first piece of fabric anything I have ever sewn. Yes I got the sewing machine to sew on paper. Anyway, I thought I would create a little tutorial thinking you might like to give this a try.

Supplies Needed:

Instructions:

  • Trace page from 2-Ring Heart Binder onto red felt, cut out using decorative scissors (pinking)
  • Adhere ledger paper to top of 2-Ring Heart Binder page, sand edges
  • Stamp top of ledger paper using Journey East Wildflower Stamp Set inked with Creamy Brown Fluid Chalk Ink, outline edge of heart using a black pen
  • Using a paint brush, apply Collage Pauge Instant Decoupage onto Sheer Heart Scallop page, while still wet sprinkle coarse glitter on top of album page, tap off excess, let dry
  • Stamp one Bingo Card image and one Love Ticket image using Embossing Ink and Tim Holtz Distress Powder (following instructions on bottle), cut out
  • Attach glittered Sheer Heart Scallop page to top center of stamped ledger 2-Ring Heart Binder page
  • Attach stamped Bingo Card and Love Ticket embellishments on top of glittered Sheer Heart Scallop page

  • Draw a wing onto fabric, fold fabric over, cut out (you should have 2 wings) place batting in between wings, sew together
  • Using Fabri Tac glue bird body and wings to red felt, cut out using decorative scissors (pinking), sew button onto wing
  • Using Fabri Tac attach wing to body and body to top of small Heart Coaster
  • Create a small bow using white seam binding, attach to bird, accent bow with Beaded Felt Blossom and Jewel, Leaf and Vintage Pins

Ticket to Love

  • Create bow using red & white Baker’s Twine, attach to birds beak
  • Cut Scallop Ric Rac (Royal Red and Creamy Beige) to aprox. 12″ attach top of felt using Fabri Tac
  • Using Fabri Tac attach altered 2-Ring Heart Binder page to red felt

I hope you give this pattern technique a try. It is really fun.
Enjoy!
